Jiang Yi and He Lao were wandering in the maze aimlessly, and every time Jiang Yi walked into a palace hall, he would retrieve a piece of wooden block in the Fire Spirit Pearl and throw it in the corner. Furthermore, the length of the wooden blocks would all be different, helping them have an estimate direction.
As a result—after going through over a dozen halls, they didn’t encounter any of the repeated palace halls. It was apparent that there were countless halls in this maze.
“Eh?”
When they entered one of the halls, Jiang Yi and He Lao’s eyes lit up a the same time. They noticed a set of skeleton in this palace hall, and it had eroded. There were plenty of tiny holes in the bones, and it was obvious the victim passed away for many years.
“Someone came before! It might be Yun Lu!”
Jiang Yi noticed that one of the leg bones were moved beyond the limit, and there weren’t any weapons by the side of this skeleton. Neither was there any ancient divine essence ring. It was possible that this skeleton had been looted.
“En, chase!”
He Lao’s spirit was invigorated as they immediately rushed through the left door. The instant they entered the door, He Lao and Jiang Yi both felt an intense sensation of danger, causing their eyes to shrink quickly.
Tsk-Tsk!
The two sides of the walls suddenly lit up, and there were about five rays of white light that were shot at them. These white lights were just like Su Clan’s Purple Charm Divine Light, filled with destructive aura presence. Jiang Yi and He Lao didn’t have any doubts: if they were hit by the white light, their bodies would be turned into dust.
“Soul-Devouring Shifting Art!”
Jiang Yi firmly decided to instant shift. He had tried it out in this maze, and he was able to instant shift without any restraint.
Swish!
Jiang Yi instant shifted and evaded the white lights with ease. He shifted to the nearby vicinity of the opposite door. The moment he shifted, there was a white light that radiated from below his feet—as countless spears with chilling aura thrust out.
“The hell!”
The speed of the spears was too fast, and one of it had easily pierced through the bottom of Jiang Yi’s foot. Had it not been for his fast reaction speed—where he responded by flying up immediately, his entire leg would have been penetrated; and his crotch might be drenched in blood.
Bang!
Jiang Yi slammed the ground with one of his hand, and his body bounced up. He forcefully twisted his body and rushed into the door.
Tss…
Once he entered the hall, Jiang Yi made sure there wasn’t any danger before he rolled on the ground, clasping the blood drench foot while grimacing in pain.
Swish!
He Lao quickly flew over. He was of peak-stage Soul Travel Realm, and his reaction speed was much faster than Jiang Yi, and so he naturally didn’t sustain any injuries.
Jiang Yi was injured, and they had to stop their progress, waiting for Jiang Yi to recover. Fortunately, Jiang Yi reaction speed was fast enough; and it didn’t hurt his bones. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to move for two or three days.
“This Witch God is such a ruthless individual. I was thinking about how could the fourth floor be this simple?”
He Lao spoke in a grave tone and looked at those four doors with lingering fear. They had to be cautious when entering the doors in the future. Some of these halls might be a death zone, where the restriction would turn them into pulp upon entry.
After recuperating for half a day, the wound on Jiang Yi’s foot had recovered completely; and there was no problem in walking. Thus, they continued to advance. Both of them let out a breath of relief when they didn’t encounter any more dangers after walking straight through a dozen palace halls.
Swish!
When the two of them entered another hall, danger arrived. There was a white light that suddenly flashed from the ceiling, releasing five flashes of lightning which whizzed at them like silver dragons.
“God damn it!”
Jiang Yi and He Lao cursed at the same time while they quickly flew backward, back into the door that came in from. Their speed was a little too slow as two of the lightning caught hold of them. Just as they shot back into the previous hall, their bodies were both convulsing on the ground and trembling non-stop while their hairs all stood on the ends. Their clothes and hairs were fuming with smoke while they could smell something charred.
They had been struck by lightning.
After over a dozen breaths, Jiang Yi and He Lao’s bodies finally stopped trembling; but they didn’t have the strength to stand and merely took big breaths. It took them some time before they could struggle to sit up. While looking at each others’ black and charred faces, they revealed a bitter smile.
It wasn’t a great feeling to be struck by lightning. If they didn’t retreat fast enough and were struck by all those lightning, they couldn’t even imagine what kind of predicament they would be in.
After resting for some time, the two of them had recovered. Their physical bodies were still considered strong, especially He Lao’s body which was nurtured by the essence force for so many years. Even if a low-grade martial artist was to hack at his body, he wouldn’t die from all those hacking.
Even so, the two of them still felt sore and discomfort throughout their bodies. Their clothes were in rags, and a sweep of their hair caused ashes to fall off.
Two hours later, the two of them got up and continued walking. This time, they didn’t dare to walk through the left door and rushed into another door.
After running for quite some time, they encountered various dangerous situations. All the palace halls looked the same, but some of them would have their restrictions activated upon entry. Some of them produced white lights, lightning, underground spears, intense flames, wind blades, poison mist, and plenty of other traps.
Jiang Yi and He Lao would be filled with filth and grime after each encounter. Had it not been for He Lao’s formidable strength and Jiang Yi’s instant shifting art and also his Earth Fire as protection, they would have died multiple times.
Just like that, the two of them continued to walk, wander, look for an exit, and search for Yun Lu. After wandering for five days, they had narrowly escaped death multiple times and discovered a few more sets of bones. As they continued wandering, there were no exits and no signs of Yun Lu.
The two of them took turns to rest and searching blindly. They quickly noticed a tragedy as they would constantly return to the palace halls where they entered before and see the little wooden block that Jiang Yi placed in.
We can’t get out!
Jiang Yi and He Lao didn’t say it, but their minds were revolving with this thought. Anyone who could come to this floor must at least be at the peak stage of the Soul Travel Realm or had some powerful abilities. There were a few skeletons in this place, and it meant that they weren’t able to walk out of this maze with their strength.
“Yun Lu must have already walked out of this maze!”
After searching for another three or four days, Jiang Yi and He Lao stopped. They had walked through at least 100,000 palace halls during this period time, but there were no signs of Yun Lu’s traces. It meant that Yun Lu was definitely able to control the restriction here and had successfully walked out of the maze.
They were seated on the ground and munching on the rations and drinking the clean water, but they tasted just like white wax and flavorless. He Lao’s had this gloomy expression as they had tried everything, and this maze might ultimately become their graves.
Countless years later—if anyone managed to come into this place, they might just discover their skeletons.
“I have to do it!”
Jiang Yi ate the last bit of jerky and stood up abruptly. He looked at the stone ceiling above him, and he knew he only had one last move. If he was still unable to exit after this, they would be trapped here until they die.
“He Lao, back away!”
He Lao was surprised by Jiang Yi’s shout as he looked at Jiang Yi with a confused expression. He asked, “Young Master Yi, what are you trying to do?”
“I am going to destroy this stone ceiling!”
Jiang Yi gritted his teeth and explained, “I only have two pieces of Fire Spirit Rock left, and if I can’t break open this stone ceiling and escape from here. Then I have no other ways.”
“En?”
He Lao’s eyes lit up with an expression filled with hope. He quickly backed to one side and looked at the stone ceiling nervously. This was indeed their final hope.
“He!”
Jiang Yi made a takeoff run and stepped on the walls a few times before a piece of Fire Spirit Rock appeared from the Fire Spirit Pearl. He then vigorously shot it upwards.
Tsk-Tsk!
Once the Fire Spirit Rock made contact with the stone ceiling, it quickly fumed with green smoke; and the ceiling was radiating with white light as the restriction was quickly being scorched through. Jiang Yi and He Lao widened their eyes while their bodies tensed up, desiring for a miracle to happen.
