“Prove his innocence? Why would I? What good will it do for me?” Huo Mian asked, feeling confused.

“Huo Mian, aren’t you proud to be loved by Huo Siqian?” Mo Xue’er glared at Huo Mian enviousness.

“On the contrary. I think it’s terrifying… My life is a mess because he likes me, and my husband almost died because of it. On some level, I hate Huo Siqian as well, but I’d never do what you did… I will look for evidence and one day send Huo Siqian to prison. He will take responsibility for everything he’s done.”

“Huo Mian, how naïve are you? Do you really think you’d ever find any evidence?”

“I’m not in a hurry. Karma, though sometimes slow, will always come. No matter how powerful Huo Siqian is, I’ll one day find a loophole. You, on the other hand, should take good care of yourself. He won’t be affected by this, and rather, he’ll be pissed. You just signed your death wish.”

“Do you really think I would let him off the hook after this?” Mo Xue’er refuted angrily; she seemed determined to fight Huo Siqian to the death.

“Don’t underestimate him and his powers,” Huo Mian warned her out of the goodness of her heart, but Mo Xue’er laughed at her face. “I’ve been with him for so long, I know what he’s capable of.”

“Haha, yeah? Tell me, what did he do in the six years he spent in Germany?” Huo Mian’s question left Mo Xue’er speechless. Back then, she didn’t know him, so of course she didn’t know what he did in Germany.

“Are you showing off to me that you’ve known him for longer?”

“No, I’m just trying to remind you not to overestimate yourself and underestimate your enemies. It won’t get you anywhere… Get well soon.” Huo Mian didn’t want to talk to Mo Xue’er anymore, because she realized that everything the latter was thinking was dark and twisted.

What was the point of talking to her then? If Mo Xue’er wanted to seek revenge on Huo Siqian, so be it. Huo Mian was 100% certain that she wouldn’t succeed.

After leaving Mo Xue’er’s room, Huo Mian changed out of her work clothes and headed downstairs with her car keys. She was about to head out of the hospital entrance when she saw Qin Chu’s car parked outside. She suddenly felt warmth in her heart.

She walked up to him. “Hey, handsome, can I get a ride?”

“Sure, but make sure my wife doesn’t find out…” Mr. Qin joked with an extremely serious expression.

Huo Mian opened the passenger door, sat down on the seat, and pecked Qin Chu on the cheek. “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming to pick me up?”

“So… did I surprise you?” Qin Chu looked gently at her.

“I guess… but isn’t it normal for a husband to pick his wife up after work? Should I really be surprised?” Huo Mian refuted.

“What if I said that I come bearing snacks? Will you be surprised then?” Qin Chu asked as he handed her a delicate bento box – he brought her favorite snacks, milk tea, and crab-yolk buns.

“Wow, Mr. Qin, you’re such a good boy! Were you enlightened?” Huo Mian was truly surprised; having worked overtime, she was starving and planned on making some ramen once she got home. To her pleasant surprise, however, Qin Chu brought her a midnight snack! His gesture made her melt with warm happiness.

“I was, actually,” Qin Chu chuckled.

“Who enlightened you? Tell me!” Huo Mian demanded, putting her arms around Qin Chu’s neck.
