In the next few days, Chen Xu went over to Luo Xiyun’s place every day. She was now an injured person. He had to take care of her.

Caring for her only took cooking for an extra person.

He didn’t know whether the words he said that night had gotten through to her. Although Luo Xiyun was still very quiet, at least she wasn’t giving him looks, nor was she saying anything harsh.

During a meal, the two sat face to face. The table was not big, and they were very close to each other. A rechargeable desk lamp was placed at the side for lighting purposes.

Lifting his head every now and then while chewing his food, Chen Xu could see her face. In those moments, his heartbeat would accelerate. Under the white light, her skin seemed to be sheathed in a halo.

This feeling was completely different from seeing photos or videos. Women in photos and videos looked more refined and flawless, but after looking at them for so long through a computer or mobile phone screen, that feeling of a racing heart was lost.

Now, Luo Xiyun was sitting less than a meter away from him. He could feel her breath, even faintly smell the fragrance of her body, and see the shadow cast by the light on her long eyelashes.

All of this made him a little flustered.

Chen Xu quickly looked away, pushing down clamor in his heart.

He was not celibate, but if he couldn’t meet the right person, remaining single that way would be just fine. Having experienced a relationship, he felt that an affair between a man and a woman was nothing special.

However, once separated from the environment of modern society, when he was truly the only person left, it was indeed no easy feat.

Before this, when he was keeping distance from Luo Xiyun, he didn’t feel anything. Now, after close contact, he discovered that his willpower was far from strong.

If this were to continue, he felt that it wouldn’t take long for his inner beast to be unleashed.

“So… the generator can’t be fixed?”

Just as wild thoughts were roaring through his mind, Luo Xiyun suddenly spoke. As if waking from a trance, he thought he was having auditory hallucinations. He couldn’t help but look up at her.

It took him nearly a second to confirm that she truly had spoken. He said, “Oh… about that, the generator is broken. There’s no way to repair it.”

“Oh,” Luo Xiyun responded.

Chen Xu thought this must’ve been her attempt at friendliness. Thinking about her stubborn attitude in the past few months, this was probably a very difficult step for her to take. He was considering whether to say a few words himself.

“Will we die in this place?”

Before he could even think of something to say, Luo Xiyun spoke again. She was looking at his mouth, so he couldn’t tell if she was asking him a question or simply muttering to herself.

Chen Xu had never expected her to ask such a question. Her face looked very calm, but amid such calmness, he suspected that there was something off with her emotions. For a moment, he didn’t know how to answer her. He could only ask her a question in return, “Why do you ask?”

“The rain has been pouring down for a few days. I have never seen such heavy rain that could last so long.”

Chen Xu knew that she was right. It had been five days since the typhoon. The typhoon stopped after two days, but the rain never ceased.

The rain poured for five days and five nights. To Chen Xu’s knowledge, nothing like this had happened before. He assumed many low-lying areas were already flooded.

The terrain here was higher, and during summer rainstorms in the past two years since he joined the company, he had never heard of the surrounding areas being flooded.

Nonetheless, if the rain were to pour relentlessly, it would be hard to say.

This morning, he went around to have a look. A great portion of low-lying areas were already showing signs of accumulating water.

In fact, he was already thinking that if the rain didn’t stop after two days, he would start preparing to move away. He had already thought of the location.

Chen Xu comforted her, saying, “Rain will always stop.”

“But what if it goes on forever?” Luo Xiyun turned her head towards him and looked in his eyes. Within her bleak eyes was a glimmer of confusion, “Anything could happen at the end of the world, am I not right?”

For her, the present was the end of the world. All humans had disappeared, and only two of them remained. If this wasn’t the end of the world, what could it be?

The unceasing downpour made her pessimistic about the future. Perhaps it was because of this that she had let go of the tension between them so easily.

Chen Xu said, “As long as we’re alive, this will not be the end of the world.”

Luo Xiyun looked at him with a new brightness to her eyes.

“However, your concerns are warranted. There is no way of knowing when this rain will stop. Maybe we should get prepared to move away.” Chen Xu took the opportunity to share his idea.

“Move away?” Luo Xiyun had some doubts and confusion.

Ever since the beginning, Chen Xu had only regarded this place as a temporary base camp. He hadn’t planned to live out the entire six months here. Later, when Luo Xiyun arrived and the two initiated a cold war of sorts, he was denied the chance to ever bring up moving away. So, his plans had been stalled.

He had already started making some preparations long ago. In his garage, there was a 12-wheeled truck that was loaded with a ton of supplies.

Now, he was very fortunate for his foresight. The rain today became even more intense, making it difficult to transport things. Due to these prior preparations, the amount of supplies he had to move was greatly reduced.

It took him an entire day to fill the remaining space in the truck with food and water. In the morning after a night of rest, he immediately left the place where he had lived for more than four months with Luo Xiyun.

When Luo Xiyun got in the truck, she seemed reluctant to leave and the fearful of the unknown future.

“Let’s go. We’ll come back again if we have the chance,” Chen Xu comforted her. He started the engine and began driving towards a brand-new future.

His driver’s license was a class C, which was not meant for such heavy vehicles. He learned to drive a truck by himself in the past few months. Initially, it was to clean up the vehicles on the road. It was too much trouble to drive them away one by one.

So, he thought of a simple solution: drive a heavy truck to directly hit through the cars in the middle of the road. Sure enough, it was way more efficient. In less than a month, the surrounding roads were cleared.

Because of his familiarity with the roads, he was able to bypass the low-lying areas that were likely flooded, thus saving a lot of time on their journey. They reached the destination around noon.

Their destination was a villa built on a hill. It was a villa area, the highest place in the district, and not too far from his company. He came to this place once when he was treasure hunting and discovered how suitable it was as a place to live.

The most important aspect was that the villa that he had chosen its own generator.

It was too inconvenient to have no electricity, especially on such rainy days.

He parked the car at the entrance of the villa. After they went in, the first thing they did was a thorough clean of the villa.
