Chapter 172: Practice, practice, practice

Coughing out blood, Shane looked at Frer as if she had betrayed him. He replied sulkily,

"That last punch was definitely not restricted!!"

He tried to get back on his feet and was only glad that nothing seemed to be broken in his body.

If he cracked a rib or fractured a bone right now, it would require at least a few days to heal, even with the Shirai academy's medic team and their huge, high-technology infirmary.

Thankfully, his limbs were intact for now which caused him to sigh in relief. As he tried to suppress the pain he saw Frer look at him with guilt in her eyes. With a worried face, she apologized to him profusely.

This made him uncomfortable as he just said,

"Can you please calm down? It's not like you wanted to kill me. Furthermore, sustaining injuries is not uncommon during a spar, right?"

His words calmed her a bit though she still felt bad that she wasn't able to hold back completely as Shane's feint had almost worked out.

Shaking her head, she realized that Shane had not noticed what had happened.

"Did you notice that you had subconsciously released a complex bloodlust without having established it before? If you use what you felt earlier, the bloodlust you establish will be extremely profound!"

Hearing Frer, only confirmed his assumption and he nodded his head.

Based on what he had felt earlier, now he knew how he wanted his own bloodlust to become!

Taking freedom as the foundation, he also wanted to use his desire to fight someone stronger and to never lose something he desired to win as something similar to a sub-theme to support the foundation.

This might as well become a disadvantage. However, based on what he had felt before, Shane couldn't help but think that it was the only way he wanted to establish his bloodlust.

That way, it would either turn out as a success or failure, which was a gamble he was willing to take.

While he was in his train of thoughts, Frer had already retrieved a first aid kit that almost everyone had.

The kit included almost everything required to prevent infections from all kinds of injuries one might sustain inside the Primordial Dimensions.

It was common for a beast to transfer lots of unknown bacteria by injuring their opponent and it would be bad to have an inflamed injury.

As such, it was better to tend even shallow cuts by disinfecting them at the bare minimum.

Frer noticed that he was in his own world of thoughts as she handed the kit to Shane so he could tend to his injuries.

When he wouldn't move, she shrugged her shoulders before she began to tend his wounds.

Frer was only able to do so because her unique ability was still activated and her shyness was switched off.

Otherwise, she would never dare to do something like this because it already took her a lot of willpower to do it, even after turning off her shyness.

Carefully cleaning the small cuts she had inflicted on Shane's fair skin, Frer only now noticed that his skin was not only fair but also flawless.

How should she have known that Shane's seemingly flawless skin was decorated with many small scars and blisters? The arduous combat training with his aunt Lory and uncle Cheng had given him several small injuries. They had ruthlessly trained him to help him increase his battle awareness and combat experience because there was always someone nearby to help them.

It was not that they tortured him but it was almost impossible to avoid boils and shallow injuries during a combat lesson that took several hours at once.

Once Frer was done tending to Shane's cuts, she retreated, sighed deeply before she took a deep breath.

'This idiot can't even take care of himself?!!?' She thought, only to brush away the 'idiot'

'He is not someone ordinary, huh?' She looked intently at Shane who hadn't even noticed that she had tended his wounds. Frer shook her head slightly as she stepped back to pick a camping chair.

Sitting on the chair, she waited patiently for Shane to finish comprehending more about the bloodlust he wanted to establish.

**

Lunchtime passed and Frer decided to eat something, even if it was not required.

However, she couldn't cultivate next to Shane who had greedily absorbed every single mana particle in his surroundings.

If she were to cultivate right now, a distance of more than 100 meters from Shane would probably be the bare minimum.

It was still difficult to understand everything about the world seed inside Shane, or whatever it was. But, she was fully aware that it was an extremely rare opportunity for him to become stronger.

That is to say, if his world seed didn't require more mana than it could absorb inside the Basic Dimensions, which would be extremely bad.

Frer scanned her surroundings to see if other beasts had sensed their presence because Shane's high mana absorption might have attracted them.

Fortunately enough, this didn't happen. Shane sat mulling over everything for a while before he opened his eyes.

His eyes met Frer's that had been lingering on his face for quite some time now. Embarrassed, she leaned back on the camping chair, which fell over, toppling her to the ground.

She heard Shane chuckle as he asked.

"Are you fine?"

Shane was already standing, holding out his hand to help her up with a teasing smile on his face. At that moment, she wanted the earth to swallow her whole instead of letting him watch her die in mortification.

He helped Frer get back on her feet and seeing her turn beet-red tried, he tried not to smile and asked,

"I don't think we should continue to spar like this until I can sense my bloodlust better. It won't help me if you beat me up every time, which would only result in a wastage of more time….Hunting groups of beasts might be better for now, don't you think?"

Smiling lightly at her, he tried to suppress his laughter as he remembered how Frer had looked when she had fallen over.

Frer only wanted to hide in the most secluded place, where nobody would ever find her, and she only nodded her head at Shane's proposal.

Practicing what one comprehends was always the best and testing it out with some beasts would only help in finding flaws.

Furthermore, it would also help in figuring out how efficient his current bloodlust was and the best way to utilize it.

Based on the Slaughterer's Path technique Shane had read, he knew that it would be best if one's bloodlust and killing intent were compatible with each other.

This was to instantly intertwine them without any obstruction. To him, it seemed that even Frer's bloodlust-killing-intent was not perfectly compatible with each other.

Shane didn't need to have a perfect compatibility of the two techniques right off the bat.

Instead, he wanted them to slowly adjust to each other while strengthening their perks.

The only thing he had to pay attention to was that the adjustment couldn't be done in a single day and that he would have to be patient.

Even a small obstacle might create larger disturbances which were not something he wanted.

With that in mind, Shane's highest priority, for now, was to establish complex bloodlust without caring about anything else.

Practicing was what he required the most and fighting beasts in a life and death battle was seen as the easiest way to understand if he was on the right path or not.
