The Black Shark steadily drove towards the city with a red SUV trailing behind.

"Halt!" an armed soldier standing next to the post raised his hand and stopped them from proceeding any further.

Long Yu lowered the window as the soldier approached his car door.

"Oi, are you here to seek refuge?" the man asked with an unfriendly tone.

Looking at the soldier, he seemed sloppy and unmotivated. His camouflage outfit was a mess and a tattoo could be seen plastered across his neck. The way he handled his rifle was dangerous and unprofessional as well.

The other soldiers around the post weren't any better. If Long Yu was to describe them with one word, it would be, 'undisciplined'.

Obviously, Long Yu would not believe that these men were originally from the military. Mandatory military service in this country had been abolished long ago, so he doubt they received much training either. These men were probably hastily recruited as soldiers due to lack of manpower.

Perhaps there might have been more competent people to be recruited, but were not brave enough to face the dangers.

"Yes, but only some of us are," he replied calmly to the soldier who was standing by his car window.

"Anyway, you have to go through a check up before you can enter the city. Park over there and get off your vehicle," the soldier gruffly said.

Since there were other survivors at the entrance doing the same, Long Yu could only comply. He did not want to seek any unnecessary troubles as long as they could safely pass through the city.

He parked the Black Shark at the makeshift parking lot, while manager Zhang parked his SUV a few cars away. They were then led by a soldier to line up at an inspection point under a canopy tent.

As Long Yu observed the survivors lined up in front of him, he could see that some of them had relieved expressions while others still looked worried. This was understandable since most of these survivors must have went through hell before they got here.

The soldiers stationed under the tent mainly checked the survivors for bite or scratch marks and symptoms that indicated possible infections.

Suddenly, he heard shouts from one of the survivors that was being inspected. It was a frail looking middle aged man that was angrily pointing at his own arm.

"I told you this isn't a scratch mark from a zombie! I got this injury while I was escaping!" the man vehemently argued with the soldier.

"Doesn't matter, put him in a quarantine room like the others," the inspector ordered the other soldiers.

The man tried to struggle out of the soldiers' grasp but was quickly pressed to the ground.

"Motherfucker, how dare you go against us! Who do you think are protecting all of you here!?" one soldier kicked the man's abdomen as he cursed.

Seeing this scene made Long Yu frown, but he did not to take any action. Trying to defend a survivor who is possibly infected would bring trouble to himself, not to mention that he had no relations with that man at all.

After the commotion, the survivor was roughly dragged out of the tent by the soldiers.

"Next!" the inspector continued his work as if nothing happened.

Perhaps frightened by the scene, Xixi subconsciously moved closer to Long Yu.

"Don't worry, we'll be fine," he patted the little girl's head.

"Yea, your big brother is here to protect you after all," Li Xue Lan chimed in to comfort her.

Half an hour later, it was finally their group's turn. The inspection went smoothly without any issues. Long Yu waited for the girls to finish their inspection before exiting the tent together.

Manager Zhang and Wei Ying who were behind them were a little slower with their inspection. Well, not that he had any intention of waiting for them anyway.

"So we have arrived as promised," Long Yu said to Li Xue Lan. He had previously agreed to drop her off at a military camp if they come across one. This camp happened to be right along the way that they were travelling.

"En…" Li Xue Lan nodded with a somewhat sad expression.

"From the looks of it, the military situation in this city isn't as ideal as I would have thought. Otherwise, they wouldn't have recruited subpar personnels like the ones stationed at the entrance," he spoke his mind.

He then continued, "Anyway, it's up to you whether you plan to stay here. If not, you can also consider coming along w-"

Before Long Yu could complete his sentence, he was suddenly interrupted by a shout that seemed to be directed at them.

"Oi, you there, come back here! We have some questions for you!" the soldier that had previously greeted them at the entrance was running towards them.
