Chapter 38: Finding sunlight.
Chike first noticed his Best friend's uneasy posture before he saw that Kara didn't alight from the jet.
He slammed the car door shut and didn't bother locking it. He could feel the object safely tucked away in his pant and his shirt concealed it perfectly. The gun wasn't his style, it was too small and it was a Glock 45. Chike always liked bigger guns, The type that can't be concealed in his pant. It was probably because he had a thing for transparency.
Chike moved closer to his friend who seemed to be rooted to the spot.
"Jason?"
Jason cleared his throat like something was stuck there. It didn't do anything to levitate the squeezing pressure he felt on his chest.
"Jason?" Chike called again. He was beside him in less than a minute.
"She is not here. Why is she not coming out?" Jason asked Chike like he had all the answers. He was trying not to panic.
"Kara is smart... too smart. The mini super girl is probably hiding in there... somewhere. We should enter the Jet and look for her"
Jason was reluctant.
"And if she is not there?" He asked Chike again like he had all the answers.
"She is. Kara Kent a.k.a supergirl can fly and I seriously can't put anything pass your kid but unless she suddenly developed super strength and flight, then she is in the Jet. Naya watched her enter, remember?"
After Jason heard what Chike had to say. He took off in a run towards the Jet at the center of the private airfield. Chike pulled out his glock and followed right behind. He might have given the whole 'she is alright' speech to Jason but in truth, he wouldn't put anything pass Kane.
He has had the misfortune of meeting Kane when he blackmailed him into granting a divorce to Naya. The son of a tooth was as rotten as they come. And he wasn't about to leave his goddaughter and friend unprotected.
Jason was taller and took off running before Chike, so it was normal he arrived first. He saw Jason's eyes go to the gun he was holding.
"It's a gun" Chike murmured. He has always tried his best to keep his friendship with Jason separate from his former life.
He was the friend that constantly embarrassed Jason and wear ridiculous outfit he felt comfortable with. And share a nice bottle of scotch and talk about women with but he has never showed Jason this side of him. The dangerous killer side and he had no idea how Jason would feel about it. Pointing out it was a gun was a good opening line.
"No kidding...it a Glock 45. Elixir owns one" Jason appeared unaffected and Chike had no idea what to make of it.
"Oh!" Was the only thing that came out of Chike's mouth.
"If Kane is on this Jet, shoot to kill and if you can't do that, give the gun to me right this second" Jason whispered to him.
Chike knew he was a cold blooded killer, a trained one that spend years killing for his country but Jason was not. He was a CEO and he had no business with guns. Killing a man in cold blood will drive him insane.
"If Kane is on this Jet, he won't get off alive. I have got this Jason. Let's find your daughter" Chike tightened the grip on the gun. It was loaded and he did not want to take the chance that Jason might try to take it from him.
Jason watched him for a second or two before he went inside the Jet.
Chike hurriedly followed him behind. The Jet was empty except from the little beeping sound coming from the pilot cabin.
"Kara!" He yelled for her.
Jason heard a clicking sound as the pilot door opened. The pilot stepped out to find a gun pointed at his head. He raised his hands up in surrender, dropping his navy blue cap.
"I-it's me. It's Conrad" The pilot stutter a little bit.
"Hi, Conrad. Where is Kara?" Chike asked with a slight smile. He made no attempt to lower the gun.
"She was s-sitting here when I took off, s-sir"
Jason watched with both of them anxiousness and fascination.
"How about you go back to the pilot's cabin and remain there til I clear the whole Jet and find my goddaughter... okay Conrad? Buddy it is for you own safety" Chike stared at the frightened man with a fake concerned face.
"Y-yes sir" The man flew into the pilot's cabin and locked himself inside.
Jason made a mental note not to cross Chike. He would make a deadly enemy.
"Kara!" He yelled again.
"Jason, check the restroom" Chike suggested to the antsy father.
Jason walked towards the restroom and pushed the door open "She is not here"
Chike then noticed the displaced rug near the bar. If he was right, there should be a crawl hole by the side of Jet's bar. A perfect hiding spot for a scared six year old.
He placed the safety pin on the gun and concealed his weapon. He opened the barricade and walk in to stand at the spot where a barman would stand if he was pouring a drink. He took another step and his leg hit something. Then he was electrocuted.
Chike first felt the pain on his hip. For as long as the shock continued he was rooted to the spot like he was paralyzed. He couldn't say anything or scream as the electrical current passed through his body, leaving him limp and momentarily clueless on how to stop it.
Then it stop and he lost feelings in his legs and fell over the counter. His attacker came out of hiding still holding the stun gun tightly. She moved closer to where his overwhelmed body was and watched his face. Her little blue eyes dimmed considerably.
"Uncle Chike?" She called out in her tiny voice that was suddenly filled with relief.
"Hi Kara" Chike knew he would soon slipped to the floor and possibly pass out from humiliation. So he yelled to his friend first.
"Jason, I found her!"
