166 Why I Became A Contractor: Part 4

The shorthands at the clock were pointed at the direction of number three. I barely opened my eyes when there were two men in a coat standing next to my bed. They were most likely to be the police, but I couldn't be sure until they asked me some questions.

"Lynn, I'm Detective Harse from the PD. I want to ask you some questions. Do you mind?" He said.

I nodded. That detective pulled out a note from his coat and a pen from his pocket. He started asking me some questions. The first question was...

"Do you remember the face of the suspects?" He asked.

"Earrings, on ears and nose," Lynn said.

The second question was more about who had the motive for that. I hadn't thought about who could that be. That case was a random rape, that was all. I believed that no one would be evil enough to order such a hit at me.

"No idea, sir."

"I see." The detective put his note back to his coat. "I have bad news. Your parents, they died in a car crash two weeks ago," he said.

My heartbeat immediately went to the roof. The EKG machine beside me started to beep faster and louder. Cold sweat poured down my face like a waterfall. My vision began to blur. The nurse immediately came and injected something into my body.

My heart beat slower. Everything felt so high at that moment. That detective became blurry. I couldn't focus on anything anymore. The drug was a depressant.

"Yes, sorry if I have to tell you this, but it's better for you to know it now than later," Harse said. He left the room with another police officer.

Everything seemed to be very empty. There wasn't anything I could think of. Everything was seemed to be very high. The wind breeze was coming out from the hospital window. I didn't remember that anyone had opened that window before. Besides, the room was air-conditioned, why would anyone open that window?

"You know, all of this wouldn't have happened if you had stopped messing around." A black figure was sitting on the window in that hospital. He was wearing a tactical uniform and had a similar appearance to a SWAT team.

That figure was scary, but I couldn't move away. My body was drugged and I couldn't even move my muscle. That guy pulled out a pistol with a silencer and aimed it at me. I was scared shitless, if not for the drugs, I bet I would have a heart attack.

That guy lowered his pistol. "It's not worth it to kill you." He put his pistol back at his holster. "I'll probably just reject this one." He grabbed his phone and pressed something on his phone.

He put his phone back in his pocket and walked slowly to my bed. He was scary as hell. His skull balaclava was the most intimidating part of him besides his black uniform.

"You know, you can be a great asset." He observed me. "Forget about your normal life, it won't come back."

"Let me answer the question in your head real quick. Your friend's parent was the one who ordered the hit on you," he said.

My blood boiled. That statement alone made me want to report her to the authorities. It would surely ruin her reputation once and for all and it would return me back to my normal life once the police arrested that family.

"I know you will be angry, but at the same time, what can you do?" That man went to the window and jumped from the second floor. I didn't have any time to catch him since I couldn't move, not even by an inch.

Seven Days Later.

I returned back to school as usual. The complaint was never processed, even during those three weeks that I was in a coma. The rumor that I made love with the teacher who was making love with the girl who I caught became wilder. My reputation had begun to deteriorate quicker than I had expected before.

That teacher who I caught started blaming me for spreading false information. I didn't have any evidence either to back my claims. It had gone to shit. I couldn't stand it anymore. This afternoon, he wanted to talk to me in his room.

"BUT IT'S NOT ME!" I smashed the table with my hands.

"THEN WHO? YOU'RE THE ONE WHO IS KNOWN FOR SPREADING FAKE NEWS!" The teacher shouted back at me. He simply didn't want to be blamed for that.

"FAKE NEWS? YOU'RE CLEARLY GOING TO FUCK HER YOU OLD HAG!" I shouted.

That teacher slapped me with his hand. I didn't do anything wrong. It was him who was doing the offense, not me, why should I be involved in all of these things that I made. I thought this was going to be another easy report that could quickly give me a good reputation.

Then, another trouble appeared. The student council president walked to that room while looked disappointed. "Duh, from blaming me stealing to blaming a teacher doing a sexual offense, you're clearly a problem in this school aren't you?"

"Funny to say that since YOU WERE THE ONE WHO WAS STEALING THE MONEY!" I shouted back at him.

"Lynn, you better write a written apology to him or the school will suspend you." He gave me his ultimatum and the teacher smiled as he knew that the victory was in his hands. I cried as I ran outside of his office. Everything seemed to be very fucked up. There wasn't anyone believing me anymore. They perceived me as a whore who didn't know its place. It was quite funny since the one who I reported was the true whore.

The people in that school were looking at me with pity and disgust. They didn't like me nor want to talk with me. They just wanted to talk behind my back. My only close friend in that school had kept some distance from me since she thought that I was a troublemaker. It was simply wrong, I wasn't a troublemaker.

One of them threw a bottle of water that was opened in my direction. My clothes became wet and I ran to the teacher's office to report it. But just before I went back to the teacher's office, a teacher stopped me.

"What? We're tired of your bullshit McGrath," he said as he slapped me in the face. "Did you really think you can blackmail or colleague and pretend that other teachers don't see anything?"

The message was clear, even the authority wouldn't believe in my report. There was nothing I could do. I just simply ran outside of the school to the bus stop. My wet clothes were being used as a show from the men inside the bus. I didn't care, all I wanted was to be alone. I hated everyone.

I went back to my empty house. It was so awry, there was nobody there. I wanted to hug, kiss, and get loved by my parents, but there weren't there. All of them got killed in the car accident and my relatives didn't have any time to take care of me. They only could send me money every month.

I didn't need money, I wanted a decent love and attention like any other teenagers want. 'Why are you leaving me so early?' I sobbed in front of my parents' picture. My mom and my dad were still in that picture. I hugged that picture as if they were my mom and dad.

Suddenly, the bell of my house rang. I approached that door and someone came. It was the detective, I hope he brought good news in this worst week.

"Yes?" I erased the tears from my eyes.

"Sorry, but I need to give you this. See you," he went away without any warning nor permission. I wondered what the content of that document was. I opened the envelope with my hands. It was the case report from that detective.

[Suspect Can't Be Found]

'With all of the resources... And they still fucking fail?' I kicked the vase in my living room and smashed my head to the glass display that was in the living room. The glass broke and some of the glass was stuck on my head. Blood started coming out of my head.

"FUCK!!!" I threw a plate at the window of the kitchen and the coffee maker to the television. I flipped the table in the dining room upside down. There was nothing I could do at that point.

Everything seemed to have gone to just a glimpse of hope that couldn't be fulfilled. There was a rope in the garage of my house. I had an idea of what should I do with the rope. There was a hook on the garage, it should be enough to withstand my weight for some minutes.

I brought a chair from the kitchen and put it under that hook. I tied the rope on my neck and the other end at that hook. I stood up on that chair. 'Goodbye.' I kicked the chair and I was hanging in the ceiling. It was peaceful as I lost my breath and I went unconscious.
