Chapter 48 – Eventually, They Met
Theros couldn’t easily answer her question. Putting Lisa aside, the discomfort and anxiety in his chest grew more when the other person came to his mind. At that moment, a strong energy flowed out from inside the mansion as if it was announcing its existence. Ashia’s head turned to the door of the mansion.
“… Aura?”
“…”
Ashia asked, raising her head and looking at Theros.
“Tero, is there anyone else in there besides Lisa?”
Theros didn’t answer that question either, but Ashia seemed to know the answer without needing to hear his reply. She looked again at the door of the mansion and whispered, “Kaligo…”
“Noona.”
Ashia called the name of that distant man again. His anxiety multiplied. Just imagining the situation in which the two of them would meet face to face if she opened that door clouded his judgment. However, it wouldn’t stop her. He couldn’t even block and stop Ashia.
She walked away, leaving Theros behind. She walked forward without hesitation towards the door of the mansion.
“…”
As expected, he couldn’t grab her.
“Urgh!!”
“Is that because you don’t want to answer, or you can’t?”
“S-stop!”
“No, that’s not the answer I want to hear.”
Lisa’s expression distorted even more at the man’s sarcastic voice. The pressure intensified over time. Her eyes began to blur as she slowly reached the point where she couldn’t breathe.
‘Wh, what… is this?’
Maybe it was because it was only an aura that she thought of it as something ridiculous. No matter how much mana he had, wasn’t she still the Magic Tower’s Master?
Lisa ground her teeth.
‘You can’t do this to the Magic Tower’s Master!’
She needed to escape. She was about to attack the man with the magic gathering at her fingertips.
“Please stop it.”
“…”
A woman’s voice was heard from the door of the tightly closed receiving room. Kaligo’s gaze turned from Lisa on the table to the woman.
“I don’t know why you’re doing this, but can’t you solve it through talking?”
“…”
As the woman walked to the two of them, she spoke leisurely, closing the door she had opened. Kaligo slowly rose from the sofa, simply following her movements with his gaze. Her steps were like a butterfly on the field. Her yellow dress was fluttering like the wind as if she was walking on the clouds
“She is my friend. I apologize on behalf of her if Lisa did something wrong. Please calm down and retract your aura.”
“…”
“She is not in her best condition right now. She might really die from this… Please.”
“…”
Had Aileen’s request been granted? There was no affirmative answer from Kaligo’s mouth, but the dark red aura that had restrained Lisa disappeared in an instant as if scattered into the air.
“Ugh!”
“…Lisa!” Aileen went straight to Lisa’s side, supporting her. “Lisa, are you alright? My goodness… Rendell!”
When she called her escort, a knight hiding somewhere appeared and stood by her.
“Take Lisa to her room.”
“Yes, Your Royal Highness.”
Aileen sighed only after leaving Lisa to Rendell. Her gaze was on Lisa, but she could feel Kaligo’s gaze on her. She then turned towards him, fixing her hair and dress lightly. “Thank you for listening to my request. It seems I have yet to introduce myself.”
“…” The man standing in front of her had his mouth tightly closed. It felt rather rude and cruel of him.
“Pleased to meet you, Grand Duke Kaligo. I….”
“Aileen.”
“…”
“Aileen Encherances.”
He was indeed disrespectful. There wasn’t even the slightest respect for an imperial princess of an empire. But instead of being upset, all the muscles in her body stiffened with tension when his heavy and low voice called her name. She somehow felt goosebumps, and her heart was pounding. She had never once been nervous in front of others. She was always relaxed and calm.
‘Why… why am I like this?’
From what she heard, he was a handsome man with an elegant appearance. Aileen didn’t know much about men, but her standards weren’t that low. He was attractive enough to feel her heart flutter with just his pleasant voice and an intense gaze that resonated through the space. Even with so many bad rumors about him, she could see why many ladies from noble families still swarmed around him.
‘That’s a bad habit, but I can fix him…’
There were also rumors that he had changed a lot in recent years. That was enough.
‘His eyes are like rubies’
Her cheeks felt hot, but she didn’t want to turn her head away – because she didn’t want to ruin this moment when they were staring at each other.
And so, the two of them stared at each other for a long time. Just as the two of them stayed still, so did Ashia. She felt Kaligo’s energy when she opened the door. The reason her heart was pounding was probably that ominous feeling in her chest.
Aileen—that was what Kaligo called her. She didn’t know why the female lead had to be here when she was supposed to meet with Lisa, but that wasn’t what was important now.
“…”
Eventually, the two main leads met—that was what mattered. It wasn’t a very pleasant situation for Ashia, knowing it was supposed to happen.
Her chest felt tight as if it was being crushed. For some reason, it was challenging to say something in this atmosphere, so Ashia turned her eyes away.
