Chapter 152 - I Won’t Help You, Father!

Shangguan Zheng was discharged from the hospital a couple of days later.

He had always been healthy, and he wouldn’t have passed out if he hadn’t got overly furious.

Therefore, he only stayed at the hospital for a couple of days for recovery.

The moment he left the hospital, he went straight to Landscape Compound and asked for Shangguan Ning. After being informed that she was not at home, he drove to the office building of Jingsheng Enterprise.

In the guest room of Jingsheng Enterprise, Shangguan Ning asked in surprise. “What are you doing here?”

Wasn’t he in hospital a couple of days ago? And now he was completely fine?

Sitting on the black leather sofa of the guest room, Shangguan Zheng looked exhausted and pale as if he hadn’t slept for one night.

“Tell Jing Yichen to do something so that I can become the Mayor of A City!”

He sounded very harsh, just like he usually did. He didn’t consider Shangguan Ning as someone important. He always thought that she was his daughter and whatever he requested of her was reasonable.

Shangguan Ning almost laughed at his seemingly reasonable and serious attitude.

Whether Jing Yichen was able to help him take over the Mayor’s position of A City was not the issue at the moment. His attitude of not regarding her as the daughter had made her lose all the interest of helping him.

She said coldly, “You only think of me when you are unable to go a step higher, right? I don’t think that I am your daughter. I am just a tool for you to get promoted and earn money! Is the official position so important that you would even abandon your wife and your daughter?”

Shangguan Zheng heavily put down the cup on the tea table and said furiously. “What bullshit are you saying? If I am the Mayor, both you and Jing Yichen would benefit from me. Just say it out straight if you don’t want to help. Have I brought you up in vain? The chair of Mayor would have been mine if you were half as obedient as Xue!”

“Then you better go and find the obedient Xue. I am incapable of offering any help. See you!”

Having said the words, Shangguan Ning turned around and was about to walk away when his next words stopped her.

Shangguan Zheng bellowed. “Stop! Have I told you to leave? I am your father, not your enemy. Come back here and talk to me!”

Shangguan Ning’s hands were tightly clenched, and her heart ached so much. So he knew that he was a father, not her enemy.

Then why did he keep doing what an enemy did?

What kind of father was he to have sold her daughter without feeling any sense of guilt?

Was his heart carved out of rock?

They were just glaring at each other when the door of the guest room opened and Jing Yichen walked in.

Seeing his wife’s pale face, Jing Yichen got furious. “Deputy Mayor, I recall having told you that if there is any issue, come to me directly and leave my wife alone. But it seems that you haven’t paid any heed to those words. Maybe you need to be brought down by a couple of levels.”

Shanggua Zheng stiffened upon hearing Jing Yichen’s words.

He knew clearly that Jing Yichen had the ability of helping him to get promoted, but he also had the ability of depriving him of the same.

He was the President of Jingsheng Enterprise and the heir of Family Jing. SShangguan Zheng couldn’t behave like he normally did and order him to do anything as a father-in-law. He didn’t have enough power to do so.

Had it not been Shangguan Ning, he might not even have had the chance of standing so close to Jing Yichen, and ask him to help in his promotion.

When he had met Jing Zhongxiu earlier in his life, he had stressed because of the lack of power against someone like him. How could someone like a Deputy Mayor fight against somebody so influential. So he had made up his mind to climb much higher and be able to trample over everyone, make them look up to him.

But after struggling for half of his life, he was still a measly Deputy Mayor. He was not even able to reach the position of the Mayor.

Shangguan Ning didn’t want to see her husband meeting her father in this way and discuss such a topic. But what else could she do other than this?

Even if she asked Jing Yichen to help him get hold of the Mayor position, Shangguan Zheng would not be satisfied by just that. He would become more eager to climb higher and put forward even more unreasonable requests.

Jing Yichen trusted her and protected her whole-heartedly. Anyone else would have thought that her family was too vain and would have probably looked down upon her.

Whenever Shangguan Zheng did this kind of thing, he never considered her feelings and circumstances. The only thing he cared about was his own interest!

Shangguan Ning spoke haltingly, “Father, just go home. I won’t ask Yichen for help and he won’t do it either. If you are capable enough, just compete with others in a fair manner. You will never win if you keep using underhand methods.”

Shangguan Zheng shivered furiously. He almost went crazy when his wish of so many years went up in smoke. Without thinking, he raised his hand to slap Shangguan Ning. He wanted to teach this unfilial daughter a lesson!

But Jing Yichen got hold of his half raised hand in the air.

He stared at Shangguan Zheng with cold eyes and spoke without emotions. “Seems that Deputy Mayor doesn’t know my personality well enough. I mean whatever I ever say. Soon, you will no longer be the Deputy Mayor, just go home and wait for the message. If you don’t want it to worsen, then do as I said earlier – do not trouble my wife, henceforth! She is no longer your daughter. Now she is my wife, and the lady of Jingsheng Enterprise. She is in a higher position and you are not qualified enough to order her to do anything for your sake!”

Shangguan Zheng never expected that his spontaneous impulse would cost him the Deputy Mayor position that he had worked so hard to achieve!

He went pale and was about to say something, but Jing Yichen dragged Shangguan Ning out of the guest room, leaving no chance for him to say anything more.

Shangguan Zheng came home in depression and saw Shangguan Rouxue massaging her belly whilst talking with Yang Wenshu happily.

“… will my belly get too big for the dress to fit at the wedding?”

Something clicked inside Shangguan Zheng’s brain. He had one more daughter to help when the other didn’t want to!

Family Xie had helped him to get the Deputy Mayor, and they would help him at least keep the current official position if he couldn’t get the Mayor position.

Shangguan Rouxue was now pregnant with Xie Zhuojun’s child, who was Xie Dongfeng’s grandchild!

His daughter had made such a great contribution to their family and it was Xie Dongfeng’s obligation to show some gratitude.

Hahahah! There was always a way out of a desperate situation.

The best thing he ever did in his life was to have brought up two beautiful daughters. And now, it was time for them to pay him back!

When he becomes even more powerful, Shangguan Ning, who refused to help him today, would beg him some day!
