Reese remained unmoved, but King merely put on an expression that said he would not tell her if she did not come over to him.
With no other choice, Reese could only follow obediently.
King played with Reese’s hand with one of his hands and held the wisteria with his other.
“You can’t accept this flower from just anyone, and you can’t give it away to just anyone either. You can only give it to me, got it?”
Since Reese could not struggle against him, she decided to simply make herself comfortable as she nestled in his arms.
“But also, you can only accept it from me too. When the situation’s calmer in a few days, I’ll pluck a real flower for you.”
“Why?”
“Of course, a fake flower is not as charming as the real thing. Where we’re from, wisterias only grow at the peaks of mountains that are thousands of meters tall. Only true warriors can go up and pluck this flower.”
King was referring to the wisterias within the territory of the dragon species. It was very different from those which the ordinary werebeasts talked about. They grew in different places, grew in different ways, and even had different medicinal effects after being plucked.
“Because this flower represents a long, lasting love. The longer the flower, the longer the love will last.” King lowered and rested his chin on Reese’s head while gently stroking it.
Reese blushed at his words, and for a moment, she didn’t know how to react. She felt their bodies warming up as his breath fell upon her like a feather, tickling her.
On the other hand, King seemed to be unstirred, like he did not think much of it at all. “It’s similar to what you humans think of roses. However, the difference for us werebeasts is that once the flower is handed to the other party, it means that the two parties have become partners, and will always protect each other, until the day they die.”
He merely chose to leave out the fact that only the dragon species placed such a meaning on it. Plucking a wisteria was a feat, and finding someone suitable to be a life partner was all the rarer and more difficult to come by. Other races might be a little more casual about it, but a dignified dragon was always very careful and serious about finding the right partner.
Reese did not expect the flower to represent something so significant, nor did she expect this man behind her to be willing to give her this flower. Was this considered… a marriage proposal?
All of a sudden, the both of them fell silent, and neither of them spoke.
The air between the two of them was thick with an ambiguous tension.
“So, who gave you the wisteria?” In the end, it was King who couldn’t help but initiate the question.
“It’s just paper art,” Reese quickly denied. King clearly sounded jealous, and even without turning to look at him, she already knew that he was probably scowling. But, why should she be worried about that?
She was convinced that they had merely been ‘casual lovers.’ Hence, she told herself not to overthink.
“Yeah, I know,” King spoke in a sulking tone once again. “Reese Tate, stay away from him. And that werebeast who has always been following him around too, the one named Julie Smith. Stay away from her too.”
Reese did not expect to be called by her full name by King like that.
“I’m scared that I wouldn’t be able to save you in time if something happened to you while I’m away from the hospital.”
“Why would I need you to save me?”
Actually, she was slightly tempted to say—Who are you to me?
But since she did not say it aloud, King naturally did not know either.
“Julie Smith is actually the illegitimate daughter of a tycoon from a faraway planet. She killed a high-ranking official from another planet by mistake, hence she came in to avoid punishment.”
Reese finally understood, musing that this must be why the other werebeasts were always extolling her so obviously.
“I’m worried that if you provoke her and she gets really riled up, I won’t be able to save you in time.”
Reese let out a soft, “Mm.” His solemn advice was so similar to how when she was a young girl and had just started studying in school, her mother used to repeatedly teach her not to be bullied.
In her heart, she already had a good impression of King. He was lecherous and domineering, but everything that she went through so far had been resolved by him.
He felt very reliable.
King wrapped a hand around her waist. “And Reese, don’t think much of him being in suits all day. He’s just trying to fool young ladies like you.”
Then, he slapped her on the butt. “Understood?”
Reese was speechless. She was already a grown adult, yet she was still spanked by him. How shameful!
“What are you doing!”
She turned and looked at King with her eyes widened, hoping that he would feel a little guilty and understand that what he did was wrong.
But to King, the way this kitten widened her eyes was too cute.
He did not know if she was blushing from excitement or embarrassment, but under the light, he could even see her fine hairs… Suddenly, King remembered that during the time he was stationed on Earth for a mission, he had heard Earthly humans singing praises of their women, saying that they were just like tempting peaches.
For the first time, King felt that there was someone really noteworthy of such words. He couldn’t help but give her cheekbones a nibble. He had done it lightly, but Reese was nonetheless stupefied, as she had just been bitten while she was clearly still angry. She blinked her eyes several times, her lips slightly parting, and her pink, tender tongue inside could vaguely be seen.
King seized the moment to send his tongue into her mouth, wrapping around Reese’s own tongue and showing no intention of letting it go.
Reese still had some other questions to ask, but unfortunately, her struggle seemed more like a little game to King. He conquered her step by step, clouding her mind with his every push and pull.
Like a skilled hunter, he was enjoying the sight of his prey struggling but unable to escape. Together, they sunk into each other’s breaths..
