The two lizards circled Vy as they called out to the others who had gone off to chase Lycster into the distance. As soon as they heard the call, they came crawling back to where Vy was. Lycster turned back to see if the lizards were still chasing him, only to realise that they had runoff.
He tried to get their attention again with the arrows, but this time, it did not work.
-They seem to want something from me.- Vy told Lycster.
-What could we possibly want from us. From you?- Lycster asked.
Vy traced the eyes of the lizard and realised that they were looking at her bracelet. Did they know that about the cargo she was carrying? Shin had helped them to confirm her suspicions about the glacier scorpions.
They were indeed after the cargo she carried with her. And from Shin's information, they did not act on their own. Someone was after the items she was carrying. But unfortunately, even Vy herself did not know what the cargo was.
She had a few theories on what it could be, but nothing too concrete. What she thought was a simple delivery mission, turned out to be a tedious one. It was a lot more physically demanding than the last.
Could all of this actually be a test?
But Vy did not have time to think about that now. She needed to focus on the situation at hand. It was good that the lizards were focused on her, that gave the lephant the ability to survive and hopefully get back to its herd.
-Lycster, stay with the lephant and help it get back to its herd. I'll handle the lizards.-
Learning from her past few battles, Vy assumed a more defensive pose. She refused to be the first to attack. As the standoff waned on, the lizards could not wait any longer. One of the lizards slithered forward before launching itself into the air, attempting to attack her from above.
This caused the other lizards to follow. They wanted to pile up upon her, using their combined weight to crush down upon her and wound her. Vy did not move. She allowed her enemies to take what they assumed was the advantage.
But as soon as they tried to dig their claws into her fur, she lowered her body close to the sand beneath her. Using her huge mouth and jaw, she picked up as much sand as she could Without any warning, she pushed herself upwards with great force, leaping into the air. The lizards were thrown off by her movement.
Some tried to grasp on to her but it was useless. Out of their range, the lizards could not figure out their next move. But Vy was ready with hers. With the sand still in her mouth, she released a hot flame. As soon as the fire mixed with the sand, it instantly turned into glass.
Some of the lizards were blinded by it while the others were distracted by it. Vy took back to her human form, wielding her dagger in one hand and a one-handed sword in the other. Taking full advantage of the situation, she slaughtered the lizards without mercy.
She killed off three of them with her dagger and sword before one of the lizards charged towards her with full force and menace. Vy took it on head-on, using her sword to bar the lizard from biting down on her.
It was too close for comfort. The thorn lizard was barely inches away from her face. Vy grabbed hold of her energy dagger and stabbed it repeatedly. Blood oozed out from each new wound she inflicted upon it but the lizard did not give up. She admired it's fighting spirit, but despised the struggle.
The adrenaline was pumping through her veins. Her heart was palpitating. Vy could feel a slight soreness in her muscles. Her wounds might have superficially healed, but the injuries beneath the surface still needed a little more time.
From the corner of her eye, she could see another lizard charging towards her from the side. The impact was in a matter of seconds. Vy immediately took to her Titan wolf form once more and crushed the lizard beneath her claws.
The incoming lizard could not stop in time. Vy unhinged her jaw and bit down on the lizard. As the creature struggled in her mouth, she bent down and placed one paw on the lower half of the lizard. Using her teeth, she ripped the lizard in half as blood and guts spewed everywhere.
She released the carcass from her mouth as she looked at the carnage around her. All of the lizards were dead. Vy turned her attention to the lephant and Lycster. She could see him guiding the lephant towards the herd. But the gap between them was too big.
The baby lephant was getting left behind. It tried really hard but it was too exhausted to continue. The lephant tripped on a rock and stumbled forward. It tried to scramble back up but it could not get up.
The lephant lifted its trunk to trumpet, to call out to the herd. But its voice was not loud enough to be heard. Seeing the plight of the creature, Vy could not bear to see it all alone. Without a second thought, she took to her Titan raven form and flew into the sky.
As she approached the lephant, she stretched out her talons and carefully picked it up. All Lycster could see was the incoming shadow that loomed over him and the desert deers. Before he knew it, his sister in her raven form picked up the lephant and flew off into the distance.
The lephant did not struggle, it was simply too tired to defend itself.
-Hang in there, we're bringing you to your family.- Vy said to the lephant.
