Chapter 69 - "Emo"

Zhao Yang had a bitter smile as he entered the car. He just arrived when Zhao Yun greeted him with a smile on his face.

"Uncle! How is it– going– " Zhao Yun's voice weakened. The boy stared at Zhao Yang's dark face.

'...eh? Did something happen? Is the problem that serious or– '

Zhao Yun glanced at the man sitting next to him. Zhao Yang just crossed his legs, acting as if nothing had happened, but one could see his face...doesn't look fine.

'Why is uncle...looks like he just made a grave mistake? That look on his face…'

Zhao Yun gulped.

'He looks like he is regretting something and also blaming himself?'

"Uh, uncle...are you okay– " Zhao Yun asked out of concern, but Zhao Yang interrupted.

"I'm fine. Let's go."

In a mere second, Zhao Yang closed the car door, and the car departed, leaving Lai Jiayi alone.

The wind blew….and the dry brown leaves fluttered in the air before falling to the ground.

Lai Jiayi stayed silent for a few seconds before she slowly looked back.

The orange-ish sunlight shone upon the yard, yet no one was there. Only the dust flew everywhere, filling the vast yard.

Lai Jiayi blinked. The girl slowly opened her mouth without looking at Yaya.

"Did I make that guy mad?" The girl's voice was quiet and weak. One could hear it was slightly trembling.

Yaya instantly dashed toward Lai Jiayi and shook his head. "No, quack. It's simply because he had no business with you anymore, and Zhao Yun is waiting, quack– "

Yaya paused. The duck lowered his head and sighed.

'I can't tell if Zhao Yang is mad or not. But, you see...I also don't understand what's going on, ah?? Like– what...why the hell the atmosphere is so emo out of the blue?!'

"...he is weird. That guy is weird," Lai Jiayi suddenly mumbled. The girl walked around her place as she looked at Yaya.

"Don't you think he is a bit out of his mind? Like– I don't understand what's going on in his mind! We were just talking about why he avoided me and now…"

Lai Jiayi stopped. The girl squatted out of the blue, making Yaya have to fly lower.

"Don't overthink, quack. Zhao Yang must be shocked, seeing you cry, quack. Maybe he doesn't know what to do…" Yaya landed on Lai Jiayi's shoulder.

"Anyone would be surprised if they see a girl cry out of the blue, quack."

Lai Jiayi narrowed her eyes and lowered her head. The girl hugged her knees as she kept squatting.

"Mmm. I thought so. But why the heck I feel like– he is mad? Or sad? Don't know. This is crazy." Lai Jiayi pulled her hair as she looked up at the orange sky.

"Our plan was just to make him cry. But in the end, I'm the one crying! Then, he suddenly sounded like he's mad or sad, or maybe both. This– ugh." Lai Jiayi closed her eyes, letting the wind touch her forehead.

"I'm beat. I really...don't know why Zhao Yang was like that. Was it such a big deal to see me cry?"

"Hmmm...maybe Zhao Yang thinks that you cry because of his words, quack?" Yaya suddenly spoke. "He was using quite a harsh tone, quack…"

'Well, that's just to gloss over his nervousness, though.'

Lai Jiayi blinked. The girl paused for a second before clapping her hands together.

"Ah, so that's it! Isn't this a misunderstanding then?" Lai Jiayi rolled her eyes. "I can just tell him tomorrow that I'm crying because I got dust in my eyes, though."

'So he won't misunderstand me.'

"Good idea, quack. I feel bad for him, quack. He looks like he is in a dilemma. He doesn't know what to do when you cry, quack." Yaya nodded.

Lai Jiayi couldn't help but rub her chin. She subconsciously narrowed her eyes.

"So, that's why Zhao Yang sounded sad. He must think that he makes me cry. Ugh, that's so like him."

"Yes, quack. That's my guess, quack. In my opinion, Zhao Yang is really someone who often blames himself, quack." Yaya shook his head.

"You know that he is still blaming himself for the accident his girlfriend went through, right, quack?"

Lai Jiayi slowly stood up while nodding. "Yeah, he talked about that when he went to the bar last week. We were eavesdropping on his conservation– "

Lai Jiayi halted. The girl looked at Yaya with a blank face. "Hey, today is...Friday, right?"

"Yes, quack."

"Then, he will go to the bar again?" Lai Jiayi instantly recalled Tan Xinya's appearance. The woman she met at the supermarket.

"He will, quack. Why?" Yaya tilted his head.

"Look, won't Tan Xinya try to make Zhao Yang cry too? But since we have failed…" Lai Jiayi twisted her toes.

She looked at Yaya with a dark face.

'I don't want that girl to win this event, ah! If I don't win then...no one should win.'

"Hey, the wire tape we got last week can still be used, right?" Lai Jiayi dusted off her pants as she asked.

"You can, quack. The limit is tonight, midnight, quack."

Lai Jiayi went silent as she walked to her bicycle. She only opened her mouth after a few seconds passed by.

"Then...should we tail Zhao Yang tonight?" The girl tugged the corner of her lips. She looked at Yaya with a crafty light flashing through her eyes.

….hm??

"What for, quack?? Remember, you can't interact with Zhao Yang outside your job shift, quack!" Yaya shuddered. He just got goosebumps.

'Jia...just what are you planning??'
