Chapter 294 - Leave early (I)

After the intense yet quick making-out session, both of them cleaned themselves in the bathroom in the office and moved to the couch to have lunch, which has gone cold by now. While Han Zihao was in the bathroom, Xu Nuan set the lunchboxes on the table with a pair of chopsticks for both of them. 

When he came out of the bathroom that was in the connected bedroom in the office, he found her patiently waiting for him for lunch.  ​​

" I still can't believe that you came all the way, just to have lunch with me," he commented as he sat on the couch, adjacent to her. 

" Woah, you make me sound as if I am such a bad girlfriend. You're talking as if I never do anything for you." She frowned. 

" Yes. You haven't even given me the surprise that you promised me during the trip. It's been a month already." He pouted. He got so excited when she said that she would give him a surprise which didn't come. 

Hmph!! So many lies. 

She pursed her lips and cleared her throat. To hide her guilt, she passed him his lunch and chopsticks, " I promised to give you a surprise, but I never said when. You're the one who thought that I will reward you immediately." She mumbled. 

He chuckled seeing her blaming him for thinking it wrong. Yeah, he is the one in the wrong. 

He took the lunchbox from her and asked, " So….why are you here?"

" Eh? What are you talking about? I came here to surprise my boyfriend." she smiled cutely. 

" Is that so? I doubt." he stared at her and saw her tapping her fingers on her knees. He knew that she was hesitating to say something. 

Hah! He was getting all excited to think that she came to see him, but that was not the case. 

He sighed. What a hard life he has? His girlfriend is more worried about work than anything. 

Xu Nuan pursed her lips and said, " Well, it was you who told me to keep personal and professional lives separate. Didn't you tell me to talk about work at the office only? That's why I came to talk about work, as well as have lunch with my boyfriend as well." she smiled, trying to console him. 

He took a sip of water from the cup and asked, " So Ms. Xu, what brings you here? I am sure it must be something important that you came unannounced like this." 

She raised her brows seeing him getting all formal with her. She was speechless but soon followed. She straightened her back and showed him her professional smile, " Mr. Han, nice to meet you too. Let me introduce myself once again. Hi, I am Xu Nuan, artist manager of The Knights, who are under your sub-company, Shining Bright." 

He pursed his lips seeing her formal introduction and frowned. What is she planning to do now?

" Mr. Han, are you aware of the achievement of the group under my care, The knights?"

He raised his brows but didn't interrupt her. " Do you know that the girls have been invited to perform at the upcoming jade awards, where no rookie group has performed before, except The Queens?"

" Yes, I am." He said, wondering why she is talking about that. She was the one who informed him about it a few days ago, so why was she asking the obvious? 

Seems like she was too much in her character right now. 

" Not only that, they have been nominated for the rookie of the year. Along with that, they have been nominated for the People's Best choice award, and the Song of the year, which only the senior groups who have a large fanbase got the nominations, forget about getting the award. Are you aware of all of that?"

" Mr. Tang filled me with everything already. Anything else that I should be aware of?" He asked. 

" Yes. After 'The knights' debuted, they worked to their bones and were attending numerous shoots and shows in such a short time. They not only paid their trainee debt but also profited the company a lot. The company's shares are on the rise and if you see the list of the top entertainment companies at the moment, shining bright has made it into the top 10. All that in such a short time."

" What do you think about this achievement?" She asks him with a constant expecting smile on her face. At the moment, she was talking to him as the manager Xu Nuan, not as his girlfriend. 

Seeing her formal appearance, he was caught off guard too. A while ago, she was m.o.a.ning and crying in his embrace and now she was facing him head-on. 

What crime has he committed? 

He cleared his throat, " I think you did a good job managing the girls. If all this continues, then shining bright will secure the top position among the entertainment companies for sure." 

" Well, I don't think that it will happen," she murmured under her breath. 

He raised his brows in question when she looked up at him, " Mr. Han, do you still remember the deal we made when I joined the Shining Bright as a manager?" 

He frowned. For some reason, he was getting a feeling that something is not right, but it was too late for him to stop her. 

" I came to you for investment but you offered me a job in your company. I was thankful for your offer back then, but I think it's time that we should talk about it."

She paused and drank some water before continuing, " We made a one year deal that if I failed to make the company reach in top companies in a year, I will have to return all of the salaries that I received in this time but also pay the interest for wasting company's resources."

" Do you remember that?" she asked seriously. 

He pursed his lips. At that time he made this deal because she was insisting on launching those four girls as a new group when everyone was against her decision. He thought that this harsh condition would make her back out but she accepted it and took charge of those girls.

And to his surprise, she did all of this before the contract period could even be over. It's been a few months since the girls debuted and they're already in so much demand. 

It's like a mission impossible for a new group who didn't get the same privileged treatment as the other yet they're shining better than any groups out there. 

That was insanely magical and shocking at the same time. 

He frowned and nodded cautiously. " Yes, I remember. I also remember that I promised you 10% of the company's shares if that happens."

" You don't need to worry about it. I will fulfill my promise and you will get your 10% as promised when the contract period ends in a few months."

She smiled and shook her head, " Make it 5%. Rather than 10%, I will take half of it, instead, allow me to leave the company early."

His expressions turned dark upon listening to her sudden demand. " What? Leave early? Xu Nuan, why so sudden?"

" Did anyone say anything to you? Did that...that Manager, what was her name….

" Wang Meili." She reminded him. 

" Yes. Did she say anything to you? Do you want to leave because of her? If that's the case, you don't need to worry about it. I will take care of it."

" You're the one who is handling the company single-handedly. If you leave the company, I don't think it can show better results than this. You're the one who made it to the top. You can't leave like this." He said earnestly, leaving behind his cool, professional image. 

Xu Nuan was baffled to see him acting like this and sighed, " Mr. Han, you're not my boyfriend right now, act as the President. President of Han Corporations." she insisted. 

" My girlfriend is trying to leave me here, and you want me to act like a President. I am not continuing with this drama anymore." He pouted. 

She sighed. " I am not trying to leave you, I am just asking to leave the company."

" Isn't that the same? Because of this, we got to spend a lot of time together, and working together brought us closer." He reasoned with her. 

" We work in different companies Mr. Han. It's not considered as working in the same company." 

Seeing his frowning expressions, she sighed. 

She moved closer to him and placed a hand on his knee and looked at him seriously, " No, it's not the same at all. I want to leave the company because I want to start my own company now. Do you remember that I came to ask you to invest in my new entertainment company?"

" My goal has been clear from the start. By working in shining bright, I acc.u.mulated quite a lot of experience as the manager of The knights and seeing how they're receiving the attention from the public, I think I can start my company now."

" Also, If I keep working under shining bright, I won't be able to do anything for my goal. I can't start my company nor poach any artists for the same. That's why I am asking to leave the company early."

Seeing him still not convinced by her words, she continued," Moreover, if I keep working in your company, I don't think I will be able to stand by your side as your girlfriend." 

When he heard those words from her, a scowled at her, " Now what does that mean? What does it have to do with our relationship? "
