Chapter 32: Suspicious Men

Qing Chen felt a little awkward about this, “I… I’m not trying to scam you… I’m just curious,” He even felt a little ashamed.

He was just crazy about money…

However, Qing Chen also realized that Li Tongyun was also trying to confirm if he was a transmigrator.

Maybe his questions and curiosity about the Inner World revealed him.

But his firm refusal to not accept money in the Inner World put the little girl’s doubts to rest.

Overall, tonight was fruitful for Qing Chen. At the very least, he validated Li Tongyun’s status as a transmigrator.

He needed as many allies as possible in the Inner World to aid him in the Fight for the Shadow.

Despite the fact Li Tongyun was only ten years old now, she could potentially be of great help in the future.

He needed to make the preparations ahead of time, just like he did before his first night of transmigration.

Seeing that Jiang Xue was still in the kitchen, Li Tongyun quietly said to Qing Chen, “I don’t have much money in the Outer World, so will you settle on another condition??”

“What are your conditions?” asked Qing Chen.

“Can we talk about this later? Just please don’t tell my mom,” Li Tongyun said even softer.

“Fine, I’ll decide later,” said Qing Chen as he looked at Jiang Xue’s back in the kitchen, “I heard that the Inner World was very dangerous, so make sure to look after your mother.”

“Yeah, I will,” said Li Tongyun confidently, “If you end up transmigrating to the Inner World as well, I’ll protect both of you!”

Qing Chen was quite speechless from the pure and simple promise made by this child.

He walked downstairs after saying his goodbyes to Jiang Xue. His apartment was significantly quieter than the room above it.

He didn’t have any friends or relatives to talk to.

When Qing Chen checked his phone for the class group chat, it was still full of meaningless gossip. Maybe Nan Gengchen was the only other person in his class who had transmigrated.

Next, he opened his Weibo and found two new trending searches: A mysterious foreign organization is purchasing Inner World technology products for eye-dropping sums.

Someone even shared a screenshot of a list of items they were looking for, including NECE anti-aging products, EDE-002 genetic injection, and so on.

Among these are a number of cancer-curing drugs that were developed in the Outer World.

All of the items on the list enhance one or more of the following qualities: longevity, health, beauty, or strength.

The group even claimed to have conducted testing to make sure that these medications would have the same effects on Outer World residents.

They even published a detailed article specifying how to transport these technologies while transmigrating: wrapping the tablets in protective layers and placing them in your mouth, swallowing them into your stomach, or inserting them into your rectum.

Qing Chen frowned as he read this because these were clearly strategies that drug dealers used to smuggle drugs across borders.

These anti-aging products were almost priceless.  How much would a filthy rich guy be ready to pay if he was dying of an incurable sickness and this Inner World treatment appeared that could potentially save him?

What price could be equivalent to a person’s life?

Of course, there were even more advanced technologies in the Inner World, like bionic livers or hearts, but these were impossible to transfer.

Qing Chen was still trying to become an Extraordinary, but he couldn’t help but be impressed by the lengths people were willing to go to to get rich by transmigrating.

He wouldn’t be able to obtain these medications just yet.

If he wanted to get those medications, he’d have to reveal his status as a transmigrator.

He could also use a flash drive to bring across documentation of technologies, but how would he get the fundamental technologies in the Inner World? It might be possible in the future, but not right now.

Qing Chen was barely able to even get information about what was happening outside of Prison 18 right now.

His most important mission right now was to maintain his relationship with Li Shutong.

Hold up… Qing Chen suddenly realized that this company was the same one that was buying mechanical limbs.

A few days ago there was news about transmigrators getting their legs cut off and sold on the black market. Perhaps in the future, there would be way more of these illegal and unethical acts!

Qing Chen suddenly recalled the two strangers that he saw sitting in the area as he walked into the neighborhood.

He quietly walked to the window and peered through the curtains.

However, the two men squatting outside were gone.

Qing Chen hesitated only for a short moment before dialing 110

1

110 is the number for the police. In China, police (110), fire(119), and ambulance (120) have separate lines

. “Hello, I found two suspicious men on Xingshu Road No. 4, Building 12. They are likely up to no good.”

He was hesitant at first because if his guess was incorrect, then he would get in trouble for falsely alarming the police.

“Just to confirm, you observed two suspicious males in your area,” the female officer on duty stated shortly after.

As she was talking, Li Tongyun’s scream rang out from upstairs.

“Please send help immediately, thank you!” Qing Chen hung up the phone.

He was absolutely correct. Their target? Jiang Xue’s mechanical limbs.

When he walked past these two, they glanced at Jiang Xue’s window multiple times!

Qing Chen reached for the military-grade shovel he had purchased before his first transmigration, but he paused before exiting his house.

He was just a regular 17-year-old high school student. Even though he had witnessed death just the day before, he was still just an ordinary kid!

How could he possibly fight two, possibly more, adults?

Click… With the shovel in hand, Qing Chen opened the door and walked out.

He wasn’t a kind man; he was selfish. He watched his classmate go crazy in Prison 18 and didn’t lift a finger to help.

But seeing a small child-like Li Tongyun being tortured was too much for Qing Chen to bear.

He reasoned that even if he had the powers of an Extraordinary, they would be useless if he couldn’t use them to save people.

The moment he opened the door, he saw one of the men come tumbling down the stairs.

This person’s arm was twisted into a horribly painful position, and he was lying unconscious on the lower flight of stairs.

Beside him was a switchblade.

When Qing Chen looked up, he saw Jiang Xue with her face covered in blood. Her long-sleeved white shirt was also splattered with blood.

One of the woman’s sleeves was ripped, revealing a slim and powerful blue mechanical arm beneath it.

Her body shook, but her eyes were determined.

She wore the fierce gaze of a mother protecting her child.

Jiang Xue had a compelling charm.

Jiang Xue looked at Qing Chen and saw the shovel in his hands. She took a deep breath  and said, “Thank you.”

She knew Qing Chen was here to help, and she’d have to remember people like Qing Chen for the rest of her life.

“Just one?” inquired Qing Chen.

“There’s another one that got away,” said Jiang Xue.

Qing Chen asked, “Is Xiaoyun all right?”

Jiang Xue said, “She’s just scared.”

“Take care of Xiaoyun.” Qing Chen murmured, frowning.

He then dashed out of the building, heading for the distant dark figure.

Jiang Xue wanted to stop him, but before she was even able to speak, the teenager already disappeared into the darkness.

After a while, she suddenly found that Qing Chen went the other direction.
