"Tell me again, what are we doing here?" Mary is still confused about why her husband told her to cancel all her meetings for the rest of the day. She understands why she had to cancel her meeting someone important because she has to be there for her daughter, but she plans to continue her original schedule after that.
Who would have thought that her husband literally forced her to cancel everything she planned today.
"Today's the day, the truth will be revealed, my love," Arion said plainly. In his tone of voice, Mary noticed that there is a hint of anger. She wanted to give her husband a scolding for her not telling her what is really happening, but she held back.
Unlike her husband, she knows how to read people's moods. And thinking about that, she is still slightly upset that her husband has to mention Keila's past in front of everyone and especially to Keila who is still stuck in her past.
"Son, whatever you are doing, I hope it's not gonna affect me in a bad way." Ever since Arion told him that they are going somewhere place and that there is going to be a big reveal, Marcus is somewhat feeling nervous.
It's the same feeling when he thinks that something bad will happen to the people that he loves.
"I'm sorry, Father, but I think what's going to happen later, will surely break your heart. That's why I made sure to call the necessary help that you need just in case something bad happened to you." Behind that cold expressionless father of his, Arion knows deep well how his father cares for their family.
He feels bad about what is about going to happen, but it's better to let his father know about than letting him live his life not knowing what his older brother is doing behind the scenes. If he won't let him know, then it will only hurt him so deeply once he discovers it by himself.
Marcus wants to know more, but before he could even ask another question, they have already arrived at their destination. They are now currently at the Old Mansion of the Coleman family.
Seeing the cars that are parked in front of the Old Mansion, Marcus knew right away that there is going to be a meeting between higher-ups in the family. It's a tradition that whenever there is something to discuss, the Old Mansion is the place where the meeting should be discussing.
However, there is one thing that has been broken in their family tradition. The patriarch or the matriarch of the family should be the one leading the meeting.
Noticing that her father-in-law didn't have a clue that all of this is happening, Mary opens her mouth and asks, "Arion, did you arranged all of this by yourself?" By marrying into the Coleman family, Mary put a lot of effort into having to learn every traditional way of the Colemans.
"No. It's not me, but I do know what's the meeting is about." Arion is careful enough not to reveal who is the one held responsible for breaking the family tradition. He wants everyone, that is present, to know that his children are capable of uncovering a person's dirty secret all by themselves.
Once they have entered the biggest room inside the Old Mansion, a lot of stares are directed towards them. Some of those stares hint how greedy a person is, while some are just there to get things over.
"Cousin Marcus, it has been a very long time since we last saw each other!" An overly friendly old man suddenly stepped forward to give Marcus a hug, however, instead of receiving the hug, Marcus gave that old man a cold stare.
"Cousin Rent, I still remember telling you that I don't like receiving hugs." Marcus half-lied. What he truly meant is that he doesn't like receiving hugs from the people he doesn't like. Of course, most people in the room know that fact, but for some reason, his cousin Rent doesn't like to take a hint.
"Hohoho! Cousin, you are as grumpy as ever! When will you start getting soft? You're already at the age where you should be receiving and giving love to those who are closest to you." Knowing what kind of a man Rent is, everyone in the room can see through his words. Rent's words actually mean that he wishes for Marcus to die already so that the main forces of the Coleman family will weaken.
Enraged by the words coming out of Rent's mouth, the Coleman twins, Anna and Aaron, stepped forward and faces Rent.
"Pardon me for intruding your conversation with my grandfather, however, just like you said, my grandfather is already at that age." Anna's voice of voice is the same when Marcus was rejecting Rent's advances, it surprised almost everyone in the room. "I'm sure that my grandfather would rather take a seat than to talk to while standing."
"Please. Be more concerned about my grandfather's health." Aaron said with an expressionless face. As soon as he said that, he helped his grandfather to sit on the patriarch chair.
"You do know that I'm not that weak, right?" Marcus whispered to Aaron. Although he is at that age, that doesn't mean that he is weak and his health is not good. His grandchildren's comment somehow makes him feel a little bit upset.
"I know, but grandfather, I hate it when one person actually wishes for you to die soon," Aaron whispered back.
"What you and your sister just said is only making them excited." Saying that he is weak in front of everyone is only encouraging those greedy people to wish him to have an early death. He understands that his grandchildren don't like those kinds of comments, but it can't help when there is one relative who is very greedy.
"True. But you don't have to worry about that. Let them dream about your death all they want because I can assure you that they will be regretting having that kind of thought." Aaron said with a smirk on his face.
"Cousin Marcus, it seems like your grandchildren are taught well." Rent who is not fazed why the twin's cold treatment, still wants to continue to have a good conversation with Marcus.
Marcus, on the other hand, really wants to kick Rent out of the Old Mansion because of his annoying presence. He clearly doesn't want to talk, and yet, his cousin is persisting to have a conversation with him.
Although he is itching to have Rent go back home, Marcus is somewhat intrigued by what kind of opinion does he have on his grandchildren. "Of course. After all, they are the future of our family. It's only natural that they should be taught well."
"Dear cousin, while it is true that they are taught well, however, how can you be sure that they are gonna bring a great future for the sake of our family name?" There was a glint in Rent's eyes as he asked the question.
In his opinion, Anna and Aaron are just a member of the main branch of the family, they are taught well for the sake of their family's name. Rent actually thinks that the twins are not good at anything at all. And the things that he sees in the articles are all lies.
He refuses to believe that a member of the main branch is actually better than his grandchildren.
"Rent, are you saying that my grandchildren only know how to put on a face and doesn't actually do anything great?" With that question alone, Rent took a hint that he pushed the button that he shouldn't have. Marcus looks like he is about to burst out in anger because of what he just said.
Rent wanted to rephrase himself to get him out of trouble, but his wife stopped him from speaking. She doesn't want to speak any further because Rent is the type of person who speaks first before thinking.
"Cousin-in-law, I'm sure my husband didn't mean it like that. As a part of the Coleman family, my husband and I are only worried about our family's name. It's only natural to ask that kind of question." Out of all the people in the room, Rent's wife, Marietta, is the most cunning one. She knew exactly what to say to praise or to ruin someone.
Marietta is one of the main reasons why Marcus is wary about the branch family. Marietta is also the reason why his wife got into an accident back in their younger days. 'Whenever she speaks, she ruins my mood in an instant.' Marcu inwardly said.
"Whether he doesn't mean it that way or not, I can assure all of you that my grandchildren are gonna take our family's name to its highest peak." The way Marcus says his words, it seems to them that Marcus has already decided who will be the next successor of the family. And it almost made everyone have cold sweats especially Marietta.
"D-don't tell me, you called everyone just to announce the next successor?"
