Later in the evening, the men that we had sent off earlier came back. Townsend Harris was waving his hands as he had 10 men with him as described at what we had needed from him earlier. The tanuki having his youkai's temporarily being able to be manipulated within the protective barrier of the town landed gently near the business conference building.
I paid for the services rendered by the tanuki and he bowed and left. "How was the trip, Gentlemen?" I asked as they finally stood up on the solid ground. "Glad to be alive..." someone spoke up. Well, what do you expect since they are exposed to the elements of nature, the sun and the wind? However, they were glad to be in one piece, after all.
"Your Fasuto Japan Airways is fantastic! Not only it is fast, but it is efficient too. Its a straight beeline from here unlike using the roads that would be curvy and treacherous for the horses and carriages some times." Townsend Harris complimented on his trip as it was his second, after all.
"I'm glad you liked it, Mr Townsend. Since its dinner time, please... Be our guest and gather inside. Dinner would be served very soon." I invited the men inside and the 4 Execom had just finished their presentation and collected the orders from the ladies.
They gave me a final figure and then headed to pass the orders for the storekeeper to prepare 18 wagons filled with the appropriate orders. 4 were repeat orders, while 14 were the new ones. Their total sales figure for today was more than 5 million gold coins.
"Well done guys, come join us for dinner... The more the merrier. You may send these ladies up to their rooms first and if they need anything else like food, they should know where to head down... To the 3rd floor of the community buildings."
I said and the 4 Execom showed there their rooms were and told them that these men would also be joining to stay. There would some guards stationed so they won't be trying to pull a fast one on the ladies.

The 'aunties' were busy serving up dinners and were assisted by the plant supervisors and trays of food were brought in. We're having yakisoba tonight and supper was served as well. It was this glutinous colourful layered pudding that was prepared by the 'aunties' and a tray of those were brought in.
The pieces of layered pudding cake were deftly sliced and distributed on an oval stoneware and several wooden picks were placed on top of it. This time, the slices were in perfect 2x2cm squares. Each piece had a wooden pick on it.
Also, there was a pineapple drink that had been prepared by them. Chunks of pineapple slices were placed inside several jugs and it was sweetened with white sugar. There were also grilled sweet corn, grilled sweet potatoes and steamed yam to accompany our light dinner.
After dinner, and after the aunties and plant supervisors had cleared the banquet table, we all sat back inside and made ourselves comfortable. "Mr Townsend, you wanted to show us something earlier?" I opened up my speech as I saw that the contents of the caravans were nearly forgotten.
"Ah... Hang on, Your Excellency, I'd get the men to help me hoist these things over..." Townsend Harris gestured for some of the mechanical engineers to follow him as he went to fetch the steam engine out from the caravan.
After a while, he set it up in the courtyard and we all went there for the demonstration. Some of the employees had helped to light the lanterns around the perimeter and it was bright enough for us to see.
"As you can see Your Excellency, this is a steam engine that....." Townsend Harris began to narrate and was rudely interrupted by me.
"I know what is a steam engine and I know what it does... But what I want to know is, could your Mechanical Engineers do this? Come... Take a look at my cartoon drawings and you get the picture."
I showed them my drawings and my idea and they looked at it and felt dumbfounded. It was like their very own back in their hometown and it was used to draw up water for land fulling and also to grinding corn and wheat. They even asked how I knew about it and my design seemed to be better than their current models at home.
"We wanted to harness the Wind Technology to generate electricity and these steam engines would be our backup resources. Do you get what I mean? We don't need Mills or anything at this moment, Can you do it?"
The mechanical engineers took my sketchpad and began to write some symbols that represent wattage and ohms and all sorts of things which I'm ignorant about and lastly after 10-15 minutes of brainstorming by the Mechanical Engineering guys, they soon came out with a feasible solution. Yes, they can do it.
It is going to be a 3 bladed windmill at a height of 50 meters with a moveable top head which they called a smock. It will follow the direction where the wind is blowing by the help of tailwind blades. The single rotation of the blade would be able to turn the spindle block within and generate enough electricity to light up at least 500 light bulbs.
"As you can see, Your Excellency, our light bulbs are only about 10-15 Watts and these Wind Technology would generate enough power to light up 500 light bulbs. These generators would generate 5kw of power. That's pretty decent. To regular the power, each of the generators would pass through a terminal that regulates the flow of electricity. So when the switch is thrown open, the surge of electricity would not be blowing off the light bulbs."
"That's great. Can you build them and also build these generators from scratch?" I asked and the answers were astonishing indeed. "We are the ones who build these steam engines, Your Excellency."
"Do you have families?" I asked them and 1 had while the other 5 were still single.
"Would you like to put up with a temporary residence here, and offer you a piece a house where you could stay and eventually set up your own families?"
I asked them the ultimate question. The men knew of how brainy I was from Townsend Harris when he gathered the men and briefed them en route here. He warned them not to be obnoxious and remain humble. Since the men had been briefed, they were surprised that I could come up with a drawing of a Wind Machine that could generate electricity well.
Furthermore, they were rather questionable about my age against my experience and they almost thought that I was a dwarf which was actually older than I actually looked.
The ultimate was passed and another one came out. "How does 10 gold coins a month sound to you? A single gold coin may be worth 1.5 times against your greenbacks, so basically, you would be earning 350 dollars based on your greenbacks. That's a whole cartload of money for a month's pay...!" I said and the moment I mentioned about greenbacks and the gold, they were ecstatic and all said 'YES'! ' simultaneously.
"Mr Townsend, these 6 men would be the permanent residents of Japan and also part of Fasuto Japan KabushikiGaisha. We only need men and women who would be suitable to contribute to the economy, not just men and women who can just take up residency here in Japan."
"Regard this as a lesson to you and make a note to those who wanted to be residents here. Contribution to the economy is of greater influential that those with wealth. If you want to know wealth, study how much we would earn in a single transaction. Your eyes would bulge out indefinitely."
"Alright men, please give us your name, family name, age, date of birth, and your original hometown and trade profession here with our gentlemen here, Hiko-sama. You would be the first 6 that we brought in voluntarily to be part of Fasuto Japan KabushikiGaisha. As to the one who has a family, bring them along. A one-bedroom unit for the singles and 2 bedroom unit for the family."
The other men that made up of the ship's members all looked in surprise that I could work so easily with the foreigners but with very strict rules and regulations.
"To all new immigrants of New Kitakata Town, please make sure you behave yourself. If your unsure of any single thing, please ask Yours Truly here. I will personally groom you to be a good citizen here. Don't expect you know everything and in the end, you knew nothing. Don't assume... Don't make an ass out of you and me. Is that clear?"
"Yes, Yours Truly...."
