After watching his girl's eyes filled with tears he had no mood to observe anything else and just silently left the place.
Next morning he went to the interloper's room to tell her about the new schedule she would have to follow for the next few days. He could see her intention to win him over to his side by complying him with sweet talk. For the moment, she was telling him some random joke he had not interest in listening but he tried to bear it. Suddenly she called to someone outside. When he turned his head to see what had attracted her attention, he saw Yu Yue walking towards the staircase. She had a stiff curve to her lips while the sisters exchanged greetings. He had thought that Yu Yan just wanted to disgust the other person so as not to let them have a peaceful day but she went beyond that and pulled him into the talk. He really wanted to choke her neck when he was introduced as someone who should have been under the heir but was now currying favour with the new girl. He feared that this would leave a bad impression regarding him on Yu Yue. Reality once again slapped him in the face with the fact that his thoughts about the two girls were entirely wrong.
In case of Yu Yan's pettiness, he had thought too little and underestimated her andin case of Yu Yue, he had thought too much. From her raised eyebrow, a quick glance and the slight nod he after his greetings and belated birthday wishes he knew he had over estimated himself. It didn't matter to her if a person she had yet to be introduced was given away to someone else. Afterall, it wasn't as if she was close or had any prior talks with him. He derided himself, to her he was nothing more than a household staff so how could she place any kind of importance on him. He had known and watched her secretly for so long so how could he not know her dismissive attitude towards people she didn't place any kind of importance upon.
Thereafter, when uncle passed on her personal decision to look for assistants outside and that she wouldn't have him, for the first time he started second guessing himself. Had his decision to keep a close eye on the new girl lead to a negative impression of him in Yu Yue's eyes? Had he made a wrong decision in his haste? Or was it that she simply didn't want to use someone as a confidant who had worked for an outsider in her eyes?
In the next few days the other girl changed schools and he realised that she was just a small girl though with inclination towards the more negative emotions who was playing at an adult game. She was street smart but that was as far as she could see. Everyone in her school had an attitude of schadenfreude towards her and watching her as a side show attraction. But that idiot was floating on cloud nines as if she had leaped over the dragon gates. Anyway he didn't have the time or the heart to explain things to her. Let her experience a few ups and downs of this world to make her more grounded and keep her away from turning her attention towards the people living beside her.
To uncle and everybody else- be it the household staff, people working under or with the Yu Corporation and other affluent families it was as if a new addition to the family hadn't meant much to the eldest miss. Some thought it must be due to the fact that she was completely secure in the knowledge of her father's love and her position and some whispered it was due to fact that she was too high up to look down on a mere ant who had been brought up outside. All in all everybody believed that she hadn't taken the news to her heart and death it with the poise befitting of the next gen leader of Yu business. She had dealt with it admirably during her birthday banquet, no two ways about it and in day to day life she never made things difficult for the other girl and behaved as usual with just a touch of frostiness. But she had changed.
Not in a way most people noticed, but then not many people had years of experience watching Miss Yu Yue. They all watched her, even her adversaries outside who were sharpening their knives for the future war between them when they stood at the frontlines of their respective conglomerates. But they didn't really see. In fact Zixi thought he knew Yueyue better than anyone else maybe except for her father. If nothing had deviated from everyone's expectations and it was just her and uncle, things wouldn't be the way they were. He wouldn't have to put upwith a mindless girl daily. He wouldn't have to watch as the person in his heart closed herself from all the happening in her own home which should be her own domain. She would have started relying on him somewhat or atleast they would have become a bit familiar with each other a bit. That was what hurt him the most.
Maybe if the new girl wasn't here, she would have come to him for any kind of discussion. After their eighteenth birthday, the heir was expected to spend atleast two hours daily with their future right and left hands. He had ofcourse been brought up to expect that it would be the same for her and himself as well. He had been eagerly waiting and looking forward to lay the groundwork for future friendship. He would have taken it slow, granting her her every desire and educate her in all the ways a heir should act or behave and would have kept her away from any underhanded and secret deals.
He looked around his room and felt a keen sense of loneliness engulf him. All of his expectations and waiting had been in vain.
