“Grandpa has brewed only six bottles of wine, right? Four are already with your family. Am I not even allowed to take one single sip from them? I grew up watching these bottles, and I am the heir of Family Mu. So how come I am given none of the bottles? I must have a taste of what it is like.”
Mu Wensheng had brewed the bottles of medicinal wine for more than two decades. The 30-year old Mu Qing wasn’t lying about growing up watching these bottles.
When he was young, he had been told that the bottles contained precious things and that he was not allowed to touch them. He had watched the wine change its color from light white, to pure white, to light yellow, to darker yellow until after two decades, the colors of the wine finally became that of flowing gold.
Mu Qing had tasted the other medicinal wines which Grandpa Mu brewed. He had grown up drinking all kinds of these wines, so he was healthy and strong, possessing an excellent immune system, antitoxic ability and cells regeneration and more.
But he had not taken even a single sip of this medicinal wine, and had been drooling for so long. This one couldn’t be compared with all the other wines.
Zhao Anan was also fond of the good things in life. Hearing that Mu Qing wanting to drink the medicinal wine at any cost, she guessed that it must be a very precious thing. So she demanded. “Me too! Bring it out! No hiding!”
Jing Yichen disapproved. “Stay away from us. You two are not smart enough and it would be a waste to drink it. Go home and drink cold water instead. You two are fit for that useless thing only.”
He was truly lethal in delivering blows to people.
But Mu Qing and Zhao Anan were used to his barbs, because both of them had grown up under the shade of Jing Yichen’s intelligence. They didn’t care about what he said, because after all, it was true. They were not as smart as Jing Yichen.
But, what did drinking wine have anything to do with intelligence?
They were not smart enough, but they could be more shameless than him.
They would stay and badger these two till they got what they wanted.
Shangguan Ning helplessly watched Mu Qing and Zhao Anan standing in the way, babbling about taking a sip of the “immortal wine”– that was what Mu Qing called the liquor.
“Yichen, we have two bottles here. Give some to them to have a taste!” Shangguan Ning couldn’t stand it any more, so she also turned to Jing Yichen and begged him.
Jing Yichen slapped his forehead and turned to her helplessly. “Honey, can you not be so generous? These two bottles are worth one billion yuan and one sip would be worth hundreds of millions. Can’t we just take it slow in finishing the drink? Mu Qing is just pretending, don’t be fooled by him. He has been drinking numerous kinds of medicinal wines since he was young. Even, I am not as physically strong as he is!”
“Oh really?” Shangguan Ning blinked. But she still felt sorry for Mu Qing. Also, Grandpa Mu was the original owner of the wine and he might have thought about passing it down to this grandson before they took it away. He should have the right to take at least one sip.
After a lot of badgering, Jing Yichen got so impatient that he brought out the wine and spoke with a frown, “Only one sip!”
Mu Qing got so excited at the sight of the flowing gold liquid that he had no idea where to put his hands.
Zhao Anan also stared at the bottle excitedly – she had never heard about this beautiful wine.
Mu Qing had even brought a measuring cup from the hospital.
The moment the lid was removed, the fragrance spread around making all four of them feel relaxed and happy.
He took out the little measuring cup from his pocket and poured five ml from the bottle carefully. Although Jing Yichen was the owner, Mu Qing didn’t want to pour extra. It would be a waste if he drank too much at one time. He had no intention of ruining the drink. It was an achievement done by his grandpa and had taken more than two decades. He had risked his life to bring some of the ingredients from forests and some of them were bought off from auctions. It was a precious thing, much more expensive than gold.
Mu Qing’s fingers trembled out of excitement. It was the wine which he had been watching for twenty years now.
And today, he finally got to have a taste of it.
Mu Qing held the wine below his nose for a long time and then poured the gold-color liquid into his mouth, slowly.
The taste spread over his tongue, making Mu Qing feel fascinated and pleased.
It was indeed different from the young medical wines that he had been drinking.
There was nothing like this in the entire world. He wanted to drink up the remaining bottle after that one sip.
He licked the measuring cup thoroughly, making Zhao Anan frown.
“Hey, can’t you behave a bit decently? How am I supposed to drink from the measuring cup which you have licked?”
Mu Qing looked at her and his happy mood gradually disappeared. He said with a dark expression. “Not you, Anan.”
Zhao Anan didn’t understand what he meant. She screamed. “Why not me? The wine smells so nice and it must be so tasty. I want to drink it too! What are you being so stingy when the wine is not even yours.”
Shangguan Ning didn’t understand either why Mu Qing said so. But she knew pretty well that Mu Qing wasn’t being stingy. He had never been miserly towards Zhao Anan.
“The wine is too nutritious and stimulating. You are not supposed to drink it.” Mu Qing sounded a bit sad, but still wore his usual smile.
Zhao Anan understood instantly.
Earlier, she had cancer cells in her body. So, she was not supposed to eat anything with extra nutrients. She could eat or drink any normal nutritious thing, but this wine was full of ginseng and herbs of thousands of years, which might cause a return of the cancer after a patient had recovered from the treatment.
That was why Mu Qing didn’t want to give her a sip.
Zhao Anan stiffened slightly but then recovered and smiled happily.
Both Shangguan Ning and Jing Yichen also understood why Zhao Anan wasn’t allowed to drink it.
Zhao Anan didn’t look like a woman with any sickness. She looked healthy and happy, so no one treated her as a patient or remembered the history of her illness.
