Episode 218- Her career was sometimes useless in this world
Eugene's eyes were dark and she was silent for at least a minute. She felt grateful yet apologetic to Con who was still by her side even though they were about to face one of the most perilous situations they had encountered in the previous six and a half years.
"I'm sorry Comrade Con." Eugene's eyes lowered as she apologized without turning to him.
"..." Con was silent for a good minute before replying, "It's nothing, Comrade Eugeneia." Naturally, he understood her meaning. There was a high chance their lives were about to end. Well, there was a high chance his life was about to end right here in this forest. In fact, it was almost impossible for them to leave this place alive if they did not surrender. And will they surrender? Well, the answer was no.
Eugene was first to break the depressing silence, "And the guild?" She asked in a mutter-like tone.
"Making noise at all exits. Alerted the military in the area."
Eugene nodded. 'Which means we have to hold it out until reinforcement comes.'
Con looked at Eugene with a meaningful gaze before deciding to break it out to her, "Don't place your hopes in the military."
"Huh?" Eugene turned to Con quickly, a questionable look appearing on her face.
"This is the outskirts of Xenperia." He said, hoping that Eugene would understand him however she still retained a clueless look on her face.
He sighed, "It means that there's less military control here."
Eugene's eyes narrowed down as she stared at Ron straight into his eyes, "Do you mean there's little chance they will come. Or… do you mean they are going to be useless." She would rather it be the latter because at least they would've tried.
In response to Eugene's question, Con shook his head to indicate that he did not know.
"...." Well, then that's flipping good news. Being stuck with enemies surrounding them on all sides and with little to no help. This was nothing but a suicide mission!
"What do you suggest we do?" She turned to Con and asked. She then remembered something and added, "The teleportation portal is destroyed."
When she reassured Crown Prince Nexiel, Elderly Gres, and Pelle that she had a plan, truth to be told, she was lying. She didn't have a plan. The only plan she had was to distract the enemies. As for the plans afterward… it was nonexistent. Maybe rely on the help of the military? But now… well, she might as well think that there will be no help whatsoever.
But that didn't mean she wanted to die! From Euria's letter, she knew that death wouldn't do anyone any good and her death is the equivalent of everyone in her family dying. This means, dying is not a choice at all!
Con turned to Eugene and stared at her with a meaningful gaze, "Become Miss Euria." There was a seriousness in his voice when he said that.
"..." Eugene stared at Con blankly. She knew that. That was her plan to distract people from the real Euria anyway. But what about after that? What was she going to do after that?
"... And?" She continued to question Con.
"Be caught." He said plainly.
"..." I'm not sure about that brother. But okay?
The look on Eugene's face could only be described using one word and that was utter speechlessness. Con, ignored the look on her face and explained, "It is more safe for you to be caught than for you to be on the run."
Con's words made sense and it was also the truth. According to the conversation she overheard from the bandits, Euria is to be safely escorted to Elder. She also heard that Euria went on outrage and killed many people when news about Moniqua being hurt spread around. When that happened, people tried to stop Euria, however, they never harmed her. This means they will never hurt her if she disguises herself as Euria.
"If I'm caught they will have to go with the normal route. Which is getting out of United West Liasel via Lelips." Hit or miss, even if they can't escape now, they will have two weeks to escape if they get caught.
"Ron and our reinforcements will be there." This means, getting caught was an okay plan. After all, they would just be bringing themselves to Ron who would save them.
Con nodded.
"Before that… We have to be desperate. Very, desperate." The moment Eugene finished speaking, her eyes turned bright red just like Euria's. At this moment, no one could tell the differences between Euria and herself except for the difference in height or personality. But these things were small things, and when they see her face, they will have no choice but to accept that she was Euria. Not unless there was someone really smart in the crew of course.
Eugene and Con ran as fast as they could, as desperate as they could towards an exit that was as far as possible from the exit that the Crown Prince and the group took. Along the way, they 'accidentally' encountered some bandits who pursued after them however failed to catch them; mimicking a true act of desperation to escape.
Well, besides acting, Eugene really hoped that she could escape with Con. She hoped for the 2 percent chance but didn't count on it or anything like that… hmph.
The bandits chose the wrong people to run after because no matter how many people came in their pursuit, they were never able to catch up to Eugene and Con. Eugene and Con were able to accomplish this because running was the foundation of their careers. In fact, running was basically their main job!
But even though they were masters at running, Eugene and Con already concluded how long and how far they were going to run for. This was because they did not want to overwork their bodies to conserve their strength. So once Eugene and Con reached that limit, they purposely began to slow down. Slow enough for people to be able to surround them an hour later.
Eugene and Con came to a complete stop. Eugene did not think of their plan after they were caught so her heart dropped when she saw how terrible Con's acting was. Con, who should be standing in front of her to protect her, was standing beside her while observing the enemies left and right. This left Eugene with no choice but to step back and grab Con's arms, to make it seem as if he was protecting her from behind.
Eugene hoped for the best and sighed in relief when everyone still believed that she was the real Euria. Well, most believed that she was the real Euria. The group who didn't believe that she was the real Euria were the group who escorted Euria from the start. Eugene noticed this and adjusted her hood to 'accidentally' reveal her red eyes for a split second before hiding under the hood again. This was to confirm to the bandits that she was indeed the real Euria, and not anybody else.
The bandit who was about to raise a question stopped as all of his suspicions were erased with Eugene's one move. He knew that Euria was a powerful person, someone who has killed before. But that didn't matter anymore because Euria was now acting her age and was being protected by a male figure.
"Give up, or we will kill your companion." One of the bandits threatened. His eyes glared heavily at Con. Though he said the condition, he was going to kill Con anyway because he had killed some of his comrades.
"The moment you kill him, I will kill myself. See if you dare!" Eugene said through her teeth gritted. One other thing the bandits wouldn't be able to tell apart unless they were Aernest, was Euria's and Eugene's voices. She was an actress. And though her career was sometimes useless in this world, they were sometimes useful, especially at times like this. At this moment, her voice was 99% identical to Euria, because she was mimicking Euria's voice. This 99 percent sent goosebumps down Con's spine and his 'acting' almost cracked.
Eugene didn't know, but at this moment, a man was watching her every move. This man was Darius who just arrived with the controlled children.
The bandits looked at each other following Eugene's words. They wanted to kill Con but they were afraid that Euria would truly harm herself. There were so many emotions going through the bandits however they had no choice but to grit their teeth and surrender.
"Alright. Please, just come with us." There was sincerity in one of the bandits' voices, making Eugene believe that they truly won't kill Con. This relieved her a lot but she still didn't trust the bandits' words.
"He will stay with me." She demanded. She knows she was safe, but also knew that mishap might happen to Con if she left him alone. She didn't want to risk that at all hence she reasoned with them.
"That's not-"
