Chapter 30 Unreconciled
Ning Yao thought to herself, ‘After Lily returns, maybe Clarence won’t give me so much important work anymore.”
Thinking of this, she felt a little disappointed.
“Let her in,” said Clarency without raising his head.
After Martin left for a while, a beautiful woman with long, wavy hair and a medium build followed him in.
Lily was very pretty, like a movie star. The Thai-style makeup on her face made her look very exotic.
Her pumpkin-colored lipstick made her look less flamboyant and gave her a more calm and reserved temperament.
When Lily entered the room, she did not look at Clarence immediately. Instead, she shot a quick glance at Ning Yao.
Although Lily was always away on business trips, someone kept her updated on the company’s situation.
She knew that Clarence had hired a new secretary who hadn’t even graduated yet. And no matter where he went, he would bring this little secretary with him.
The moment she saw Ning Yao, she knew that she had met a strong rival. Ning Yao had a face that was very attractive to men.
She was pure and clean, with a youthful vigor but also a hidden feminine charm.
This face, even without makeup, was more attractive than those women with heavy makeup.
Lily’s heart sank, but she did not show it.
She walked up to Clarence and called out softly, “Mr. He.”
Clarence raised his head and said, “You did well this time. The climate in the northwest is not good. Are you not used to it?”
“I’m fine. I’m not very tired. There’s a lot of delicious food over there.”She brushed her hair behind her ear and smiled gently.
The two of them seemed to have known each other for many years, so when they chatted, there was no sense of distance between a superior and a subordinate.
Ning Yao, who had been secretly listening, suddenly felt as if she was an outsider. She lowered her head and tried to make her presence unknown.
“Do you want to rest for a few days? I’ll get Martin to arrange a trip to Ladoga Island for you.” After Clarence signed the contract, he closed his pen and looked up at Lily.
The smile on Lily’s face froze for a moment. For a moment, she could not tell if Clarence was genuinely giving her a break or if he wanted her to give up her seat to someone else.
“It’s fine. My family’s counting on me to make money. Besides, I can’t stay idle. Mr. He, you know that.” Lily calmly rejected Clarence’s suggestion.
Clarence nodded. “Alright. I’m just afraid that they’ll say that I’m oppressing you too much. Since you’re not too busy, follow up on Miles Corporation’s projects with Martin. Andy has run into some trouble. If it really doesn’t work, you’ll have to make a trip there. Make sure that your visa to D Nation has not expired.”
She nodded in response, but after listening to all the arrangements, her heart began to sink.
The arrangements Clarence made were all very important, and it seemed like he valued her.
However, all of these things had one thing in common. Her duties were not in the city and she didn’t need to report to Clarence often.
In other words, she was no longer in charge of work directly related to Clarence.
She felt so depressed that she could barely breathe.
She could feel the breathing of a third person in the office and she did not know if the girl named Vera was happy and proud at this time.
Before she returned, her colleagues had already bet that Vera would pack up and leave as soon as she returned.
But now, it seemed like she was the one Clarence was trying to distance himself from.
She could not believe that this was a decision made by Clarence. He was a very fair and just person. She was sure that she was his best secretary as she knew all his habits and hobbies. Why did he ask her to leave?
Was Vera really that much of a favorite of his?
The smile on Lily’s face seemed to crack. She really wanted to voice her doubts before Clarence.
Why did he want to keep Vera? Could this newcomer have done better than her?

Clarence looked up and noticed that Lily was still standing there. He raised his eyebrows in confusion. “Is there anything else?”
Despite a storm raging in her heart, Lily revealed a standard smile and calmly said, “It’s fine. I’ll be outside. Call me if there’s anything.”
The last sentence was what she used to say to Claraence and she said it out of habit.
However, it didn’t seem necessary…
If he needed anything now, the person he would be calling for should be that woman, right?
Lily walked out of the office in her high heels. Before she left, she glanced at Vera’s work area and saw that the girl was reading some documents with her head lowered.
What’s she pretending for? She must be very proud now, right?
Lily was not someone who was easily jealous of others. Usually, it was others who were jealous of her.
However, at this moment, she really hated this woman called Ning Yao.
Ning Yao did not notice when Lily had left the room because she had received a message on her phone.
