Chapter 118 - The Birthmark

"Why? Is there...something wrong about it, Zeus?" Staring straight into his dark black eyeballs, she gulped her saliva anxiously. His sudden loud reaction seemed a bit unusual to her compared to how calm and composed he was all this time.

Sitting numb like a statue, he couldn't believe his ears momentarily and gazed again at the tombstone to reconfirm it. Indeed, the date of demise for both of them was 24th April 2010...the same day when he saved the life of that young human girl.

All of a sudden, a thought crossed his mind like a thunderbolt when he was gawking at the grave. The young girl who he had saved had a small reddish-brown colored star-shaped birthmark on her right elbow. He had peeked a glance at the mark when he was healing her and today, the small thing was about to have a huge impact on him.

"Show...Show me your right elbow." Stuttering intensely, he whispered to her.

"What?"

"Show me your elbow. I...I want to see it."

"But why? What has happened, Zeus? Why do you look so fretful--"

Before even she could complete her remark, Zeus impatiently pulled out her arm and rolled up her sleeves without waiting for her consent. His heart was palpitating in concern and his strange behavior quite startled Eva too.

But...indeed his hunch was right! Rolling up the sleeves, he noticed that exact mark, curved on her elbow. Swirling his pupils wider, he suddenly moved an inch away from her, releasing her from his grip without uttering a single word. As he seemed unable to process the happenings right before his sight.

"Zeus? Wh-What happened? Why do you look so tensed? Did...Did I do something wrong? Are you...angry with me somehow?" She slowly crawled a bit closer to him and softly touched his forearm, asking in a fretted tone.

After a moment of his absolute silence, he mumbled in a deep note, "do...do you remember what happened that night?"

"I clearly remember up to the point when the wolves intentionally jumped right before our car causing it to flip over... But, after that...I was separated from my parents and gradually passed out... I don't remember a single thing that happened afterward. Doctors had already termed that due to the heavy trauma, I got amnesia. They also remarked that it was purely a miracle that saved my life or else...here I would have been sleeping inside a coffin too along with my parents--"

Before she could conclude her sentence, gripping her arm, Zeus tugged her hastily inside his embrace wrapping her small body within his arms. He started sobbing bitterly as the pain of guilt and regret was stirring him up from inside. He held her as tighter as he could, shedding warm tears on her shoulder which she could sense vividly, and that left her absolutely spellbound.

"Zeus...Wh...Why are you crying?"

"Th-Thank you... Thank you for coming back to me... Thank you for staying alive... I...I had almost lost you, but, thank you for not listening to my command and appearing before me again... Thank you...Thank you for sealing my fate..." He was wailing out aloud like a small child, clenching his grip tighter around her. From his gesture, he seemed too afraid to lose her.

"Zeus, but, you are the one who had saved my life that night from committing suicide. I should be the one thanking you for it... Why you are the one thanking me? What did I do? And, why are you sobbing?" She sounded much baffled, watching him unexpectedly mourning in her arms.

"I committed a blunder that night... I left you alone on the street covered in blood and bruises... If...If those wolves had come back again, they could have killed you! I was the one who refused to take you to the hospital in that critical state...Fuck! I feel... so fucking repentant right now...If I had known that time, you will rewrite my destiny one day, I would have never left you alone, Eva... I am sorry for everything...but I won't hide anything my bitter truth from you anymore. I am prepared to face the consequences." Regretting inside his heart, he continued shedding his tears snuggling in her shoulder groove.

"Zeus, will you please say something? It's making me more anxious right now." Clenching her grasp over his firm broad shoulder, she asserted in a heavy voice, fanning intensely.

He slowly pulled out himself from her embrace and quietly chose to wipe his tear-soaked eyes. His bright face was flustered red from sobbing too hard and clearing his throat, he raised his chin up to stare at her who seemed on the edge of curiosity.

"Eva, within the coming next three days...I swear...I will disclose everything about me. I won't keep anything conceal from you anymore." He declaimed in a rugged voice.

Swirling her dilated pupils wider, she gasped her breath staring at him vividly. "Disclose? What else you have kept hidden from me, Zeus?"

"My real truth... I will let you know...who am I..."

Cupping his side grimace, she asserted while fidgeting anxiously, "I am already aware of the truth that...you aren't a human like me. But I have still chosen to love you--"

"It will be up to you... if you can still love me after knowing who am I...Eva, I will show you my dark world, and it's my promise to you right before your parents." He interrupted her remark in a bold declamation, staring straight into his eyes holding an immense deep gaze.

For a while, she was spellbound with his unexpected proclamation, and couldn't utter any word. Momentarily keeping her silence, she politely nodded her head before answering, "alright. If you have already decided so, I will gladly wait for your confession. But always remember it, I do love you and I believe, nothing will change in our relationship. Everything will be just the same as we are now, right next to each other."

Staring at her warm smile with a dark, sullen gaze, Zeus he shook his head a little, clenching his fist with all the perplexing thoughts crowding his mind, "no matter whatever is awaiting for me ahead...I will face it gallantly. But I won't abandon my destiny, ever again..."
