Shangguan Ning and Zhao Anan greeted Zhu Ruotong with a smile as they sized her up, secretly.
Zhu Ruotong was dressed in a set of black casual clothes and had short hair. Her skin was bronze and she had excellent facial features. Her lips were plump and her black eyes were sharp, making her look like a qualified soldier.
She resembled Zheng Jing in some ways. Maybe that was because she was a police officer as well.
Zhu Ruotong greeted Shangguan Ning and Zhao Anan and then turned to Zheng Lun. “Hi, they call you Lun, can I call you by that name too?”
Zheng Lun stood there still, looking just like a doll that had lost the soul. She had no reaction towards what Zhu Ruotong said.
Zhu Ruotong frowned.
Shangguan Ning tried to drag Zheng Lun back but she didn’t respond. She let out a short cough and showed a very insincere smile and explained to Zhu Ruotong as if trying to cover up something. “Eh… well, Lun is a bit sensitive to strangers. She will get better when you spend more time together!”
Zhu Ruotong looked relieved as she said smilingly, “It is okay.”
But she was confused inside. Sensitive to strangers? She was not a child!
Also, Shangguan Ning was apparently trying to put up a show. She was a police officer and she could tell if a person was telling the truth or not. She understood people.
Shangguan Ning didn’t care either if Zhu Ruotong could tell if she was trying to cover it up. Zhu Ruotong was a calm and rational woman who would soon discover Zheng Lun’s secret, because even Shangguan Ning had been able to see the truth over one meal. She truly believed that an excellent policeman like Zhu Ruotong would discover this secret sooner.
She pinched hard at Zheng Lun’s waist, trying to wake her up.
But Zheng Lun turned out to be completely absent-minded!
Shangguan Ning let out a sigh inside her heart – Zheng Lun was just too deeply involved.
Shangguan Ning tried to keep the situation down, because she didn’t want to expose Zheng Lun too early. But Zhao Anan had no idea about how to keep the situation down.
She walked forward and gave a pat upon Zheng Jing’s shoulders. Then she looked him up from head to feet and snorted. “Well, well, Zheng Jing, I didn’t expect that you are faithless enough to have a woman both inside and outside the home. Tell me, when did you guys get together? And how far have you gone? When do you guys plan to break up?”
Her words were getting very aggressive. She talked as if Zheng Jing were some scumbag.
Zheng Jing’s face went dark after hearing what she said.
What did she mean by one inside home and outside home?
He had no woman either inside or outside, alright?
And when he brought his girlfriend home, she even dared to ask about when they were going to break up?
Honestly, this girl was simply brainless! Only Mu Qing was able to tolerate her!
Zheng Jing would have thrown Zhao Anan out, if he had not known her for a long time.
But Zhu Ruotong looked calm standing next to Zheng Jing. She had figured out the truth within a few seconds.
So the woman inside the home was none other than his sister, Zheng Lun.
Shangguan Ning and Zhao Anan were silly women who had underestimated their rival’s brain and analysis ability. They lost the battle within a few seconds.
In fact they had carried the stones to smash their own feet.
Mrs. Zheng was helping around in the kitchen with the servant. After they finished making more dishes and came out of the kitchen, everyone else was still standing at the door.
She spotted a woman holding onto her son’s arms and got happy. She ran to the door in excitement. “Son, this girl is your girlfriend?”
Zheng Jing nodded and then introduced them to each other.
Zhu Ruotong had a slight smile on the face and said, “Greeting, Aunt, I am so sorry I haven’t brought any gift to you this time. We will make it up to you the next time I am here.”
Mrs. Zheng laughed happily. It was the first time for her son to bring a girlfriend home. He was a mature and steady man who would not bring a girl home unless their relationship was more or less fixed.
“I am already very happy now that you are here. No need for any present, come and take a seat!” She said as she showed the girl in and said to the servant at home, “Aunt Wu, one more set of chopsticks!”
Mrs. Zheng walked in first, followed by Zheng Jing and Zhu Ruotong. Shangguan Ning with the other two girls were the only left at the door. A long while later, Zheng Lun came back to her senses.
But she looked terrible. Her red lips had turned white and her face turned pale.
Zheng Jing quietly glanced back at her.
The way his sister looked broke his heart. But he could do nothing but to allow her to get sad.
He had brought Zhu Ruotong home today, because he expected that Shangguan Ning and Zhao Anan could at least console her so that she wouldn’t get overwhelmed.
Zheng Lun ate little food and claimed that she was feeling unwell and went upstairs to rest.
Shangguan Ning and Zhao Anan also put down the chopsticks and followed her.
But soon, they were driven out. Zheng Lun didn’t want to talk to anybody and she didn’t allow them to enter the room.
It got very weird around the table without Zheng Lun.
Shangguan Ning and Zhao Anan were guests of Zheng Lun who wasn’t at the table. When Zheng Jing found that his sister was not around, the delicious dishes tasted like chewing wax and he had to force himself to smile by talking with Shangguan Ning and Zhao Anan as if everything was normal. After all, they were Zheng Lun’s guests who had been deserted by the hostess. What was more, when Zheng Lun was a guest at Shangguan Ning and Zhao Anan’s homes, they had had a great time together.
This was his fault. If he had not brought Zhu Ruotong home, then everyone would have been cheerful.
Zhu Ruotong, as a matter of fact, didn’t care about Zheng Lun’s absence. She had a good appetite and kept eating and praised Mrs. Zheng for her great cooking skills.
Mrs. Zheng was indeed happy. She kept giving her food whilst prying about her family background and work. She was treating her as seriously as her potential daughter-in-law.
As a matter of fact, Mrs. Zheng was not that happy either, because she knew pretty well what her daughter was thinking. She had brought up her daughter and knew how she felt about Zheng Jing.
But she regarded Zheng Lun as her daughter and she couldn’t possibly allow her to be with her son. They were siblings in her eyes!
It worried her a great deal.
