There were only very few instances in Ming Yue's life where she lost her cool and acts out of her character. Given her position in the clan, everyone made sure not to piss her off, and even her family avoided getting into her bad side. It was a well-known fact among the clan members that only those people who were tired of living would get on to the witch's bad side.
It wouldn't be a lie to say that she always maintained an upper hand over her opponents, especially over men. Every time she meets a strong enemy, she looks for their weaknesses and uses them as a weapon to destroy them. Or even worse, she let them annihilate themselves.
She planned the same for Wan Yi Jun, too.
Ming Yue searched for his weakness so that she could use it as a tool against him and escape in case of an emergency.
But her calculations went absolutely wrong while executing the plan in person. Unlike her previous opponents, it wasn't so easy to play mind games with Wan Yi Jun, who retaliated with the same methods to keep her under check.
And the belated realization of finding out his weakness only comes at the expense of sharing her damned secrets forced her to make a decision.
Either to confide or to leave the mansion,
So she took the last weapon she could use on Wan Yi Jun to stop him from looking for her past- To emotionally manipulate her naive and caring master,
"If you want me to leave the house, I will do it right away, master." Ming Yue repeated in a voice so mellow yet sharp.
"You were kind enough to give me a job after seeing me at the worst. However, If you think that I'm unqualified to work here, it's better that I leave before I become a burden." She made sure to put her best act to persuade Wan Yi Jun at any cost. Not only the stay at Wisteria gardens would help her to keep an eye on the police investigation, but it would be the best cover for her mission.
It was like two birds with a single shot.
Hearing her words, Wan Yi Jun touched his forehead in frustration and took a deep breath before opening his mouth to admit the real reason behind their conversation.
"Miss Meng, I was just giving you a sneak peek at the possible questions you will have to answer soon."
For a moment, Ming Yue couldn't comprehend what she heard and stared blankly at the man who stood before her.
"I didn't get you, master?"
"Soon or later, we will have visitors in this house. No matter how much we explain our relationship, it will be a little hard for them to accept that a man and a woman are living together under the same roof." Wan Yi Jun explained the reason behind the awkward conversation they had a moment ago.
It was true that he was worried about the possible rumours that might spread within his family when Han Ze Min or someone else heard that there was a young and beautiful maid in the wisteria gardens.
He wanted to make sure that Ming Yue was strong enough to answer all wicked questions that she might face in the future. Also, it wouldn't be a lie, if he tried to double-check the character of his so-called maid doesn't have any ulterior motives that include any possible "romantic feelings."
"So, consider this as a pep talk."
"Master, are you worried that someone might mistake me as your mistress?"Ming Yue's eyebrows knitted together as she contemplated over the topic, only to let out a self-deprecating scoff.
"Good lord! master, are you really that dumb?" She asked the man who stood unflinching even after hearing her remarks,
"We are so different from each other, like the sky and earth. Anyone with a brain could easily tell that we-no" She paused in midsentence and studied Wan Yi Jun's extremely striking good looks and towering figure as if she was looking at some kind artwork,
Of course, he looked dog tired, but that doesn't minimize his charm. He was definitely one of the best creations of God.
"Nope...I don't stand a chance as your mistress." She shrugged her shoulders and stated in an appreciating tone without any reluctance. After all, she was very much aware of the existence of Wan Yi Jun's girlfriend, who was way better than her.
"Well, thanks for the compliment, Miss Ming." Wan Yi Jun said while trying hard to keep a straight face after hearing her honest remark.
It wasn't the first time he received praise for his good lucks, but the way she compared both of them was the thing that made him laugh.
Does Ming Yue really consider herself a mediocre girl, or does she want others to tell her that she is an absolutely gorgeous woman?
"But not everyone would think like you. Some people are looking for a way to throw shades at me. Even if you swear that we don't stand a chance as a couple, it won't matter to them." Wan Yi Jun corrected with her a smile. Since Han Ze Min was following him like a shadow and reporting everything to grandma, he doesn't want to take a chance in ruining his life.
"I don't understand why you are worrying about others' opinions?" Ming Yue jokingly asked. She couldn't believe that the almighty young master Wan feared people's judgements so much that he was ready to give her a pep talk.
"You are a man. Nothing will happen to you, even if you lead a promiscuous life. It's your house. It's your life." She added in a casual tone as if it was no big deal. Even if he gets kicked out of the police department, he has money to live like a King. And As far as she knows there wasn't anyone in Wan Yi Jun's family other than his mother to care about his life and relationships. Since his mother was abroad, Wan Yi Jun was a free bird, without worrying about anything.
"I don't care about what they talk about me. But that won't be the case if they drag you into this mess. I don't want anyone to target you and ruin your life." Wan Yi Jun spoke in a voice, so gentle and affectionate as if he really meant whatever he said about his maid.
However, Ming Yue couldn't gawp in disbelief when she heard something unexpected from him.
"Are you worried about me, an orphan?" She pointed her index finger at herself and asked in a doubting tone.
"What exactly wrong with this man? Why is he hellbound on protecting some random woman when he already has a girlfriend? Isn't he worried that his actions might ruin his relationship with his girlfriend.?" She couldn't help but wonder whether he was loyal to his girlfriend or not.
"I know that you are someone who prefers to take care of yourself. But Miss Ming, as long as you stay here as a maid, it's my responsibility to make sure that you stay safe and happy." Wan Yi Jun assured and gently nodded his head as if he was seeking the same from her.
"Hmm, thank you, master. I will work my best, too." She replied half dazedly before pointing at the dishes in the sink, "If that's all, can I go back to my work?"
"Yep, and I will take a nap. Can you wake me up in an hour or two, miss Ming? I need to go back to the office." Wan Yi Jun requested as he finally decided to conclude their conversation. He came to Wisteria gardens only because he wanted to give Ming Yue a briefing about her duties as a maid. He was supposed to return before Han Ze Min and the team report their findings at the headquarters.
"When will you come back, master? Should I prepare your dinner before I go home?" Ming Yue asked an obvious question, just stay true to her role as the maid, "Or Should I pack food for you, then?"
"No. There is no need for that. I normally don't eat dinner." Wan Yi Jun refused her offer, right away. He wasn't sure whether he could return home tonight, and asking Ming Yue to pack food would be even more awkward with Han Ze Min lurks in the office.
"You skip breakfast, and you never eat dinner. No wonder you look so tired all the time." She sighed and nodded in agreement,
"It's because of my work....I...I " Wan Yi Jun tried to use his usual excuse, but only to get looked down on by the girl who stood before him with a pair of judging eyes.
"Yes, yes, I know."
