50 Glower in Your General Direction

Jade quickly dismissed the thought. 'No, there's no way. It's likely he just borrowed money from a friend or used his phone to take out some money from a cash machine.

'Yeah, it seems my sleep-deprived brain is jumping to some strange conclusions.'

By the time Jade reached home, her leg was quite sore. Thus, when she climbed the stairs, she was actually quite noisy due to how clumsily she was moving. Bizarrely, however, Mr. Frisch did not say anything to her about it.

When she reached his floor, he peeked out the door with an initially angry expression but smiled when he saw her and retreated back to his room.

'Odd… Normally, he shouts at me for making practically no noise at all, but now he's ignoring this noise? Maybe he heard about what happened? Yes, I suppose you can't judge people without getting to know them better.'

After clambering up the last flight of stairs to her room, Jade took out her key and rushed in. She switched the kettle on, and while she was waiting for it to boil, she sat down on the sofa.

Before the kettle even finished boiling, Jade was fast asleep.

'I fell asleep fully clothed on the sofa? Goodness, I really must have been tired. I shouldn't make a habit of this; I could catch a cold sleeping here, and it will ruin my clothes.

'But once in a while won't hurt. At least I'm feeling more reinvigorated.'

Thinking that, Jade got up, not even looking at her phone, and went to shower and change into some fresh clothes, wanting to feel completely refreshed.

When she came back out, she went into the kitchen to make the tea that she had not managed to make the night before.

With her mug and a round of toast, Jade sat back down on the sofa. After a moment's hesitation, she flicked on the TV and looked for a good breakfast show.

'Hmm… none of the shows I like are on. Maybe I'm too early again.'

Jade looked under the cushions for her phone, and when she found it, she almost screamed. 'I'm not too early; I'm too late!'

On the phone's screen, it was showing 11:38AM.

'I can't leave Harry alone to deal with a mid-week lunchtime rush. As much as she says she doesn't need special treatment, she is pregnant!'

Jade placed the toast, which only had two bites taken out of it, and the almost full mug on the coffee table in front of her before rushing to grab her things.

'Bag. Keys. Phone. Wallet. Yup, I shouldn't have forgotten anything.'

After going through the checklist in her mind, Jade rushed out the door.

As she ran to the door, she did not notice the brown envelope on the floor, and when she flung the door open, she did not notice that the door knocked said envelope underneath the sofa.

Jumping down the stairs two at a time, Jade went by too quickly for Mr. Frisch to have a chance to complain to her. Instead, he just glowered in her general direction.
