Chapter 221 - A High Level Deputy-President

Shangguan Ning’s heart ached when she heard her saying, “Now I have a surname too”. She replied softly, “Yes, you are henceforth called Shangguan Lu, a very nice name.”

Lu ran out with the chocolate box and cried out loudly. “Uncle Lu, I have my own name now. My surname is Shangguan, same as Sister Shangguan. I am no longer an orphan. Hahaha!”

Jing Yiran, who was bending over the office door and was busy thinking about ways to get in, didn’t realise when the door opened. His high-bridge nose banged against the door, and blood gushed out of it.

“Lu, you violent woman! Didn’t you see that I am here? My nose is broken because of you.” Jing Yiran bellowed furiously. But Lu dashed past him all the way to Lu Qing’s office.

Seeing Jing Yiran’s unkempt hair and the way he was bleeding, Shangguan Ning suddenly felt very happy in her heart.

It seemed as if Lu was Jing Yiran’s nemesis.

Could Jing Zhongxiu have arranged Lu to be her assistant to defend her against Jing Yiran?

Shangguan Ning had guessed wrong. Lu wasn’t placed by her side to protect her against Jing Yiran, because he was not worth Lu’s attention. Lu had someone more powerful and dangerous to deal with.

Jing Yichen, who had just finished his business affairs in the neighbouring city, came to pick his wife up from work at 5 that evening.

Shangguan Ning had just walked out of the office gate and looked at him in astonishment. “You are back so early!” She had thought that he needed to stay for two more days for the talk.

“Yes, it went well and finished early.” Jing Yichen said calmly. He helped Shangguan Ning to get into the car before going to his side.

Actually, Jing Yichen managed to come back home early because he had wrapped up the collaboration, negotiation and implementation, all in one day’s time.

He didn’t feel reassured without having Shangguan Ning in sight.

The scene when the bullet hit them, had left such a deep impression on him that he still felt a bit scared.

Seeing Shangguan Ning well, he let out a sigh of relief.

He spoke cheerfully as he drove, “Met Lu?”

“Yes, I did.” Shangguan Ning nodded and asked hesitantly, “Is Lu really fit to be my assistant? She is strong but she looks just like a child. I won’t face any danger at the office every day. We don’t need her as my bodyguard there.”

Lu looked like a young sister. Ning didn’t feel comfortable in hiring her as her bodyguard.

“It is okay. Lu can do anything. Just ask her to do it. Don’t think too much.” Jing Yichen understood that Shangguan Ning felt reluctant to keep Lu as her bodyguard.

So he explained it to her softly, “Your safety is the most important thing. My heart can only be assured with Lu besides you. She is very capable, barring her childish mind. Don’t think of her as a young woman but as your bodyguard. Father has entrusted you to her care. That should be enough for you to place your trust in her.”

Lu was actually Jing Zhongxiu’s employee. Although she did what Jing Yichen told her to, she still obeyed Jing Zhongxiu, first and foremost. Despite her child-like appearance, Jing Zhongxiu had never regarded her as a child. He hadn’t shown any fatherly love to Lu as he did to Shangguan Ning. He treated her distantly.

Lu didn’t live at Family Jing. Instead, she was always flitting from one place to another. When she got tired, she went and stayed at Lu Qing’s home. Lu Qin’s wife was a virtuous woman and regarded Lu as her own daughter. Although Lu was not fully developed in mind, yet she knew who treated her well and who didn’t. So she liked living at Lu Qing’s home and Lu Qing also treated her as a daughter.

Jing Yichen knew enough about Lu. Her response time was pretty fast and her fist packed a solid punch.

Though Lu travelled a lot but this time she had stayed away for almost half a year. Everyone was used to her disappearance, so no one worried too much when she came back intact.

Seeing that Jing Yichen insisted on taking her in, Shangguan Ning didn’t say anything more.

She liked Lu. She felt that the office would become more cheerful with her around. Also, she could deal with Jing Yiran well. What a good weapon to deal with this maniac.

Speaking of Lu, Shangguan Ning unavoidably thought of her being promoted to the position of Deputy President.

“Yichen, why did you give me such a high position? I guess I can start from a Director. I have learnt a great deal from the other departments during the past six months, but I don’t think that I am suitable to become the Deputy President yet.”

It had just been six months. If someone had told her that she could be the Deputy President of Jingsheng Enterprise, she would have thought that the man must be joking.

But it did happen.

Jing Yichen said confidently, “My wife, what else would you be if not the Deputy President of the Enterprise? You are not only going to be the Deputy President, you are also going to be the most powerful one among all of them. Even I, the President, will need to obey you. Who else dare not?”

Shangguan Ning looked at him helplessly.

She said anxiously, “There are many business affairs of the company which I don’t know about. The other people wouldn’t listen to me if I end up saying something wrong in my inexperience. I guess I can start from the fundamental position and be the deputy-president when the time comes. Father has made such an impulsive decision. I am not ready yet.”

“I think father has made the right decision. You were not ready when I married you, were you? But six months have passed and we are so compatible. If we got married when you would be ready, it would have taken ages. So it doesn’t matter if you are not ready. You will get used to the position when you are there. Don’t worry, I am with you after all. From tomorrow on, I will take you to attend the business meetings alongwith. This way, I won’t miss you as well. What a good idea.”

That would also save him from all the unwanted attention from other women. No one would dare to flirt with him if Shangguan Ning was along.

“Enough shop talk for now. Let’s go to the hospital.”
