Shangguan Ning could recognize her as soon as she saw her, even though she stood at a distance.
She was the woman in Jing Yichen’s work of art but she lacked the innocence that the girl in the painting had. She was older now but way more beautiful than the girl in the picture.
The visitor didn’t feel out of place, even when she was in the spotlight and surrounded by so many people. Instead, she waved to the crowd and smiled gracefully.
She looked aristocratic. She behaved exactly how a President’s wife would behave. She politely nodded and greeted all the employees of Jingsheng Enterprise.
Shangguan Ning was unhappy, but she wasn’t the only one who felt this way. Some female employees were so upset that Jing Yichen was to marry soon, that they jeered and swore at the lady. It was hilarious to see them behave so irrationally, showing even stronger emotion than Shangguan Ning who was his real wife.
The commotion was getting out of hand. Mi Xiaoxiao jabbed her elbow into Shangguan Ning’s arm and whispered, “Shangguan, don’t you think the woman resembles you?”
Shangguan Ning didn’t speak for a few moments and then said stiffly, “No, she doesn’t.”
“Well, I think she does. Both of you are tall, slender and beautiful. You both look gorgeous and give out a vibe that makes you irresistible!”
Hearing her words, Shangguan Ning felt that her heart had been soaked in freezing water of winter, chilling fiercely.
Shangguan Ning surveyed the woman standing in the lobby, once again. Her hair fell over her shoulders and she was dressed in a sapphire blue dress, which complimented her radiant beauty and slender body.
Although she didn’t want to admit it, but Mi Xiaoxiao was right. They did resemble each other in their physical attributes.
This realisation made her shiver.
Mi Xiaoxiao, who was still holding her arms, instantly sensed her discomfort. She couldn’t help but ask, “Are you sick, Shangguan? You look terrible! I will take you to the hospital. Don’t be stubborn.”
Shangguan Ning shook her head and said, “It’s okay. I am fine. Let’s just go back inside.”
Mi Xiaoxiao had wanted to see how the suspense played out and if the lady would indeed be allowed into the President’s office. Shangguan Ning’s discomfort forced her to sacrifice her own penchant for drama and accompany her upstairs.
Anyway, soon it would be common knowledge whether or not the President acknowledged her as his fiancée through the gossip spread around by the colleagues.
Shangguan Ning felt much better after going upstairs. She sat down and Mi Xiaoxiao forced her to some hot black tea.
After a while, word was out that the woman wasn’t allowed to visit the 76thfloor. Most employees were amused, while the young women were joyous. They all gossiped, wondering what sort of a fiancée was this woman if the President’s personal assistant didn’t even allow her to visit his office.
One employee even went so far as to say “What is so great about this woman anyway? She’s only marginally better looking than me. How could she be our President’s fiancée? Is there a dearth of pretty looking women in our office? It can’t be helped that our President is so indifferent. He has even overlooked Assistant Shangguan, the prettiest employee in our company.”
“If she really was the President’s fiancée then how did she not know that the President was out of office. What a loss of face.”
“I bet that she is here to show us who’s the boss.”
While the rest of her colleagues continued gossiping, Shangguan Ning clutched onto the tea cup and didn’t get up until she felt better. She walked out of the Public Relations Department, and went up to the 76th floor.
Apart from Jing Yichen and nine deputy presidents, only Lu Qing and Shangguan Ning had the card to the 76th floor. They were permitted to enter and leave the premises at their own will.
Shangguan Ning was a girl with courage. Her heart was aching fiercely at this moment, but she didn’t want to turn a deaf ear to this affair.
After all, even if she couldn’t enter this time, Jing Yichen would let her in next time.
She was upset but she had to be professional. She walked into Lu Qing’s office, and said in a calm tone, “Assistant, someone is asking for the President. She’s waiting downstairs. She must be an old friend of the President. Should we let her up?”
Lu Qing looked up and couldn’t mask his surprise.
How did Shangguan Ning know that Tang Yun was an old friend of Jing Yichen?
She had been gone for ten years and hadn’t returned until today. It was practically impossible for Shangguan Ning to know about her. Lu Qing was sure that the President wouldn’t have mentioned Tang Yun.
In fact, no one in the entire Family Jing ever spoke about Tang Yun. She was a familiar face, ten years ago but no one knew of her recent whereabouts.
Lu Qing replied indifferently, “I have asked the President about it. It is the President’s order that she shouldn’t be allowed upstairs.”
This time it was Shangguan Ning’s turn to be surprised.
How come?
Didn’t Jing Yichen say that no stone should be left unturned, to ensure her comfort. Then how come she wasn’t allowed to enter the office?
Ignoring her expressions, Lu Qing pulled out a pile of documents from the shelf and handed them over to her. “These are the documents that the President brought back from his business trip. Sort them out and put them in order.”
Shangguan Ning took the documents to her own office and started to sort them.
She flipped through some pages and was shocked at the contents.
These documents were actually part of a report. They had to do with the main business of Jingsheng Enterprise, based out of Africa. They described in detail, the ongoing crisis that was faced by Jingheng Enterprise. There were notes and remarks on every page. This was Jingheng’s writing. Ning could tell because she’d learnt at least that much by now.
Many documents bore a date and time stamp. Shagguan Ning could see how hectic his work had been over the last few days. Within a time span of four days, he had visited more than ten countries. South Africa, Namibia, Morocco, Zimbabwe to name a few.
She couldn’t imagine that he had finished so much work in four days time. He had not only finished reading the documents but had also made notes. For a lay man, even reading these documents would take a week, leave alone making notes
It was obvious from these documents that Jing Yichen had slept for only a couple of hours each night. His meal time mustn’t have exceeded a few minutes.
He had worked as long as 21 hours, every single day!
