193 Time To Go

After leaving the inn, they arrived back in Timbretune by midday. Aether landed right outside the gates. He let all of them off his back before he minimised his size and coiled around Vy's wrist as they entered the town.

It had been a couple of days since Vy's arrest in the market. While some gave her passing glances, Vy was no longer too bothered by it. Knowing what she knew, nothing they could say would matter much to her.

All she cared about right now, was to see her brother.

Vy soon found herself running back to her house. The adrenaline was pumping in her veins, as she ran through the streets. Vy finally came to their house that sat alongside the stone pavement.

She turned the handle on the door and entered the house.

"Lycster, I'm …," before she could even finish her sentence, Vy could feel a force come on her.

A smaller person was hugging her with one arm. Vy placed her arms around her brother and hugged him tightly. She never ever wanted to let him go. Even them being apart for a couple of days felt weird.

But, with the tasks she would have to complete for Future Eye, there might come a time where she would be alone.

"I'm home, Lycster. Just like I promised," Vy said with a smile.

Lycster looked up to her as she said that. She combed her hand through his hair. Had her brother grown a little in the last few days? Vy still remembered the time she first met him. The young boy who lived on the streets.

"I was worried," Lycster spoke, his voice muffled.

"Worried?"

"That you might not come back," he continued.

"We've been through worse, haven't we? Plus, we don't have to worry about the Baron anymore."

Lycster released his sister from the hug. He rubbed his eyes as he walked over to the side table next to the sofa. As soon as she saw the black coloured envelope, she knew what it meant. She took the envelope from Lycster and opened it up.

She walked over to the sofa. Vy continued to read the letter as she set down. It contained information regarding her first task. Lycster sat by her side and read the letter from the side.

The word 'Negotiator' was in bold on the letter itself.

"Negotiator?" Lycster read it out loud.

"They want me to replace a negotiator they had sent previously."

As Vy continued to read the letter, she noticed that they had given her the code name 'The Raven'.

-Looks like they know about my ability to shapeshift as well.- she said to herself.

Vy's task was simple. She was to become the negotiator between two factions. The Kingdom of Papillion and the nomadic Republic of Mothylek. These two factions had not been able to come to an agreement despite lengthy discussions and negotiation.

"Why did the previous negotiator leave?" Lycster wondered.

Vy looked through the contents of the letter. When she saw the reason listed, she too wondered what it meant.

"It says here he left due to conflict of interest."

According to the letter, Vy was to travel to the Vallis Valley which was where both factions resided in. It was going to be a long journey, even if she was to fly there. Lucky for her, the Future Eye had her covered.

All she needed to do was to meet a Future Eye associate in three days at sunset at the keystone portal mentioned in the letter.

"Three days? Three days to pack for a trip? We don't even know how long we would be away for!" Lycster exclaimed in distraught.

Vy bit her lip. While she would love for her brother to accompany her on this trip, would it be wise to bring him along? There was no guarantee on the dangers they would face while out on the trip.

The change in expression on Vy's face was too obvious to ignore. But Lycster wanted to go with her. He did not want to be away from his sister. He wanted to become her protector.

"Lycster…"

"I know what you're going to say," he cut her off. He held on to her hand tightly as he looked directly in her eyes.

"I want to go with you. I don't care how dangerous it might get. I promise you I won't burden…"

"You're not a burden, Lycster," Vy declared to her younger brother.

Vy could see the determination in his eyes. With the uncertainty of the third and final task looming over them, Vy figured out the best course of action.

"I don't know what lies ahead for us, but I know one thing for sure," she said as she bent down on one knee to look at her brother in the eye.

"Each task they give is going to be more difficult than the last," she continued.

"And I will be there by your side through all of it…" Lycster replied as Vy shook her head.

"If you were to accompany me on the first two missions, I will not have you following me into the third. Do you understand me?" Vy said in a serious tone of voice.

Something about the third missions worried her. She trusted the feeling in her gut but wondered what it might be. Lycster hesitated for a moment before he nodded in acknowledgement. If they were only going to be together for the next two missions, he would ensure that they would make the most out of it.

Vy pulled him in for a hug.

In her heart, Vy swore to herself.

-I will never let anything happen to you, Lycster. And I will always come back home to you.-

Unknown to Vy, Lycster made a promise to himself.

-I will protect you, sis. No matter what happens, I wait for your return. Even when no one else trusts you, or believes in you. My faith in you will never fade.-

Watching the siblings in their embrace, Aether could not help but smile a little.
