It seemed that a lot of the captain's people were fans of Eric. Almost all of his staff had lined up for a photo with Cedric's friend.
"Is it always like this?" Cedric whispered to Katerina.
"Yep." Katerina said with a nod. "That's why I already knew what the captain's people wanted to ask." She said with a laugh.
"Capt. Lim, are we done here?" Cedric asked the police captain as the last member of his team finished taking photos with Eric.
"I would still like to ask your other companions why they are here with you as well." The man said.
Cedric nodded and allowed him to proceed.
Capt. Lim asked each of Cedric's friends why they were in Singapore with him since they had no connection to the Reyes Group or any of it's business interests.
Miguel answered as they had planned, he simply wanted to get away from work as well.
Cedric was sure that it confused the police captain how easily Miguel and Eric decided to just pick up and leave the country for a vacation, but he probably just chalked it up to the lavish lifestyles of the rich and famous.
When he moved on to ask Nicole after accepting Miguel and Veronica's reason.
"Miss Nicole, why are you here with Mr. Reyes? If I am not mistaken, you have a hospital to run." Capt. Lim said in a tone that was practically accusatory.
Nicole gave him a smile and laughed.
"I'm here to keep my fiance company." Nicole said with a shrug.
"Your fiance?" Capt. Lim asked with a confused expression.
"Yes, Nicole and my assistant, Ian Lim, are engaged." Cedric explained for the couple. "As a matter of fact they already have a little one at home and they are expecting their second child."
"What?" The captain asked with a confused look. "How -?" Capt. Lim caught himself before he could say his question, but Ian and Nicole already knew what he wanted to ask.
"Capt. Lim, we do not have a responsibility to explain our relationship to you." Ian said in a stern tone. "The job as an assistant to Mr. Cedric Reyes is not a lowly one, and I do not come from a poor family." Ian explained.
"It's true." Cedric said with a laugh as he nodded in agreement. "The Lim family from which Ian comes from is one of the oldest and richest families in the country, although they are no longer as wealthy as they once were, he still holds a pedigree higher than the Chans."
"I'm sorry if my reaction was offensive." The police captain said with a frown as he realized that he had spoken out of place.
"It's fine." Ian said with a smile as he tried to reassure the police captain that he was not offended. "To be honest it's good that you asked the question instead of just assuming behind our backs."
"I simply assumed that families like the Chans in your country would require certain standards and I didn't expect you to belong to such a family. My apologies." The policeman said as he bowed his head out of respect.
"It's fine, let's continue with the questioning." Cedric said with a nod as he tried to move the discussion forward.
"Oh, yes." The captain said as he turned to Katerina.
"Miss Sebastian, I'm sorry but I do have to ask this." The captain said as he sneaked a glance at Eric. It seemed that Capt. Lim was aware of the rumors surrounding the pair.
"Go on." Karerina said with a nod as she gave him permission to continue asking her questions.
"Miss Katerina, why are you in Singapore?" Capt. Lim asked Katerina.
Katerina gave him a kind smile as she noticed him glancing at Eric.
"No Capt. Lim, I'm not here because of Eric, if that's what you are trying to ask." Katerina said with a laugh. "I am the chief legal counsel of the Reyes Group. I'm actually here on official business."
"Oh." Capt. Lim said with a hint of surprise in his tone.
"I'm sure you and your staff are quite curious, as to mine and Katerina's relationship." Eric said with a laugh as he looked at the policemen and women in the room.
He had noticed that some of them had stolen photos of Eric and Katerina being in the same room together. Just a photo of him with Katerina was more than enough to spark rumors about their relationship. It was best to kill those rumors now.
"I apologize, my daughter and wife are fans." Capt. Lim said in an embarrassed tone.
"It's fine." Katerina said as she smiled. "We get this question often enough." She explained.
"It's just the rumors about you two being a couple, it seems too good to be true." A police woman said as Capt. Lim quickly glared at her.
"It's fine Capt. Lim." Eric said with a nod. "Katerina and I are just people that belong to the same group of friends. I'm good friends with her older brother."
"So it's just friends?" Another member of the police staff was not able to resist but ask.
"Yes." Katerina said with a laugh.
"Mr. Reyes, how long are you and your group planning on staying?" Capt. Lim asked Cedric.
"We were just supposed to stay for the day, I have work at home and a son I want to get back to as soon as possible." Cedric told Capt. Lim.
"You have no intention of seeing this investigation through?" Capt. Lim asked.
"There is no need." Cedric said with a shrug. "Plus I will simply ask Mae to return. She will go back to our country for a few days and I will ask her to come back here. Do you need anything from us?" Cedric asked.
"I will need to ask you to stay for an additional day or two, at least until we can rule out any foul play." The captain said.
"Are we suspects?" Eric asked, playing the clueless actor.
Cedric was amazed at how well Eric had always made himself seem less intelligent, he knew that if he had to dumb himself down he would be incredibly frustrated.
"No Mr. Eric, you aren't, we don't know yet if the cause of death was natural or not, so no suspects." Capt. Lim explained.
Cedric knew that what the policeman really meant was if there was foul play, then yes they would become suspects. He understood why Cedric already mentioned that he was investigating how the man had approached Mae, he had a motive.
"Thank you for your cooperation." Capt. Lim said with a smile. "I guess that's all, unless my staff have anything else to ask?" The police captain said as he glanced at his people.
