2 What Does A Magikarp Taste Like?

" Hey, System, want to tell me what my new side mission is? "

Giving System the death stare, if looks could kill, the System would have died a thousand--no a million times over. Because of yesterday's unfortunate event, I had to spend more time to understand the Laws and Rules for the side mission when I should have been playing with Miyu!

╔ A new side mission has been assessed. Host's new side mission is, "To befriend or not to". This side mission is relatively easy as Host only needs to befriend a wild Pokemon. Of course, Host can choose the latter if Host doesn't want to befriend a wild Pokemon. ╝

" ...So, what're the rewards? Pokedollars? Potions? Pokeballs? "

╔ The rewards for this side mission is quite simple. The Pokemon which Host befriends, Host can call them for aid. ╝

" ... "

" You serious? "

╔ System has always been serious. ╝

" Then what're the penalties for failing it? "

╔ Not much. Just deducting all your Pokedollars as well as deactivating the system for a month. ╝

" System, have you ever heard of the phrase, "Be generous to the poor orphans and those in need?" "

With my eyebrows twitching from annoyance and anger at the System's stinginess, I felt like punching them in the face.

╔ System is always generous. ╝

" .... "

' Generous? Do you call this generous?! Why don't you just rob me in broad daylight?! '

Palming my forehead in frustration and the apathetic of the System, I shook my head. Arguing with a shameless System will do me nothing.

" Mom, I'm going outside for a walk, okay? "

" Sure thing, honey. Oh, take Miyu with you alright? Mommy needs to take care of a few things. "

Passing Miyu over, she heads off to the basement. Is she going to sell those berries? I was wondering what they're going to do with them, but it looks like they're going to sell it.

" Outside, outside! Are we going to play, oni-tan? "

Swinging her arms forward and backward, we exit the house.

" Not today, Miyu. We're going for a little walk. "

Crouching down to her level, I softly said.

' I wouldn't say it's for my side mission... stingy System. '

" Walk? No play? "

Tears start forming at the corner of her eyes as she hears what I said.

' Hahaha... '

' System! I need a bit of help! '

╔ System is unselfish, giving and a magnanimous one, so System will not interfere with Host's family affairs. ╝

' What utter bullshit! '

Viens appeared on my forehead as my eyes and mouth twitched in anger.

" Ahaha... I was just joking with you! Of course, we are going to play! "

Quickly coming up with a way to calm her down, I pat her head. The smoothness of her hair is something else, I could touch it all day.

Seemingly happy at my response, she became all happy.

" Oni-tan, oni-tan, let's gooo! "

Pulling my hand with all her strength, the frustrated Miyu is also cute.

' Ah, my anger dissipated. '

" Alright, alright, let's go. "

' I'll remember this, System! '

Thinking in my head, I drink the water bottle in my hand.

From the System's shameless reply, I almost spat the water I drunk, but I managed to contain most of it. Looking at me, Miyu tilted her head to the side cutely as a question mark appears above her head.

Swallowing the rest of the water, I push the thoughts to the back of my mind and stood up. Leading Miyu by the hand, we walked around the little town surrounded by plains, farms, rivers and forests.

Along our short walk, when wild Pidgeys or Spearows flew overhead, Miyu would excitedly scream and point to them.

' Can I befriend a wild Pidgey? Maybe. What about a Spearow? Nah, impossible. '

Remembering a fragmented piece of memory on how Ash Ketchum almost died to a Spearow, I quickly extinguish that thought. I don't want to die to a Spearow, I have a bright future ahead of me!

" By the way, where's Little Brown? "

Muttering to nobody in particular, I look overhead. I didn't see him this morning and during breakfast too.

" Little Brown is here! Ehehe! "

I thought nobody could hear me but it looks like Miyu heard me. Taking the Pokeball out from her small leather bag with one strip hanging onto her shoulder, she raised it to the air.

With one arm on her waist and the other in the air, she lets out a cheerful laugh. She sort of reminds me of those haughty people, but from her, it's adorable! Looking at me with her shiny clear blue eyes waiting for praise, I pat her head.

" Mhn, mhn. You are awesome! "

" Ehehehe~ Okay, Little Brown, come out! "

Throwing the Pokeball from her small, fair and slender hand, a brown bird came out with a lustrous light when the Pokeball opened.

" Pigey! "

Coming out from his red and white Pokeball that dad gifted for Miyu, Little Brown quickly rose into the air and flew in circles above us. Walking over and picking up the empty Pokeball, I handed it to Miyu and we continued our peaceful walk, but this time, with Little Brown flying above us.

" Ah? "

Looking to where Miyu was pointing to, I saw a fish with red scales, yellowfins and two yellow long whiskers. A Magikarp being fried... Such as life.

' Amen. I thank thee for thou sacrifice. May thee find 't peace from above. '

Along with the steam rising into the clear blue sky, I thought I saw it wave me over as well as tempted me as my stomach rumbled from the smell. Even though I just ate breakfast a while ago, I'm hungry again! Feeling a bit embarrassed, I gave a slight chuckle to disperse the awkward atmosphere.

" Oni-tan, oni-tan can we eat it?! "

Rubbing her small belly with her hand, she looks at me with expected eyes.

" Mhn, mhn! Sure we can! "

I'm also hungry! Let's eat it together!

" Yay! Oni-tan daisuki desu! "

Letting go of her hand, she took off running towards the stall. Going after her, I called over Little Brown. I wonder how much it'll cost... hopefully not much... Looking at the Pokedollars I've accumulated so far, a sigh escapes my lips.

With how much I get from completing side missions and the main mission, my total Pokedollars only adds up to 1,210¥.

" Hohoho! Such a nice little lass! Come, come, these Magikarps are only 15 Pokedollars! They're freshly caught from the sea, mixed with spices and seasons! I guarantee they will taste great! Buy them before they're all out! Hahahaha! "

" Hehe~ "

Seeing Miyu, the middle age stall owner threw out compliments and it worked! Holding onto her cheeks with both of her hands, a pink hue covers her cheeks.

' System, deduct 15 Pokedollars. '

Not wanting to show how money just magically appears, I

stick my hand into my pant's pocket and a second later I felt the texture of Pokedollars on my hand and brought it out.

" Hohoho! Thanks for your patronage! "

Laughing, the owner handed over a Magikarp pierced by a stick through the mouth and out its end and took the 15 Pokedollars.

Handing 15 of my hard earned Pokedollars away, it felt like an invisible arrow pierce my heart. Ah! My Pokedollars! My hard earned Pokedollars! Crying internally from the loss, I quickly got my act together. I can always get more anyways...

Taking the fried Magikarp and a recyclable plate, I led Miyu and Little Brown to an empty bench by the side. Placing the Magikarp on the table, I split the Magikarp into halves for Little Brown, Miyu and me.

Grabbing onto her part and bitting onto it, Miyu's hand became greasy with oil along with her mouth and cheeks. Little Brown is also pecking at the flesh while making his Pidgey noises.

' Is it really that good? Although I haven't eaten Magikarps before, I can imagine they taste just like fish. Ah, when was the last time I tasted fish? '

Watering at the thought, I too, quickly ate my portion of the Magikarp. Indeed, as I have thought, it tasted just like fish. Maybe just a bit better? I can't quite tell, but I can feel it.

╔ From the assessment, this fried Magikarp can be considered as mediocre. A score of 3/5 is more generous than it should have been while a mediocre fish back on Earth score 2/5. However, in the end, it still depends on the chef on how they cook it. ╝

' .... '

' Nobody asked for your opinion! And don't even talk about generous! Hmph! '

Taking a bite, the spice quickly hit my taste buds. It's... wonderful! The soft and white texture of the flesh. There are almost no bones in it! And the skin, it's great!

Quickly finishing it, I threw the plate and the leftovers to the nearby trash bin and brought Miyu to a nearby river. Little Brown is still eating so I left him by himself.

Washing our hands and faces with the cool flowing river, I saw a few wild Magikarps swimming underneath the surface and for a split second, I thought about catching them and bringing them home for dinner. But then I remembered, I don't have a Pokemon and Little Brown won't even be able to attack them either as his only skills right now were [Peck] and [Gust].

Sigh!

" That was so good! "

After washing and wiping the water off, Miyu exclaimed.

" Mhm, it was good. "

Thinking back, it does taste good. Though it could also be because I haven't eaten fish in a long time. Looking over to Little Brown, there was another Pidgey with him. The wild Pidgey wants a bite of the fried Magikarp but Little Brown doesn't want to share.

" Waaah! It's another Pigay~ "

Pointing over, Miyu's big blue eyes sparklez.

"Let's wait and see what happens, alright? "

" But, I want to go! "

"Let's just wait a bit more and then we'll go, how about that? "

" Mmmmm, okay! "

Seeming to come to a conclusion, her frustrated look disappears.

It took a few seconds of pestering from the wild Pidgey before Little Brown finally collapsed. Little Brown gave the signal with his body language and the wild Pidgey quickly hopped over and started to eat with zeal.

" Okay, let's go over. "

" Horaay! Let's go! Let's go! "

Coming over, the wild Pidgey senses us and was about to fly off but after seeing that Little Brown wasn't moving an inch, it stayed put.

Seeing that we weren't doing anything but watching, the wild Pidgey continued to eat. But they would keep an eye on us all the time. Within the next minute, they completely finished the Magikarp leaving nothing my pristine shiny white bones behind.

Finished with the Magikarp, the wild Pidgey and Little Brown flew into a tree. A few seconds later and a lotta noises, Little Brown flew out and came back while the wild Pidgey flew out and away.

' What the fuck just happened? '

╔ It would seem that Little Brown and the wild Pidgey just had birb sex. ╝

' I don't need you to tell me something as obvious as that! '

Leading Miyu back home, I took a glance at my wristwatch and found that 3 hours had passed since I went out. How? How did 3 hours pass? I thought it was only 30 minutes! Gobsmacked, I quickly took Miyu home.

Fortunately, mom and dad weren't home yet so I felt relieved. They would have turned the whole town upside down just to search for us. Turning on the television, I watch the currently aired Pokemon Championship Battle.

The battle was of Claude, a Pokemon Trainer who acquired 8 Gym Badges battling against Lorelei, one of the current Elite 4. Claude was a man in his 30's using a team of Alakazam, Golem, Blastoise, Gengar, Gyarados and Arcanine. While Lorelei's team consist of Dewgong, Cloyster, Slowbro, Jynx and a Lapras.

The battle took only half an hour before Claude was utterly defeated.

' Lorelei is strong. Stronger than I imagined... And, she looks younger too, maybe in her early 20's? '

Her fiery long red hair, phoenix eyes and along with her exquisite figure sends a jolt through my body. It wasn't just her appearance, her personality and the way she carries herself, I don't know why but I just...

' I like her! '

Thinking about it, the only thought that came to me was just that. I like her. There were no ifs and there were no why, it just--just happens. It's interesting how life works it's wonders.
