299 7.27 Finally, I'sve Got A System...!

"Hmph...there's more than 5 adventures gathering there and they were having some sort of feast...damn my growling stomach...be still or it will give my position away...!"

I was lying down on my stomach and was making myself as small as I could to appear unnoticeable. The distance was about 100 or more meters and I could count the number of heads that we're bobbing around as they shared stories of their cock and bull adventures.

The blazing campfire could even cast clearly on their faces and of course, I wasn't able to distinguish any of them with the adventurers I had befriended some time ago and had long been muted off.

I took the time to slowly delete them off my buddy list since they find that having an adventurer armed with a quarterstaff would bring them little to no benefits at all. "What the hell do they expect me to be? A pay to win adventurers like those other rich and fat kids?"

I thought to myself as I had cleared off all those weird sounding names off the buddy list as I lay down as still as possible and continue to observe them.

It was well over an hour before a group of adventurers departed from the group. "Where are they heading in the middle of the night like this? Are they going to grind monsters to level up or gather their spoils?"

I observed 7 adventurers wandered off in a straight line away from the encampment and saw two only two heads sitting around the campfire. Then 1 stood up and went to the side of the stream to perform some washings.

"They don't look too hostile to me...if there's more of them I don't think I have the guts to approach them but since it's just left the two of them, I guess they are much more approachable than before."

I slowly picked myself up and crouched walked towards the encampment. Only the wide stream separates them and me.

.....

"Matilda, someone is approaching on the other side of the riverbank. Just act normal and pretend nothing is going on. He's not that of an imposing figure and I guess he's a human adventurer just like us." I whispered to Matilda as I made a lump of mud and place it on a blunt arrowhead and it looked like a lollipop.

"If I let loose this arrow, it would not kill but it's sure going to cause a hell of indescribable pain and a welt that would go down in a week. A blunt arrow would be like a poke, but with lollipop head, it's going to be like a punch...!" I said to myself as I took cover and trained my bow and arrow at the crouching figure that's slowly stalking and approaching our general direction.

The figure stopped near the riverbank on the opposite side and squatted on one knee and spoke up, "Excuse me, kind adventurers. I am a weary adventurer that had come from lands many hundred miles away and I had been trampling aimlessly looking for others to join and be part of any expeditions. I have not eaten a proper meal and I had spent all my coins to buy tomatoes in the market of Ackworth."

"I come in peace and I would like to share the warmth of the campfire and if you are so kind to provide me with scraps and morsels of leftover food, I would be of your kind service. Please...may I cross over and join you?"

Hearing those words reminded me of how I used to be hopeless and penniless when I started off in the 5th series of this novel. If not because of a Samurai named Hiko Seijuro, I would be left for dead and became vulture's next feast.

This fancy pants medieval English fantasy game is really a harsh world. You could become a decorative Halloween's skeleton at someone's front door if you are not careful. It's not as bad being a skeleton in some high school's science lab.

"Hold it right there, who are you? Identify yourself." I instructed to the looming figure across the river bank and stood up from the place I was hiding from, while Matilda ran over to my side while clutching the pommel of the sword in her sides.

The looming figure slowly stood up holding his quarterstaff as a support and he bowed low as he introduced himself, "My name is Jean Lethal and I hail from Port Isaac. I am a squider and had just joined being an adventurer, persuaded by a character named Gambit. I sold off my boat and all my possessions in search for the better future."

"John Little? The known right-hand lieutenant of Robin?"

"Not John but Jean in French and it's Lethal like in Lethal Weapon not in 'little' as in a little boy or a little rabbit."

"Ah...I get it. A variation of the John Little I had in mind earlier. So, Jean Lethal or should I address you as JL...are you not in a party of some kind?"

"Who would need someone with just a basic quarterstaff to join their band? If I'm equipped with a sword, then it would be a different story altogether."

"Here...take this board and kneel on it like a wakeboard, a squidder should know what I mean. Wait...I will toss you this twine and pull you across." I kicked a plank across the river and it skimmed gracefully until it reached JL across the riverbank.

I then tossed the twine to him and he held on fast as he kneeled on the plank just midway kf the bank and the river, the front end of the plank was lifted at an angle. "Good...he knows what a wakeboard is." I thought to myself.

"Ready now..." as I held the twine taut and then I pulled it using my body weight while running in the other direction, and soon the plank that JL was kneeling on skimmed the surface and reached the other side safely and dry.

The moment JL had reached the other side of the river and placed the plank he had used and lay it against a tree trunk, I sauntered over and withdraw my sword and pointed at his chest, just touching the clothes.

Matilda stood there wide-eyed as she saw me pointing my sword at JL's chest. "Alright...out with it...coins, rings, gems, hidden weapons, et cetera, et cetera..." I instructed to JL and suddenly he broke down as he thought he had fallen into a trap as he removed his empty coin pouch, his storage bag that contained a few tomatoes and lay down his quarterstaff.

"Em...check his storage bag if he got anything valuable in it and check his pouch too in case he has some gold dust or something in it." I didn't use Matilda's full name as I instructed Matilda to check everything and making sure that what he had said before was true.

It's not easy to trust any stranger, especially a human adventurer.

"Nothing here, R...he seems to be clean. He looks rather ragged though and seemed to crawl from his hiding place right to the edge of the river bank. Look...he might have rolled himself over some deer shit or something...! Eeewwwww..."

I placed my sword back in its scabbard and tell the man to stand up and clean his slobbering face. "So Jean Lethal or aka JL, and that's your real name and not some made-up random generic name? How did you end up being so poor and pathetic right now?"

"In just three months, you managed to squander off all your savings and ends up with mere tomatoes in your storage bag? What's the capacity of your storage, the attributes of your quarterstaff and your level?"

"It's my luck to pool my resources in a band that I was in before and when I was killed by a best before I respawn in Leeds, I was disbanded and all my resources kena chongkong or never returned to me. My storage bag is a 5x5 capacity and is able to hold up to 255 items per slot. My quarterstaff was of Low quality that I had bought it the first time and my current level is 1.8."

"Eeehhh....you can know of your level so easily? How do you do that? How come I don't even know what is my own levels?"

"It's simple, just press 'C' to bring up the character menu and from there you can already see your attributes of your skills and levels. Press 'I' to go to Inventory and you can choose which one you want to trade and so on. Press 'H' and it will bring you to a help menu and the list of all shortcut keys."

I plopped down on the trunk stool and thought that this is sure becoming into fancy pants medieval English fantasy game after all...I gestured him to join me for a cup of freshly brewed sweetened tea and he gladly extended his hands to retrieve it.

"Can I trade with you for your storage bag? I have a 5 slot storage bag and I really need a higher capacity storage bag. How about we do a barter trade?"

"That would be fine to me since it's my last piece of investment. What's the capacity of your storage bag?"

"It's the basic one I got. it has 5 slots and each slot can carry 25 items only. Do you think it's alright with you? I mean I won't imply anything on you to agree in bartering with me. I'll even throw in 10 shillings for you."

Hearing the mention of the 10 siblings made Jean Lethal's eyes lit up and he immediately agrees. "Yes, R...I gladly accept the trade of my storage bag with yours to an addition of 10 shillings. Shall we make a trade now?"

Making a trade involves revealing my identity but for the sake of a larger storage bag with an enormous amount of items that could be stored per slot, I gladly accepted the trade request and completed it.

"This is Matilda. She is my left-hand lieutenant and my wife to be. She's a swordswoman and she hailed from York."

"I am Robin the Firestarter, a swordsman and Bowman, a crafter and trader plus many things, and I am at your service. Welcome to our trading post at Flintstone. Yabadaba Doo...!"

"Matilda, could you prepare a bowl of gruel for this gentleman here? I'm sure he needs sustenance than just tomatoes here."

I finally formally introduced myself and informed Matilda to serve our guest as I made a trade request with Matilda and received her bag of 5x3 with 99 caps per slot. She immediately moved her stuff around and handed me her emptied storage bag.

Alright...at least we are so-called equally equipped with good weapons, tools and storage bags.

"Could I ask a question, more like a favour from you, Robin?"

"Yeah, speak your mind..." I replied.

"Could I join your band...?"Jean Lethal asked in a rather timid voice and was half anticipating a negative answer from me.

"Ask the missus if you are interested to be in a band..." I simply shot back a quick reply as I was playing with the interface that was mentioned by Jean Lethal and what I saw astonished me beyond belief...! It was simply comprehensive and I didn't know that the interface was simply filled with information that had been hidden from me for nearly a year over.
