Teren didn't think there was anything wrong with what he said, therefore, he simply replied-
"We can just kill them once no one's looking."
He spoke in a matter-of-fact tone. But the way Seres looked at him with both shock and terror told him that something was wrong.
Without any more word, Seres parked the bumper car and got out. Teren got nervous that he got his sister angry.
"Hey, Seres, what's wrong?"
He asked but she just glanced at him with a glare before murmuring only the two of them can hear.
"Let's go somewhere private."
"..."
The two went to the lounge where they have a free pass. Sitting on the corner where there are no people nearby, Seres ordered and Teren did as well. Once the waiter in that lounge went off with their order, the little sister finally spoke-
"Teren, are you really thinking of killing those children?"
"If you want to... but it doesn't seem that way."
"..." Seres fell silent for a while. At first, she was shocked, but now, she seemed to be devastated.
"As I said," she then continued, "I just got my instinct over me. I was trained to be ready at any situation before you erased your existence."
"... what do you mean?"
Realizing what she just said, Seres looked away in embarrassment before deeply breathing that calmed her down.
"I've never wanted to kill a child. But if I want to, would you kill them?"
"Is it bad that... I will?"
Teren cautiously said, not finding anything wrong with it. He then continued, feeling that he should reason himself.
"But if you don't, I'm really the type to kill people that don't bother me. I don't think I will meet those children again in the future so I'll let them off the hook."
"Teren..." Seres clenched her fists, "They are children."
"..."
"How can you actually think of killing them? Tell me you're joking."
"Sorry... but I don't really understand."
"They are innocent children." Seres repeated. It was common sense and she wanted to get the point into Teren's head. However, she cannot explain it any further because it is what it is.
"Seres," Teren looked at her with a serious expression, "When I was just a child, I've already killed people. Everyone's innocent at first."
"What are you trying to say?"
Seres asked in disbelief. What Teren said is reasonable. But no matter what the logic is, innocent children are innocent children. No matter how obnoxious they are, killing them is just plain evil.
Teren said no further as he slowly shook his head in apology. Towards other people, he just can't feel empathy. Only when Iesa came into his life, he thought he could change it. He even thought of befriending Nick, not binding the others to contract, and even sparing off his enemy once. Although the last one have severe consequences, he was relieved that he can still control himself.
"So this is what you turned out to be..."
Seres had her eyes cast down, dispirited. After a long silence, she then looked at him and asked a very heavy question.
"If I show any malicious intent, would you kill me too?"
But, unexpectedly, there was no hesitation when Teren said-
"Of course not."
"..."
"I know the words from someone who killed his own parents are doubtful but... I don't even have the thoughts like that. I just want my..." Teren felt shy about what he was about to say but he still continued, "only family left to forgive me... but I know it's not possible, considering what I've done."
"You're wrong."
Teren's eyebrows lifted when Seres replied something that he didn't expect. He's wrong what?
"You're wrong."
Seres repeated with emotionless eyes that didn't look at Teren's.
Soon, the waiter came and give them their order.
"Excuse me for a moment."
Seres stood up and went to the restroom. Teren was left pondering about what she said. Do Seres mean that forgiving him is possible? That doesn't seem like it. So is his words not doubtful? Teren has no idea.
Because of him, thinking, he didn't realize that time soon passed by and Seres was back as if nothing happened.
"It's almost noon. Should we still go around the park before eating?"
"..." Teren has no idea what was going inside Seres' head, however, since she's still willing to spend the day with him, he couldn't help but smile, "Sure, let's go."
After finishing up their drinks, rejuvenated, they went off to try other games. On a particular stand that offers prizes if the player hits the target with a plastic gun, Seres' interest was piqued. However, she just passed by it.
"Want to try that?"
Teren noticed this reaction of hers and decided to suggest the shooting game himself.
"If you want to."
Seres said which Teren nodded in reply and led her there.
"Beautiful couple right over there, shoot the cans down, accumulate points, and you may win these prizes displayed over here!"
The stand owner pointed at the shelf of prizes. There were prizes as small as candies and the big ones were teddy bears that's as big as Seres.
"... beautiful couple..."
Teren glanced at Seres when she murmured that. As expected, she seemed a little bit angry at the stand owner for calling them a couple which didn't bother Teren that much. And what he noticed more is that her eyes were glued to the biggest prize.
'I see... I still remember her always hugging her favorite teddy back then if I'm not around.'
Teren thought and said to the stand owner.
"How much?"
"Well, good sir, we have two types of game and the price depends on them. The first type is the limited bullets. You'll pay for the bullets but you can take your time. The second type, is as you can expect, unlimited bullets. However, you will be racing against 30 seconds. I suggest the second type since that is the only way to accumulate points without restrain if you're good enough. So, are you up to the challenge?"
The stand owner explained with a smile while tending other players' needs too.
Teren and Seres glanced at each other. Of course, they would pick the second type.
"Seres, want to make a bet."
"You're thinking the same way as I do."
Seres replied with confidence before asking.
"What do you want?"
"If I win, let's meet up again like this. It could be in an amusement park again but it could also be at the zoo or at an aquarium."
"Then if I win, you'll have to break up with your girlfriend."
