Wu Que’er and Jiang Yi stayed for one day only. Then, they took off straight toward Saint Emperor City. Outside, the entire earth was being flipped upside down.
The Human Race Alliance had been formed. The North Thearch and his four assistant leaders discussed for an entire day before they gave their first order. All the peak-stage Heaven Monarchs and Demigods in the continent were to join the army. They had to train and gather the war chariots for battle. At the same time, they had to start picking out the spies that Jiang Yi and Ao Lu had planted in East Imperial Continent. They needed to do all things necessary to prepare for the battle.
On the surface, it was said to be a discussion. However, only the North Thearch called the shots.
The thing that Tang Shenji was most worried about was happening. Apart from the four assistant leaders, the heads of all the other great family clans—including the ancient family clans and concealed great sects—had no say at all in deciding the next move.
The North Thearch gave a good explanation for that. He said that Ao Lu and Jiang Yi must have planted a few spies in the great family clans in the continent; otherwise, they would not be starting wars all over the place. The Sonar Thearch was given as an example. Thus, the team decided on the fate of the continent. They were not to leak the information, or the Human Race Alliance Army’s fate would be in Jiang Yi’s control. The human race would perish for sure.
After the North Thearch suggested the next move, the Sword Thearch and the Beast Thearch nodded and supported him without much thought. Xing Mengwan thought about it for a few minutes but finally decided that the North Thearch’s idea was good. It would gather the power of the East Imperial Continent. As they trained and strategized together, the battle skills of the army would improve. It would also be easier to give instructions and control them.
There was no big problem with the North Thearch’s suggestion, but Tang Shenji was thinking more deeply. If all the formidable martial artists were disciplined according to military regulations, the great family clans would lose influence and control over them. When that time came, everybody would respect the military rules more than their own family clans. The North Thearch would then become the supreme leader.
However, Tang Shenji could not do much about it. Three people were already in agreement. Even if he spoke up, he was only one vote. There was no way he could influence the decision. For the sake of unity within the alliance army, Tang Shenji had no choice but to agree.
The North Thearch named the Sword Thearch as the commander of the alliance army. He was in charge of gathering the army. Xing Mengwan was the strategist, in charge of coming up with battle formations and improving the army’s battle power. The Beast Thearch was the patrol envoy, in charge of enforcing the military rules and checking up on spies. Tang Shenji accepted the role of assistant commander, but he was only in charge of back-end matters.
In the face of this huge threat, everybody and every great family clan dared not get into disputes with one another. The great Human Race Alliance Army was formed, and they were trained and disciplined according to the military rules. Many great family clan heads were named great generals. They were put in charge of many soldiers and were themselves quite excited.
The Sword Thearch was one of the Nine Thearchs. He was considered quite high and mighty. No one complained that he had become the commander of the army. The Heaven Monarchs of the various clans were also gathered and incorporated into the army. Together, they trained outside the North Thearch City.
Xing Mengwan did not keep anything for herself. Instead, she taught the army many formidable battle formations, causing the entire army to improve considerably. This excited the army even further. For the first time, they saw a genuine hope in winning the battle.
The Beast Thearch brought his subordinates to patrol the entire area. They began to catch spies. He had in his hands the authority to kill. If he found anyone whom he suspected was related to Jiang Yi, he was allowed to kill that person on the spot. Many people felt like they had a sword to their throats. No one dared to defy the Sword Thearch’s orders, for fear of being seen as a spy.
The North Thearch’s second order came soon after. The army was to train for three months. If the demon’s army and Jiang Yi did not enter the East Imperial Continent, the Human Race Alliance Army would start the second holy war. This time, they would aim to kill the human traitor—Jiang Yi—and the Thearch of Demons, Ao Lu.
News began to spread within the army that the North Thearch and several assistant leaders had a perfect strategy this time. They were ninety-percent confident in killing Jiang Yi and Ao Lu. They were likely to emerge victorious.
The Human Race Alliance Army was getting antsy. They trained with all of their might. The old Demigods also joined the army and began training together. With the help of multiple battle formations, their battle skills were through the roof.
Everyone in the alliance army began to sharpen their swords. They were preparing for the holy war to begin in three months and preparing to kill the demon race and Jiang Yi, so that the human race could be restored to their glory days. Everyone who fought in this war was promised that their names would go down in history; they would be remembered for generations to come.
…
At that moment, Jiang Yi was in the Death God’s Dense Sea, totally oblivious of what was happening outside. He did not know that humans and demons were going to war in three months.
They had set off for twenty days already. This time, Hun Can brought with him three thousand soldiers. They got through Pan Wang Mountain easily. Now, the journey was smooth. Jiang Yi guessed that they would arrive in Saint Emperor City in three or four days.
Jiang Yi was beginning to get bored. The personal guards were all his people. He felt like a commander, acting in secret. He did not have to endure anybody’s tantrums. The only thing that really upset him was the Young Chieftain, Hun Can. He came to look for Wu Que’er every single day without fail, trying to please her.
Wu Que’er was of high status, but she had always given these Young Chieftains some form of respect. After all, she had to maintain some form of relationship with the people here. They were still useful to her. At the very least, she could use them as her shields if her life was threatened.
Thus, Wu Que’er had to entertain Hun Can for some time each time he came to look for her as much as she did not want to meet him.
Buzz!
That day, the army rested at the foot of a hill. Jiang Yi was resting as well in Wu Que’er’s Heaven Fate Canopy. The restrictions outside kept flashing non-stop. It was obvious that Hun Can was there again. Jiang Yi stood up—frustrated—and ordered Wu Que’er to sit back down. Then, he walked out to deal with Hun Can.
Buzz!
The restrictions flickered, and Hun Can appeared. He walked in, taking big steps and carrying a bowl of hot soup. Smiling, he said to her, “Lady, I killed a Young Sky-Wind Beast two days ago. This is among the top ten saint beasts, and the young ones are extremely hard to come by. I’ve just made some soup with it and immediately brought it over for you.”
“Oh! Just put it down.”
Wu Que’er glanced at him coolly. Jiang Yi wanted to sit back down, but on hearing that the soup was made from one of the top ten saint beasts, he paused and turned to look at it curiously. Hun Can caught sight of Jiang Yi and wondered why he was alone with the priestess in the Heaven Fate Canopy.
He scanned Jiang Yi from head to toe, trying to hint to Jiang Yi to get out of the canopy, so that Hun Can could seduce Wu Que’er without any interruptions. Instead, Jiang Yi caught the smell of the soup. Thinking that it smelled good, he slowed down considerably. This angered Hun Can, who roared, “Get out!”
“En?”
Jiang Yi wanted to turn around and move out at first, but he decided not to. Being bothered by Hun Can every single day made him feel quite frustrated. He looked Hun Can in the eyes and asked, “Are you sure you want me to get out?”
Hun Can’s expression changed. In his eyes, Jiang Yi was nothing but a homeless child. If the Undying Tribe did not pick him up, he would still be wandering around outside. Now, he got lucky and grabbed the opportunity to rescue Wu Que’er. This was the only reason why he managed to become her personal guard. Was he now trying to act high and mighty around Hun Can?
Hun Can was of noble origin. He was appointed Young Chieftain by Hun Nong himself. Thus, he was used to acting arrogant in Undying Tribe. On the spot, he raised his hand and moved to smack Jiang Yi across the face as quickly as lightning. Since Hun Can was stronger than ordinary Fierce Warriors, his speed was unmatched. In a split-second, his hand was just millimeters from Jiang Yi’s face. There was the sound of his hand cutting through the wind, coming at Jiang Yi’s face at full force.
Swish!
A white figure moved way faster than his hand. Wu Que’er appeared right beside him, the soft sword appearing in her hands. Just before Hun Can’s hand hit Jiang Yi’s face, her soft sword pressed against Hun Can’s neck.
“Uh—”
Hun Can’s hand stopped right beside Jiang Yi’s cheek, but Jiang Yi remained unflinching. The corners of his mouth were twisted up in a smirk. Wu Que’er’s skill and speed were much better than Hun Can’s. Why would he be afraid?
“Idiot!”
Jiang Yi cursed Hun Can under his breath and then walked a few steps to the side. He sat down and picked up the bowl of soup, gulping it down within seconds. Hun Can was still in shock by the time Jiang Yi finished the soup. Not a single drop was left. He wiped his hand with his hand and then slapped Hun Can across the cheek, causing him to fly back from the impact.
Swish!
Hun Can’s body tumbled on the group. He wanted to kill Jiang Yi upon humping to his feet, but Wu Que’er flew in front of him once again, her soft sword pressing against his neck. Wu Que’er’s gaze was cold. If he dared to move, he was sure that Wu Que’er would kill him.
“Lady, what are you doing…?”
Hun Can was about to question her, but Wu Que’er pressed her sword further into Hun Can’s neck, causing him to stop mid-sentence. Jiang Yi walked over to him lazily and placed one foot on his chest. In a cold tone, he said, “I did not want to touch you idiot, but you refused to give up. You keep bothering us like an annoying housefly, and you even sought trouble on your own. I’ll just grant your wish then.”
