Chu Yi seemed to have been stunned by excessive fear and even when the crazed player was right upon him- he still stood motionless!
A excited smile appeared on the man's lips, his body tensed in anticipation and he barreled towards him, unusually sharp teeth glinting coldly in the dim light! He could even imagine the fear and despair on Chu Yi's face right before his death!
His heart undulated vigorously in his chest, violently pounding against the ribs, making a loud thumping sound in excitement due to the upcoming victory.
This was strength!
The young man stood quietly in the chaotic room, with thin shoulders, he stood motionless, his facial features were a little blurred due to the bloody film that covered the man's l eyes, his pale face almost melted into the darkness , but right before he crushed his throat, the player seemed to notice his eyes getting darker and yet brighter like a dark flame that burned silently at the bottom of the abyss.
The scarlet lines like scales seemed to flash across his face for a few seconds, hugging his slender and pale skin tightly like vines, stretching out from the neckline with teeth and claws, possessively marking every corner of his skin, the impact of the extreme red color made the pale pallete seem more and more charming!
Chu Yi stared at the beastly visage of the man approaching him, he could hear the air cutting from the force and the attack had already reached the tip of his nose, just seconds away from hitting him , and yet a secret and contemptuous smile quickly passed over his lips, and his dark red eyes reflected the crazed and omnipotent look of triumph!
He moved.
As if to make a last minute struggle-
Ha!
The man sneered 'It's too late, he should just accept his death, unnecessary resistance would only make it more painful-
Crack!-
There was only the sickening sound of bones being crushed to pieces and instantly the triumph gave way to absolute disbelief of his illusion shattering!
How-
The pain wasn't even able to travel to his nerve endings because his neck itself had been broken!
The bright light in his eyes burnt out instantly and everything went dull , he could sense his body being thrown to the floors, discarded like trash. Everything before him slowly blurred and angry resentment brewed in his dying heart.
This isn't how it's supposed to be!
He was supposed to be God!
He seemed to hear the same bewitching voice sneer silently in the void.
'Ants will still always be ants in the end'
There was no vengeance for him, he could only accept it.
Then it went dark in death.
His reign of terror lasting only a few moments before it was snuffed out like a light-
The corners of Chu Yi's s lips were raised, and the dark red eyes were burning with an evil and pleasant light, which bordered almost on inhuman cruelty.
He seemed to vaguely hear a voice in his mind but it was too far away for him to decipher any meanings, he ignored it and shook his head and once again took a deep breath.
The cruelty in his heart was rising up at a much more frequent rate and was becoming harder to suppress under the stimulation of the copy.
The dining room was once again restored to its previous calm but the players still looked battered under the continuous wave of unexpected attacks.
"What the fuck was that?"
Alot of the players were wondering the same thing but Chu Yi, Tang Shun, Chao Bin and Mu Fang who were privy to more direct information were understandably a little more solemn.
"As we can see, the drugs are starting to act up and beginning from the residents with the most resistance to the anti-bodies, or the players who didnt take the antidotes, they will all be eliminated soon.p
Essentially , the Institute is weeding out the good from the bad." Tang Shun instinctively moved his hand to finger his glasses, but paused and dropped them, remembering that it had been directly destroyed during the fight yesterday. "The man who had gone crazy a minute ago was definitely facing this conundrum and would most likely have experienced death at a much more painful rate immediately after the effects of his chromosomes being altered wore off."
"Chu Yi, can even be said to have done him a favor by making his death much quicker."
Chao Bin's face turned black, and he directly questioned the Institute in anger, " Does giving us the antidote that only prolonges our lives for a few more hours make any sense. If they're looking to eliminate the ones who they feel are unworthy, there are no reasons to drag this on for so long, just directly take us and inject us once and record our data properly. Is playing with us so fun!?"
"Prison Disciplinary Methods." Chu Yi once again took up the role of breaking Chao Bin's World View.
"Disciplinary Methods?"
There was a doubtful look on Chao Bin's face.
Chu Yi scratched his fingers lightly; the red film still reflecting lightly on his hand, and then said casually, "If you only give a person a few hours to live everyday and continue to do so regardless of season or day, even if he knows that he is dying, the person can neither do anything about it nor stop taking the pills because he doesn't want to lose his life. Therefore he will slowly develop a kind of reliance on that pill and look at it as his spiritual sustainance, anticipating and looking forward to when that pill is handed over. If one day this life saving pill is taken away from him, he will fall into an endless panic and become desperate, willing to do anything to get that pill. And when he has truly become obedient, he will completely fall into the abyss and lose his will and even control over his own kind. Because all of these have have slowly taken over by the person who gives him the pill."
"Experience the pain of dying once is much diffrent from experiencing the pain of dying everyday and watching yourself slowly losing vitality and drifting away." Chao Bin's chestnut hair was tousled and his brows furrowed, he was filled with consternation,
Tang Shun's also faced him, somewhat curious about why Chu Yi always seemed insightful about his thoughts. He doesn't feel like he is someone, who writes his thoughts on his face. Chu Yi moved his fingers while continuing, "But if you give them the opportunity to live after torturing them everyday, won't you become something like a God to them. They'll be grateful and thankful for your presence, even ignoring the fact that you were the one who put them there because in their minds, you have become the symbol for something holy. And maybe if you give them a brief respite every now and then, maybe that small resentment that they would still retain would give way to happiness, because 'you can't be a bad person, a bad person would not allow them freedom ' You become a saviour. And this belief will become more and more stable, the longer the person has been isolated."
He clasped his hands together loudly "Isn't that right."
"So do you understand now, why we are being gradually acclimated to this Institute."
"This is the method of control of the Abandoned Planets."
It was dead silent.
It wasn't such an unacceptable thing but more of something that made them increasingly aware of the horrors of the Institute.
Mu Fang was the one who broke the silence and regardless of Chao Bin's look of disapproval, proposed that they split up to go look at other places.
Mu Fang and Chao Bin would go back to the Operation Room to look around and Chu Yi and Tang Shun would go to the playroom, he had previously mentioned, he didn't mention a word about his previous group and considering that he had appeared at the Operation Room with only two others , something definitely must have happned in between.
Eventually, however they all agreed and Tang Shun and Chu Yi followed Mu Fang's directions out of the Dining room.
As they walked though the vacant halls, Tang Shun told Chu Yi without turning his head , "The things we've found out is that we were injected with betamine substances that are extremely harmful to the body to start the process of gene construction, we were then given an unknown antidote to there down the rate of our gene deconstruction, then on the eve of the second day we were knocked unconscious and everyone experienced different stages of being operated on. These operations, I assume was to have our bodies acclimatized to perhaps something like organ transplant, as there is evidence that suggests such."
"However there is something different about your transformation. Regardless of what happened last night, you directly burst out with superhuman strenght and therefore should be experiencing organ failure and on the verge of death right at this moment."
"But you aren't and you have also showed non-human characteristics that are impossible solely though the use of Betamine. With this, I can at least come to conclusion that you've been injected with at least one other foreign substance outside of our knowledge "
"The Characteristics of Chromosomes overdraw is seen in superhuman strenght and intelligence and
failed or interrupted gene transformation should result in something like the man from earlier. "
"You are none of that."
Chu Yi didn't seem worried about the things listed by
Tang Shun, " I, myself have experienced the same things as you so if I'm exhibiting different signs, you can only petition to the system. "
He wasn't lying, but his words seemed mostly perfunctory. Chu Yi then laughed, the faint scarlet lines once again appearing briefly on his face, "Don't worry, I most definitely won't die before he shows up."
He?
Chu Yi didn't elaborate and sped up his pace towards the upcoming playroom. Even though Tang Shun was curious, he could only drop the subject in the end.
The playroom wasnt hard to find, the door itself was distinctly diffrent from the previous monogamous rooms and the door was painted with a bright green that had faded and stripped over time.
However, this place is completely isolated from the outside, bigger and more vacant than imagined. The room is filled with a strange mist, and the humidity makes this place emit a decadent and humid smell.
The four walls are painted with circus animals, monkeys wearing red square caps, elephants with vests, tigers and ferrules, and fluffy white rabbits in black top hats. But about the edges, most of these bright paintings have been stripped of their colors, and everything has become old, yellow, and gray, like works of a generation away.
It was just as Mu Fang said, this room was filled with rusty cages that could fit a human child, bear traps spotted with brown blood and metal rods that seemed to have been bent from long term use.
This didn't seem like a playroom and more of a medieval punishment room, you'd see in children's mental hospital in the Victorian Era. With harnesses and the common empty syringe lying strewn across the dirty floor.
The place reeked of cruelty and harsh discipline.
There was the rustle of paper when he walked in and Chu Yi looked down to see that he stepped on what seemed to be a kid's drawing. Bending down, he picked it up and examined it closely. There was no light here and so Chu Yi had to pull the paper to his face.
It was a drawing alright but it was drawing of something that was inexplicably familiar to him.
A black cat.
He pushed the paper to Tang Shun and looked around at the bleak and empty room,
"What do you think?"
Chu Yi didn't answer, instead he asked his own question.
"Why do you think an experimental lab would have a playroom." He already knew the reason and Tang Shun also knew, looking at the blood spots on the floor, Chu Yi replied to his own question,
"They had no use, so the Institute found one for them instead."
