Chapter 62 - A Slap in the Face

Shangguan Ning didn’t feel like meeting with anyone, so she decided to get up and leave. Soon, she could tell who these visitors were. It was none other than Shangguan Rouxue, her sister. Shangguan Ning intended to leave but then thought to herself, that there was no need for her to hide. It was they who had made mistakes, and it should be they who should be embarrassed of making eye contact with her!

Shangguan Rouxue spotted her first and called out in surprise and joy, “Sister”. Then she came running to her.

“Sister, what are you doing here?”

The sweet face, the gentle voice as well as the expression of surprise and joy, showed no sign of deception.

However, the moment she stretched out her perfect pair of jade-like hands, she showed her true colours.

Within one moment, Shangguan Rouxue scratched Shangguan Ning’s arms with her finger nails. Shangguan Ning winced in pain and pushing Shangguan Rouxue away from herself, she asked angrily,” What are you doing, Shangguan Rouxue?”

Shangguan Rouxue’s slender body fell a distance away as she had been pushed away with such force. Her hair which had been beautifully done up, now fell over her face in an unkempt manner. She just continued to lie on the beach in a feeble manner.

Xie Zhuojun who was only at a slight distance, bellowed. “Xue!”

Then he dashed to her side, helped her stand up. Holding her in his arms, he asked with concern, “Xue, are you alright? Is everything fine?”

Shangguan Rouxue’s entire face went pale. She held her knees and whispered, as if speaking with a lot of effort, “Zhuojun, it hurts… so much!”

Xie Zhuojun moved her hand and saw that she had scraped her knees. There were traces of blood all over her hands, which were now bruised.

He was livid. So much so that the veins on his forehead,started to throb. He snapped, “Are you a maniac, Shangguan Ning?! How can you hurt your own sister?”

Shangguan Ning no longer felt the pain of the wound on her arms.That was because her deep dislike for Xie Zhuojun bothered her even more .

Someone once said that the deeper your love, the deeper your hatred would be.

Shangguan Ning didn’t agree with this. Sometimes hatred continued to accumulate even when love was long gone.

Just like now, when she was facing Xie Zhuojun. She was certain that she had no feelings for him whatsoever. However, she started to hate him even more.

She hated him for humiliating her and choosing to believe everyone else. She hated him for taking advantage of her, when she was naive, in the past.

Even if he didn’t have any love or affection towards her, he should’ve at least felt some gratitude. After all, she was the one who saved his life, took care of him and helped him. But he felt none of all this. Instead he had continued to hurt her constantly by being someone else’s shoulder to cry on.

Shangguan Ning hated herself too. Why had she saved his life ? Why had she nurtured him back to health? Was it so that he could humiliate her and hurt her today ?

She was disgusted with herself, but it was not her fault.

Therefore, she went up to Xie Zhuojun ,who was still holding Shangguan Rouxue in his arms. Without a moment’s hesitation, she slapped him right in the face, as hard as she could, while all he could do was continue to stare at her in astonishment.

Although her palm hurt, Shangguan Ning felt much better.

Shangguan Rouxue had never expected that Shangguan Ning,who was usually of a gentle temperament, would slap someone. And that too, none other than Xie Zhuojun. The man that she had never been able to forget.

She let out a heart-breaking cry, “Zhuojun!” and started to cry.

Everyone would be moved by her gentle and pitiful appearance, and her tears would melt mountains.

Xie Zhuojun wiped away her tears and comforted her. He then spoke in a spiteful tone, “It is okay. Don’t cry. This is what I owed her! From this day on, we owe her nothing!”

The wounds in Shangguan Ning’s heart had become completely numb. She sneered at hearing these words, “One slap on the face for a lifetime of deceit? Xie Zhuojun, your life must have been really worthless!”

“Shangguan Ning! Stop your sarcastic remarks! Do as you wish with me, but don’t you dare touch Xue in future, otherwise I will forget that you are Xue’s sister and that there was love between us in the past!”– he said furiously. No one dared to lay a hand on him, even when he was a child. No one dared to slap him, the heir of Family Xie!

But Shangguan Ning did!

Shangguan Ning wasn’t like this before. She had totally changed!

But maybe it was like what he had said – He owed that much to her. So maybe he shouldn’t be upset about this incident.

In all honesty,it had been he who had betrayed Shangguan Ning. All she had done to him,was to slap him in the face. If that slap could drive away her bitterness, then he would gladly accept it.

Xie Zhuojun looked up at Shangguan Ning standing in front of him. He suddenly realized that this young girl, who hadn’t ever worn makeup and who didn’t know how to dress well, had now become a tall, slender beauty.

The red-white swimming suit outlined the wonderful shape of her body. Her flawless skin and face looked fresh and beautiful without any makeup. Her sensuous breasts, her thin waist, her long legs – everything about her was so eye-catching.

He liked girls with petite body frames and delicate features.These kind of women were so pretty. They brought out a strong desire, in a man, to want to protect and take care of them. Shangguan Rouxue was one such woman.

Shangguan Ning was 168 cm in height, a relatively tall girl . Besides, she didn’t know how to dress like a lady. In Xie Zhuojun’s eyes, there was nothing effeminate about a woman who couldn’t dress well.

But he was taken aback at the sight of Shangguan Ning’s transformation.

She stood there with her chin up, lofty and arrogant, her body in an indescribable perfect proportion. She looked so good that people around her couldn’t help noticing her, excitedly.

Xie Zhuojun felt that there was a huge difference between the woman in his memory and the woman who stood in front of him.

Shangguan Ning didn’t notice Xie Zhuojun’s gaze. She would never have expected that Xie Zhuojun would have stared at another woman’s legs while his beloved was in his arms.

She was very hurt by his words. What did he mean when he said –”Otherwise I’ll forget that we ever had love between us in the past.

Since when had he ever considered their past love?

She said sharply, “I don’t need your past love or your consideration. As long as you don’t behave crazily, I would be thankful to God. I came to this beach before you, so please leave and take your woman with you!”

Both Xie Zhuojun and Shangguan Rouxue couldn’t help but stare in amazement. Since when did Shangguan Ning start standing up for herself?

Since when did she become so entitled that she insisted that they leave the beach!

In the meanwhile, Shangguan Rouxue noticed a change in Xie Zhuojun’s outlook towards Ning.She didn’t care about why Shangguan Ning was behaving so unlike herself today. The only person she cared about, was Xie Zhuojun.

She shivered in Xie Zhuojun’s arms and let out a soft cry. “It hurts so much…”

Xie Zhuojun was immediately distracted. He said “Hang on, Xue! I will take you for a check up!”

He carried Shangguan Rouxue in his arms, and was about to leave when Yang Wenshu came running towards them and stopped them.

Her eyes welled up at the sight of blood on her daughter’s knees. With tears trickling down her face, she asked her daughter,”What happened, Xue? How did you hurt yourself ?”
