Han Mei's eyes bulged in surprise. "Lawyers?" She asked, unsure. 'Is he planning to sue us?'
He smirked, knowingly, "It saves time. I can't let go of anyone who caused me so much trouble. So who bears the consequences of your actions?" Suzuki Kyou asked his voice, still carefully blank.
However, Han Mei had an instinct that he wanted to lash out at her. That was why she was so careful and alert in case he suddenly do so. She also could not help and feel that she also deserves to be shouted at.
"I would, of course." Han Mei said fearlessly, but carefully at the same time. She tilted her head up in a gesture that Suzuki Kyou had never seen 'her' do before.
It was a gesture that silently said that she is currently afraid.
His lips twisted into a sardonic smile, "Of course." Suzuki Kyou said his smile was tightly held on by sheer control. "You are responsible for your mistakes, while the others do as well."
Han Mei frowned, "What do you mean by that? You can just blame me for everything." She insisted.
Suzuki Kyou shook his head. He then returned to his office chair before he pressed the intercom.
After he did that, it did not take long for someone to know on the door and opened it. Assistant Ye came in.
"Sir, you need something?" He asked with confusion, as he pushed his glasses up, aligning it properly using a finger.
"Tell her what will happen if the engagement is canceled." Suzuki Kyou demanded, before his seat turned around as if he refused to look at them further.
"Huh?" Assistant Ye asked, confused. He then shifted his gaze towards Han Mei, "You want to cancel the engagement?" He asked, his voice clearly laced with displeased.
Han Mei nodded reluctantly.
"That is stupid." Assistant Ye said blatantly.
"But I can't-"
"It's not your choice. The scandal alone could shrink the price of the Han Corp stocks. Also, you are part of the Han family, meaning they will be at fault as well, and won't be exempted once this deal did not push through. Aside from that, do you think any investor will want to work with a company that does not abide by the final agreement?" Assistant Ye said seriously and unhappily. His eyes also could not help but kept darting towards his boss that was still not facing them.
"But I really can't-"
Han Mei was interrupted again. "Regardless of the reason, it was too late to back out now, especially when the engagement was already official in public. Do you even know that the Han Corporation has a debt to pay? The Suzuki Corp is also a major investor. Do you think our company will be willing to continue investing? No. Suzuki Corp will pull out everything."
"How can you be so cruel?!" Han Mei could not help but yell in disbelief. She was now glaring at Suzuki Kyou's back.
He was quite upset himself. If Han Mei wanted to stop the engagement, why not do so sooner? However, he also has the feeling that even though she did not want the engagement earlier, his big boss still would not allow it to be canceled.
Han Mei understood what Assistant Ye was trying to say. She just did not expect that there was so much at stake at the engagement.
"I hope you are not considering the possibility of another woman from the Han family replacing you, right? Even if you have a twin, it is still stupid. The whole world knows that the bride's name is Han Mei." Assistant Ye added that cut off her thoughts.
"But we don't love each other." She tried to argue.
"Love is not part of the deal, but your family still agreed to it." Assistant Ye said. His expression clearly states that what he just heard was completely ridiculous.
"It there really no other way?" Han Mei said, her eyes glistering with unshed tears. She then started to sniff as if she was about to cry anytime soon.
Assistant Ye watched Han Mei's face fall and felt like they are monsters. It was annoying. Not only was she trying to break off from a huge deal, and did it so late, she also acted like she was the victim and not the one at fault here.
"No. Unless you want to start talking to our legal team." Assistant Ye said. The PR team won't be enough to fix another scandal. It was already a headache for the company for getting gossips regarding their CEO being gay. Though they were not completely against anyone being gay, it was just that the company was not so prepared for it.
Not to mention, that just earlier, there were negative articles regarding Han Mei. In his opinion, it was actually better if the marriage would not take place. Han Mei seems to bring trouble to them a lot.
"I can also send the bill for the hotel suite and the additional loan your father was requesting." Suzuki Kyou suddenly said with a small smile still held tightly in place. Who knew when his chair turned around and looked at them. They wouldn't be able to realize it sooner if he did not talk.
"Eh?" She asked, surprised.
Suzuki Kyou almost shrugged. It was not that surprising, really. He didn't want to be this person, but Han Mei had come to him 'on her knees' to beg him to let her go. Like he was some monster.
"Why don't we wait a little longer for us to decide?" Han Mei said, chewing nervously on her lip.
"We could discuss it tonight with your father. He is expecting me to come pick 'you' up for another date." Suzuki Kyou said and watched Han Mei pale.
Han Mei used her left hand to shove her hair away from her face as she still chewed on her lip and avoided looking at Suzuki Kyou.
Suzuki Kyou barely noticed the gesture as he tried to control his anger. He was looking at her coldly.
"Miss Han, this is only engagement, and the marriage won't happen so soon. You still have time to think things through." Assistant Ye said, breaking the silence. He was feeling uncomfortable with his big boss gaze, despite not the main focus of it. What more for Han Mei, who seems to get all Suzuki Kyou's attention?
"Can you… Can you give me a couple of days to decide and fix things on our end?" She asked softly.
"What thing?" Suzuki Kyou asked nonchalantly.
Han Mei nervously gulped, "They… They don't know about my current condition. I want to tell them first…" She explained carefully.
"No one else also knew that you went here, right?" Assistant Ye interrupted, on which she nodded slowly.
"They also don't know why you are canceling the engagement, right?"
Han Mai nodded again. "I… I only told it to you…" She honestly said as she looked to her fingers, fidgeting them.
"Oh, not that you mention it, why are you even canceling it?" Assistant Ye asked curiously.
Instead of answering, "How about this," Han Mei spoke again, as she looked at Suzuki Kyou seriously. "You come for the date after a few days, and we will discuss our engagement in a more neutral setting, okay?" She said with a forced smile, her eyes brimming with hope as if her wish would come true if he was in a better mood.
Suzuki Kyou had had enough. "Leave." He bit out, barely holding on.
"What?" Han Mei asked, losing the happy look as she stared wearily at him.
"Leave now." Suzuki Kyou, his knuckles clenched tightly, refusing to look at her further.
"Okay…" Han Mei said as she scrambled out of the room as quickly as her short legs could carry her. She was not even waiting for the third command to leave.
Suzuki Kyou sat back against his chair, quietly processing the day, ignoring Han Mei or whoever that was as she left the office.
Assistant Ye walked closely and stared weirdly at the mess on the floor. It did not take long for Suzuki Kyou to notice his assistant's silence. He then looked at Assistant Ye and followed the man's gaze.
"Sir, these files are the final contact for billions of dollar worth project. It is also already notarized. How could you vent your anger on them?" Assistant Ye could not help but softly complain.
