Kim Su Won's big eyes shone brightly as she finally came to the realization. This was somewhere in medieval era. And she was the daughter of a duke. She could partake in martial arts, right? Even if they did not teach all this stuff to females, she was daughter of the duke. She could make extra requests to learn anything she liked, right?
She had always wanted to learn martial arts, but did not because she had to study day in and day out. Once, in rebellion, she had decided to join softball team of her school. It did not take her parents even three months before they went ahead and talked to the principal of the school to let her out of the team.
The wonderful bonds she had wanted to created, and all the praise she was getting from her coaches for the hard work she was putting in, all went to waste. She was not able to raise her head in front of her coaches ever in her school life after that.
It was a memory so badly etched in her heart that every time she had taken up any sports in her adult life for self defense, she had ended up leaving them within three months. Was this what they called commitment issues?
But now, she could really participate in athletics, right?
"Lady Emmeline, females here do not get to learn martial arts. They are trained to run the households. You will learn politics and economics to help your future husband, hopefully the crown prince," Alex whispered to Kim Su Won, he was quite taken aback that this frail looking girl was interested in swordsmanship.
"But Sir Alexander, who said I need to learn it in open? Won't you teach me yourself? You are going to be one of the greatest knights of all time after all," Kim Su Won replied, looking at the guy beside her sheepishly. Today's exam felt like she had won over two most important allies in the novel. She would try to push as hard as she could to learn what she wanted.
Alex remained calm. He could see through this kid completely. He almost laughed at her boldness. "Lady Emmeline, just to remind you, I am an aide to Sir Ivan Whittemore, not you. Furthermore, you are a crown princess candidate. The society would not take you interacting with me kindly," Alex answered, with the cool headed tone he always had.
Kim Su Won realized that she was indeed crossing the line with her demands. Alex was still a child, she could not ask of him stuff like this. She had to talk to Isaac Laurent himself. He was the one who was going to make her course content.
Alex was walking Kim Su Won down when Ivan interrupted the two of them. He stood cross armed in front of his younger sister, staring at her intently.
"W-What are you looking at elder brother?" Kim Su Won stood there flabbergasted while Alex politely dropped her hand and took his place by Ivan's side.
Ivan took a walk around her, checking her from every angle. "Something is different about you younger sister. I have said this to you before too, but you have changed too much," he put his hand beneath his chin, standing in a pondering pose.
"Hey, I said I have turned over a new leaf after almost losing my life. What is so difficult to understand in that?" Kim Su Won replied, slightly furrowing her eyebrows. Her change was too obvious but people had decided to keep quiet about it or at least discuss it in hushed tone.
But why did this guy need to keep highlighting the fact? If someone really dug deep, they would know she was not Emmeline Whittemore anymore. It was very convenient to use the excuse she was using right now, thank God there was an accident right before she woke up.
"I sometimes doubt if you are even my sister," Ivan threw the sentence carelessly but Kim Su Won, despite her condition, jumped and put her hand over her brother's mouth. She panicked, she really did.
"Why would you say something like that? Do you want people to get a wrong idea and put me in jail? Just because I am now showing my hidden intelligence now, you want to use this ridiculous excuse and take me out?" she yelled at him in whispers. If this were her room or wing even, she would have blasted this kid. How dare a fourteen year old reveal her behind the mask?
With the sudden commotion, everyone looked towards them. This was the first time in the whole day that this girl had lost her cool. Finally, she was acting like a twelve year old. So everyone normally went back to their own conversations.
On the side, Cecilia Whittemore was the only one whose face was getting redder by the second. her younger brother was now playing with their younger sister? Jealousy burst through her heart. The no name girl who had no reputation in the household whatsoever was winning hearts left and right. She had to do something about it.
"Uhh… I did not think that far. I am sorry my sister. Let me take to your room," Ivan scratched his head. He did not realize his careless words could put his sister in a predicament. In actuality, it was weirder that this young kid could think that far ahead.. Was she really the genius of the family? Why was she hiding it till now and why did she decide to come out at this moment? So many questions were swirling his mind. And he would slowly unravel her secrets, for sure!
