Chapter 569: Mutual Feelings

When Alex next came out, he had two plates full of food, causing Rain's eyes to open wide and her mouth to salivate as the smell entered her nose. "That smells soo~ good!"

Seeing the cheery smile on Rain's face also made Alex smile. He handed her her plate and sat down on the floor next to her, leaning against the chair. Rain looked down at him and remembered what she wanted to ask him. "Alex, where did do you sleep if I am taking the bed?"

"Ah…" Alex was not expecting this question as he scratched his head and answered truthfully. "Well, in case something happens, I was sleeping while leaning against the door. I wanted to be able to act promptly if something happened."

"Oh..." Rain pursed her lips and took a bite of food. The braised three eyed pig practically melted in her mouth, causing her taste buds to yell in excitement. But after that single bite, she put down her fork and said with blushed cheeks: "Then if you are worried, you can just stay in the room."

Alex's hand froze hearing her words, but he still managed to force out an answer: "Alright..."

Rain smiled and continued to eat her food. There was a bittersweet feeling springing up between the two. The two ate silently as they both got lost in their own thoughts. When they were done eating, Alex took their plates and headed back to the kitchen to wash the dishes. When he came back out, he saw Rain staring back at him, holding the book in front of her reading it with a scrunched-up nose once more. She seemed bound and determined to try to understand what was written in the book.

After watching her for a few seconds, he finally asked: "Would you like me to read it to you again?"

"Mmm… But it's late, so we should probably head to the bedroom..." Rain had a feeling if they started reading now that they would once again lose track of time.

Alex felt the same, so he walked over to rain and gently scooped her up into his arms. He looked down at the girl in his arms, who was staring back up at him with her sparkling purple eyes that looked like jewels. There was a long pause before he moved towards the bedroom. He was completely lost in her beautiful eyes. Rain's cheeks were slightly blushed, but she did not wish to look away. For some reason, she felt safe and secure in his arms.

It took Alex almost a minute before he broke out of his daze and blushed slightly. "Ahem… Sorry."

"It's fine..." Rain lowered her head in embarrassment. She was wondering why she felt a little disappointed, as if she was expecting something. She did not understand why she felt this way, but she did.

Alex carried Rain to bed and helped tuck her in. He then went to sit down by the bed, but his hand was grabbed before he could. He looked over at Rain who's cheeks were bright red as she said: "There is plenty of room on the bed..."

"Ah… Ummm… I don't think I should..." Alex couldn't help but feel happy she was willing to trust him. He knew she had no other meaning, but he still felt he should not do such a thing as he had to respect her space.

"But the floor is cold…" Rain felt bad. Although it was embarrassing to have a man sleeping next to her, she still felt bad for taking the only bed and making him sleep on the floor.

Looking into her pure eyes that showed she had no hint of any motives, Alex sighed and relented. He just had to make sure he did not bump into her wounds. "Hold on a second."

Alex left the room, leaving a puzzled Rain lying on the bed only to return a minute later with another blanket and pillow in hand. "I will sleep on top of the blanket you are using and use this one." He felt maybe this was the best way to go about it.

Rain looked at the man in front of her whose ears were burning red for a few seconds before suddenly beginning to laugh. Her laugh was like a soothing melody in Alex's ears. His eyes fixated on her beautiful smile. After calming down, Rain patted the spot next to her, inviting him to the bed.

At first, when he laid down next to her, the situation was awkward, but as soon as he began reading, they once again began chatting away happily. Rain did not even realize she was resting her head on his shoulder as she listened to him read the book in his hands. As one read one listened it was a peaceful and warm scene.

"Do you understand this por..." Alex looked over to see that his arm was being hugged and the girl next to him was sound asleep on his shoulder. Rain had fallen asleep at some point as was clinging on to Alex. Alex saw her peaceful small face and smiled. He reached up and tucked the lock of hair that was out of place behind her ear before gently caressing her cheek. He gazed at her for a long time before finally submitting to the feelings welling up from deep inside him. "If you wished for it, I would protect you forever..." He then took her hand in his and interlocked his fingers with hers before leaning his head against her head and falling asleep.

When morning came, Rain was the first to wake. At first, she was startled by the position she was in, but instead of pulling away, she took in the situation. Although her heart was beating fast, she did not feel the need or want to pull away from Alex. Instead, she found the warmth of his body soothing, making her want to sink into his embrace. She looked down at his big hand that was holding hers and saw how much bigger his hands were compared to hers. Smiling, she closed her eyes and snuggled up next to him a bit more to take in more of his warmth. She had not noticed that Alex had also just woken up as she drifted back off to sleep. When Alex saw how she was not rejecting him, He smiled and laid there, allowing her to sleep as long as she pleased.
