Chapter 77 - When The Time Is Die

Chapter 77: when the time is die

Jason stared in horror at his daughter's crouched figure on the bed. She was wriggling and she was obviously in pain. He wished a thousand and one things to befall Kane and none of them were good.

It took a lot of pleading on Jason's side for Kane to take off the cuffs on Kara's hands, so she could lie on the bed.

Kara curled up like a ball for comfort and even though she braced herself for the pain, it still knocked her down every time. She knew how difficult it was to breathe and she tried to do as little as humanly possible.

Kane moved closer and pushed the hair out of her face. He wiped her face with a wet rag.

"Stay away from me!" Kara cried anytime his hand touched her which was always followed by calling out to Jason for help.

"Help me, Daddy. It hurts!"

Jason tried to break free but it was fruitless. The only thing the cuffs did was leave nasty marks on his wrists but he didn't stop trying. With each call for help from his child he struggled even harder until the cuffs was burrowing deeper into his flesh.

It was a wonder he felt no pain whatsoever. His focus was on Kara, on her little curled up body and even when he closed his eyes to get away, all he saw was a picture of Kara in pain.

"Kane! Do something! She is in pain. Let her go. You have me, you will get your money!"

Kane stopped wiping Kara's face and turned to look at Jason. He had a look on his face.

He moved closer to Jason and used the side of his gun to hit his jaw.

Jason felt blood pool inside his mouth and he spat it out. It wasn't the first time Kane hit him with the menacing weapon.

"Do you think I like seeing her in pain?!" Kane yelled at him "And you are even dumber if you think I am going to let her go. I came to this god forsaken place for her. She is my daughter not yours and she deserves to stay with me!"

Jason looked at him. His heart sank into his stomach. Even if Kane got his money, he had no intention of letting Kara go.

Jason's heart pounded faster and faster as he spoke to Kane.

"Why ask for ransom if you had no intention of leaving her behind? Why waste time when you can grab her and take her out of town immediately?" Jason wondered why he was suddenly curious about his motive.

"It's all your fault. You have money and she is used to a certain standard of living. She won't take the bread I got from the supermarket because it wasn't freshly baked five minutes ago. How am I supposed to compete with that? I need money to and you are going to give it to me"

Jason looked away. Now that he knew Kane's plan, it didn't comfort him either. Kara moaned and started throwing up.

"Hold her hair up and her face down. She will choke on her vomit if she keeps lying by her side like that" Jason advised him.

Kane's eyebrows were pulled together and his nose wrinkled at the sight of the vomit.

Jason shook his head when he noticed his disgust and a sudden anger descending into him as he glared at Kane.

"Help her, you moron! What do you think fatherhood is all about... sunshine and rainbows? Well, news flash... it's mostly telling monsters away and wiping vomit from her body or when she had to go pee and mistakenly leave some on her clothes and her father has to get her right again. So help me God! If you let my kid choke on vomit, I will wrap this cuff on your neck and snap it!"

Jason wondered why he was threatening a man with a gun. A mad man capable of taking his life but whatever he had said must have worked because Kane uncuffed one hand.

He pointed the gun at Jason and watched him keenly while he dealt with the other cuffed hand, himself.

As soon as he was free, Jason flew like a jet to Kara and lifted her up. He placed her in the correct position and held her hair up as she vomited some more.

"You are alright, bean! Daddy is here. It's fine"

Jason took the wet rag by the side of the bed and wiped her mouth. He also wrapped his arms around her as she relaxed further into his body.

"Am I going to die?" Kara asked him

"No. That is not even possible. A fairy godmother told me you will live until you are a hundred and one years old. She said a hundred earlier but I told her that Princess deserved an extra year" Jason told her to comfort her.

Kara chuckled through her pain. She knew her father was lying. She was almost seven years old, not a moron but she accepted his explanation to comfort Jason.

"Okay, Dada"

Kane was amazed at how Jason handled the situation but he would rather eat a bullet than admit it.

His phone vibrated and he took it out of his pocket. It was Amazing Donna. She wanted to know where he was.

"The hour I gave your wife is up. Leave Kara on the bed and come back to the chair" Kane ordered him.

Jason would rather kane shoot him than abandon his suffering daughter. He looked around for an alternative solution.

"How about you cuff me to this railing by the bed, that way I don't have to stop holding her?" Jason suggested to him.

"You are not in the position to make demands, Jason"

"I am not moving an inch away from her. It's either you cuff me to that railing or you stay here and make sure I don't escape. But I am not moving" Jason told him adamantly.

Kane simply pointed the gun at Jason and he squeezed the trigger.

Naya and Chike stepped out of the car. Naya felt nauseous and sick to her bones. Every lead they followed was a burst and the hour was almost up.

"We failed. Oh God, I am never going to see her again, am I?" Naya asked as she ran to the side of the road to throw up.

Chike closed his eyes briefly to get over his own feelings. He wasn't giving up yet.

"We will find them...I will find them" Chike murmured to himself.

His phone rang and it was Mckenna. Chike picked up.

"Hello"

"Did you find them?" Mckenna asked him

"No...not yet" Chike answered.

"Tell Naya I said sorry...I have to get the money to Kane and get my family back"

"Mckenna! No! Don't do…"

Mckenna hung up before Chike could finish his warning.

Mckenna exhaled. She picked up the black backpack she placed the money in and entered her car.

She was half out the gate when the message came in about a new meeting place.

She read the message and she drove off.

She sat down in the chair in the deserted garden that Kane wanted her to sit and she waited patiently for him to come.

Mckenna sat there for about five minutes when a young dark boy approached her and sat down beside her.

"Are you waiting for Kane?" The boy asked her and Mckenna nodded.

"Are you Kane?"

"No. But he sent me to collect the bag from you"

Mckenna turned around and looked at the boy that looked like a teenager. He wasn't Kara's biological father.

"Go and tell him that I only deal with him. The money stays with me until I have my family"

"Money?"

Mckenna saw the way the boy's eyes lit up when she said money. She was about to say something when a message came into her phone.

(Give the money to the boy, Mckenna)

Mckenna wanted to reply when all of a sudden, the boy tried to take the bag from her by force.

They struggled for a few seconds and before Mckenna could get over that shock, they were both surrounded by able bodied men.

Mckenna gasped when she saw Elixir come out.

"Mom"

Elixir grabbed the teenager's jaw and examined him. She ignored Mckenna.

"It's not him!" She told the boys with her. "Take him. He might have some information that will aid us in capturing Kane" Elixir ordered them and they grabbed the boy.

"No! Where is my family?!" Mckenna tried to grab the teenager. She was in tears now as she struggled to get her hands on him.

"Please, take my emotional daughter in law to the car. Stay there with her. I don't want her doing something stupid to get my son and grandbaby killed"

The man tried to touch Mckenna but she took a step back.

"No! I want to help find my family!" She yelled at Elixir.

Elixir flashed her a murderous glare. "I think we can all agree you've done enough, Donna"

Mckenna flinched when she heard what Elixir called her. When did she become the enemy? She simply didn't resist when the thug took her to the car.

Elixir turned around and took out her phone. She dialed a number and waited till the person picked up.

"It's me, Elixir Yagazie. I want my son's tracker activated...I don't care...he has been kidnapped....just activate it."
