“Sure… but I don’t think they would have time during the day, what about dinner after work?”

“Sure…” Huo Mian smiled faintly.

She had been hospitalized at the military hospital for more than two weeks now…

The food was delicious, and the living conditions were amazing. The only thing was that she couldn’t go anywhere she wanted to; Su Yu needed to be there if she wanted to leave the hospital.

During this time, her friends came to visit here and there. However, to avoid drawing attention, Su Yu told them not to visit too frequently.

He didn’t want them to be caught by the media, or Huo Mian would be in big trouble… After all, she was still known to the public as a murderer…

Zhixin came to the hospital the most, almost every other day. Later, Huo Mian convinced him to go back to New Zealand and finish his studies.

Her mother, Yang Meirong, asked to come back to C City a couple of times, but Huo Mian managed to talk her out of it. The good news was, they could video-chat, or else Yang Meirong would’ve thought that something had happened to her daughter….

The next morning, Huo Mian woke up and began her simple day. After breakfast, she got her daily checkup. Once the doctor confirmed that everything was normal, she went back to her room and listened to music.

After lunch, she took a nap and then went for a walk. She lived a relaxed life, but the truth was, never once did she smile from the bottom of her heart.

“Miss Huo, I heard you’re a doctor as well,” the nurse that looked after her initiated a conversation as they strolled in the hospital’s back garden.

“Mhm, I’m a doctor now. I began working at a hospital after university, but I used to be a nurse.”

“Wow, that’s amazing, you’re like the role model of all nurses…”

“I’m really not… I’ve always been interested in medicine and mostly studied on my own. Most importantly, the hospital director was generous enough to give me a chance.”

At the thought of Director Wu, Huo Mian suddenly remembered South Side and her colleagues… It had been a while since she last saw them – she almost forgot that she was a doctor.

“Miss Huo, can I ask you a question without you getting mad at me?”

“Sure.”

“Does Young Master Su… like you, like a lot?”

Huo Mian: “…”

“Seriously, everyone at the hospital’s been talking about it, why else would he get so nervous around you and treat you so well? Young Master Su’s family is really powerful, and a lot of women here at the military base are crazily in love with him… I heard he used to be a soldier as well, but he never had a serious girlfriend, nor did we see him treat anyone else as well as he treats you. So we were thinking that the two of you…”

“Su Yu and I… are close friends.” Huo Mian smiled; she wasn’t about to reply to the nurse’s question, nor did she want to refuse to answer and make her feel awkward.

Huo Mian’s vague answer made the nurse more confused than ever…

“Dr. Huo, you’re married, right?”

“I am.”

“I heard your husband is really handsome, too bad I haven’t been able to see him in person.”

“Mhm, he is good looking…” Huo Mian replied, feeling a little proud.

“I bet your baby’s going to be really pretty or handsome…” the nurse continued with her compliments, but Huo Mian only smiled.

A lot of people here at the military hospital talked about Huo Mian behind her back – she was young and pregnant with twins, but her husband never came to visit her. Su Yu was the one that had been always by her side.

Apparently, she was a murderer whom the military bailed out.

However, those who talked to Huo Mian all noticed that she was actually a really nice, easygoing, and well-educated person. She never got mad nor was she overly chatty.

She really didn’t seem like an evil murderer…

Anyways, she was too much of an enigma…

When Su Yu arrived at the hospital to pick Huo Mian up that afternoon, he saw her place a red brocade box in her bag.

“What’s that?” curious, Su Yu stuck out his head and asked.
