Her original intention had not been to cut her parents’ heads off. She had hated them for treating her like an object, but she meant to kill them only to survive.
Unfortunately, her body had been transformed by the virus, and without using force for half a year, she had no idea how powerful she could be.
She cut their throats with a knife, but her strength was out of control. With just a little force, the heads were removed.
As the blood splashed over her face and her body, she got so frightened that she passed out.
When she woke up again, she found herself at her uncle’s house.
There was another man present there whom she did not recognise. It was not until later did she get to know that the man was her uncle’s good friend, Jing Zhongxiu. It was Jing Zhongxiu who covered up her crime of killing her parents so that she avoided being taken away by the police.
Her uncle was also a researcher. Like her parents, he was also devoted to studying the virus that could transform mankind’s genes.
But unlike her parents, he used his own body as an experimental tool rather than his niece’s.
He tried his best to weaken the virus inside her body, so that her deteriorating physical condition could recover gradually. But a year later, her uncle died of the virus’s torment in his body.
Before he died, he left her well-being to the only man whom he trusted, Jing Zhongxiu.
At that time, she had already joined the killers’ camp, after arguing about it with her uncle. So he asked Jing Zhongxiu to take good care of her on the sly.
That she was able to survive in the camp and became the second best killer in the world was because, first of all, she was fit and had outstanding strength and intelligence, exceeding the rest of members at such a young age, and secondly, it was because Jing Zhongxiu was keeping her safe secretly.
Jing Zhongxiu kept her safe for a dozen years, simply because her uncle had asked him to do so on his deathbed.
He had done whatever he could, as a kind and sincere man.
She owed Family Jing big for landing Shangguan Ning and her child in danger.
She was not angry for having been used by Jing Yiran. What she was mad about was that he used her to hurt Shangguan Ning.
She had owed Jing Zhongxiu too much for her to repay ever, so she kept Shangguan Ning safe all the time. But she not only ended up failing to protect her but caused her harm as well.
Seeing Lu’s distant look, Jing Yiran found her like a bewildered child. He could not help but pat her back, treating her as the other Lu who was innocent and pure whilst saying softly, “Alright, it is fine. I am not asking any more.”
Jing Yiran had never pampered anyone in this way, and that made him curious. It seemed as if the stinging pain on his forehead did not feel that severe anymore.
Lu resurfaced from her past, and spoke in an unemotional voice, “It is fine. I have never regretted killing them. They deserved to die!”
Jing Yiran stared at this lethal and cruel woman in front of him.
He knew Lu well. He knew that she did have emotions, except that she knew how to hide them deep inside her heart. If her parents had not done something outrageous, she would not have killed them. She was cold and distant, yet she did not kill people without reason. Inside her heart, she was a pure girl.
“They were maniacs. They did not deserve to be parents. That was why I killed them. I was very young back then, and wasn’t psychologically mature. So I had nightmares every single day after their deaths. A month later, I started to show the symptoms of split personality with one of me stuck forever at 14years without any memory of what they had done whilst the other me was growing into an adult who bore all the pain and sin and started the career as a killer.”
Lu had never told anyone about her past. Maybe it was because she was injured today and felt weak, or maybe it was because Jing Yiran showed warmth towards her like no one had done before, so that she opened her heart and recounted everything to him.
Then she said finally, “I owe Jing Zhongxiu big, and I needed to do something to repay him. Though he may not need anything from me, but I am not like my crazy, ungrateful parents. I know how to be thankful!”
Jing Yiran was shocked by Lu’s incredible past. He was not able to figure how the young Lu went through all of this.
If it had been him, he would have killed his parents too.
Jing Yiran also knew what it meant for Lu to have left the Jing Family now.
Jing Yiran got a bit baffled. He took this girl who was scary and miserable into his arms, as the pain spread through his entire body.
If he had known that Lu would be thrown out of the Jing Family and become the target of all her old enemies, he would not have used her.
Injured, Lu did not take too long before falling asleep.
Jing Yiran, however, stayed awake throughout the night.
Early in the morning, Lu woke up and found herself in Jing Yiran’s arms with nothing other than the bed sheet.
She felt a bit uncomfortable but soon she became composed. She saw Jing Yiran staring at her with a strange look. “What is it?”
For the very first time in his life, Jing Yiran felt sympathy instead of desire towards a topless woman.
“Lu.” Jing Yiran sounded hoarse. He looked a bit tired with dark circles beneath his eyes. But he sounded determined. “No more killing from today on. Let’s go back to Family Jing. You can leave me, and go and lead a simple, steady life.”
Lu got a bit startled. She sat up with the sheet over her body and asked curiously, “What is it going on? Why must I return to Family Jing? I am doing fine. Also, Jing Yichen would not allow me to return, anyway.”
Without moving an inch, Jing Yiran said with a soft voice as he stared at Lu’s beautiful face. “I don’t want you to die. You must live well and be happy.”
He wanted Lu to return to Jing Zhongxiu’s protection. There, she would live longer. He was, after all, not worth Lu’s protection.
Startled, Lu found it difficult to utter any words.
There had been too many people in the world who wanted her to die, even her parents who did not care about her life. She had been afraid of death, but after being through so much, she showed no fear towards it.
But now, there was one person who did not want her to die and wished her a happy life.
She let out a sigh of relief inside her heart and said, “I do not want you to die either.”
