In one of the highest class private hospitals in city L.

Nurses and doctors are bustling around a hospital bed as the heart monitor slowly flat-lined.

Despite trying all they could nothing was happening as the person on the bed finally took her last breath.

Looking into the room all you could see was the nurses and doctors, some had eyes filled with sympathy, some frustration and some indifference - they'd seen too much death already. Then there was a young woman on the bed with a pale yet peaceful face - finally succumb to a peaceful rest.

Yet in the room there was something or rather someone who couldn't be seen, not by the human eye anyway. She had long black hair, a small cute nose, clear eyes and full pink lips. She was a beauty, not one who could cause the downfall of a city but definitely above-average, she wouldn't even lose out to a celebrity. She looked exactly like the young woman on the bed.

"Time of death 11:37am, call the family and tell them of the news" the head doctor told one of the nurses to his left before leaving the room.

"Not that they even care about her, they never even visited her" mumbled a petite nurse with dark brown hair.

The girl with identical looks simply gazed at what used to be her body as a single tear rolled down her cheek as she smiled gently. She slowly began to disappear but she wasn't sad or angry, she learned to let go of those negative emotions years ago.

After her accident she was filled with anger and hatred for the ones who did this to her, although she still hasn't forgiven them, she's no longer filled with anger but regret, regret she let them get away with everything and regret for those decisions she made and the traps she foolishly fell for. She spent the last six or seven years in a ghost-like state, her body laid still in the hospital.

Her state both a blessing and a curse. She couldn't touch or feel anything. Sometimes there are things we pay no attention to until its gone. Most people would say things like food and water or even a person but for Jia Ling it was something even more simple, the beat of her heart, the rising and falling of her chest with each breath, the warmth of the sun or even the caress of a gentle breeze.

However, there was also no pain and she had complete freedom. No family, no schemes, no fake-friends and no evil plots to chain her down. She no longer had the limitations of expectations and had no reason to remain with the two-faced and fake people, the ones who smiled as they laid traps for her, the ones who stabbed her in the back at every chance they had.

She left.

After only a few days of her odd state she left, for the first few months she drifted from place to place, learning new things and discovering the world for what it really was and not what people led her to believe.

She felt pathetic and annoyed when she finally saw the true faces of those around her. What was meant to be a final goodbye turned into a lesson and revelation. She finally saw their true faces.

Without the need to sleep or eat she had a lot of free time. She couldn't do anything physical so she resorted to learning, something she once dreaded but eventually she began to become more curious and eager to try new things. Watching other people she learned to read them without talking to them, she couldn't even if she wanted to, she learned of schemes and secrets.

After 6 months she found she could temporarily inhabit other coma patients body but only for a few months at a time, depending on the body condition. There was one time the other person woke up, she was immediately ejected from the body.

Even with others body she couldn't feel, it was like wearing clothes, you feel the clothes are on you but you don't feel what the clothes feel.

After almost seven years she almost become a different person, no longer the narrow-minded, petty and foolish little girl. Even without a body she still managed to mature into a young woman, though after spending years without someone to talk to she become less talkative.

...

A single tear fell.

After she watched her body stop breathing, she felt a strong force pulling at her . Darkness consumed her and she began to feel as though she was drifting before suddenly another force pulled at her, this one different from the first.

'Thump... Thump... Thump'

She almost jumped up at the both familiar and unfamiliar feeling of her heart beating. For the first time in seven years she could feel again. Her tears began streaming down her face like a waterfall, her eyes filled with pleasant surprise, joy and gratitude.

The warmth of the sun streaming through her window, the softness beneath her feet as they swung off the side of the bed and made contact with the rug, the smell of her room. So many sensations and feelings she had almost completely forgotten about almost overwhelmed her.

"But... How?. I saw my body stop breathing, the nurses and doctors couldn't stop it, so I couldn't have woken up. How is this possible?" she whispered almost inaudibly to herself.

Looking around she found she wasn't in the hospital but in her own room, the room that had been changed and refurbished less than days after her accident. Swiftly turning to grab her mirror, almost stumbling and falling. She finally grabbed it and what she saw shocked her. Her. It was herself but younger, three years before the accident. Her body is currently 17, she still has time to change her future and walk a new path, one she will decide herself. Even if its hard she will continue going forward, walking to a future where she is safe and no one can hurt her. Freedom, Security and peace.

She won't let those snakes get what they want. She will never make those same mistakes she once made. She won't make the mistake of falling in love. Not again.

Like a phoenix. After her death she will rise from the ashes and soar. A new life. Reborn.
