Chapter 13:‘I can talk’

Name:Questing System Author:Ekeriel
Sana walked out of the room sighing heavily. Daedalus was too rattled at the moment to look past his selfishness and actually see that only by training could the damage done by his abilities be reduced. She walked into the living room to see Icarus sitting on the sofa by himself. She sat down beside him as she asked, 'do you hate dad?' He shook his head. It was quite obvious that he would do that. Even though that was the case, she could see the resentment in his eyes. Reaching out, she pinched his nose lightly. 'I told you that its not good to lie.' She then patted his head and sighed, 'you cannot blame him. When he was a child, his own father wasn't there for him. He had to compete with his brothers all the time and even his mother was neglected in the struggle.' Seeing Icarus actually paying, she shook her head. 'He treats you the way he always wanted to be treated by his father.' Seeing Icarus silent on this, she stood up, 'you put yourself in grave danger, I want you to keep that in mind before you think that your father is restrictive.' She started walking away when a voice echoed across the room, causing her to freeze.

'Mom, wait.'

The family of three were sitting on the table again. This time it was Icarus who was staring them in the eyes. 'So you could speak three months back?' Sana stared at him and he returned the gaze without flinching.

'Yes.'

'Then why didn't you?'

'I thought it wasn't a good idea given your reaction to my other powers.'

Sana stared at Icarus before moving her gaze towards Daedalus. She could tell that he wasn't comfortable with reprimanding Icarus about his powers. They were a part of him, so Daedalus thought that Icarus would eventually gain control over them naturally, like gaining control over an arm or a leg. He also wasn't willing to train Icarus because it could result in his background being found out. In all his selfishness, Daedalus forget to take into consideration that Icarus also had the intelligence of a normal adult; it would cause him to draw conclusions of his own.

'You don't need to hide your speech. Its perfectly normal for you to be able to speak.' Daedalus interrupted the silence.

'But...you want me to hide my other powers.' Daedalus flinched at this.

'I never told you to hide them. All I said was not to use them, until you gain more control over them.'

'How am I supposed to control them if I don't ever use them?'

He heaved an extremely heavy sigh at this. 'I guess Sana was right about this.' Taking a deep breath, he spoke. 'Very well. How about we train you to use your powers and in exchange you can't use your powers until we allow it?' Icarus' eyes were practically shining by the end of the sentence as he furiously nodded his head. 'Now get to sleep you little rascal.' Daedalus started chasing Icarus who laughed and ran from him. It was a rare sight to see them like this.

It was later that night, after making sure that Icarus had fallen asleep, Daedalus walked into their room and saw Sana sitting on their bed, smiling at him. 'I'm proud of you.' She snuggled up to him as they lay in bed. 'It took a lot of courage.'

'I just hope that we are doing the right thing.' He caressed her face gently, 'I don't want him to feel that we are prohibiting him from being the person he wants to be.'

She reached up and grabbed his hand. Gently planting a kiss on it, she leaned in close and whispered in his ears, 'we are doing the best for him. We are his parents after all.' He nodded and they both fell asleep, staring each other in the eye.

It was a misty morning when Icarus opened his eyes. Slowly sitting up, he stretched a bit before going to wash up and heading into the room for breakfast. After he had revealed his ability to speak, he had gained the very much wanted independence. It was still quite a comical site though, seeing a one or two year old looking boy walking around like an adult. He tittered and tottered his way to the bathroom where he brushed for the first time in his life by himself. It was a liberating feeling. After that, he walked into the dining room. Pulling up a chair, he had to climb it before being able to sit properly. His mother giggled as she placed the breakfast of porridge in front if him. 'How did you sleep last night honey?'

They lived in a big house with plenty of spare rooms and so Icarus was moved into one of the empty rooms last night after wrecking his own. Naturally they still used his mattress, which was in his cot, meaning that he slept quite soundly. 'Yeah, it was a great night sleep.' He smiled at her before digging in. His father also walked out from his room before his mother served him eggs and toast and they too started digging into their breakfasts. The whole family ate in silence, which was what they were used to. After finishing up, his mother took the plates off the table and cleaned before sitting back down. 'So, what is the plan for today?' He asked, barely being able to control himself. Sana and Daedalus looked at each other before laughing.

'Well, first of all I will teach you the basics.'

'The basics?' Icarus didn't know what he was expecting but hearing about this did cause him to feel slightly disappointed.

'Yep. You need to know the basics to learn anything else.' Daedalus raised an eyebrow at this but didn't say anything further.

'Then, it will be my turn.' His mother smiled at him, 'I will teach you how to control the elements properly.' He nodded, his hopes seemingly elevated.
