Kana and Ako lay next to each other, rubbing their swollen bellies. They had both eaten a little too much. "Urp! That was very good… But… I think I had too much…" Kana looked over at Ako, whose stomach was just as big to see a bunch of food floating around inside her belly. "How long will that be like that?"
"The food will be digested by tomorrow morning. It will then give me enough energy for the next few days." Ako replied as she poked her belly. " I do not think I have ever had something so tasty in a long time. Roasted meat is heavenly."
"Right! Meat is best!" Kana nodded her head in appreciation. She could understand Ako's feelings well.
Kana stared up at the curtain of leaves above her before her eyes slowly began to close. She had finally filled her belly, and sleepiness had set in, causing her to slip into dreamland. "Kana about the contrac…."
"Shh! She's asleep." The little caterpillar quickly stopped Ako before she woke Kana up. He would have taken this chance to run away if Kana was still hungry, but now he decided to keep his word and bring her to the ancient temple as he had promised. She did not eat him after all. He looked at Ako, who was quietly pouting at the side, and sighed. "You should be happy. This pretty miss, trust you enough to fall asleep in your presence. This means when she wakes up, she will be doing the contract with you."
Ako, who was pouting, heard the little worm's words and instantly cheered up. She looked at Kana and smiled brightly. She never thought a day would come when she would finally not be alone anymore. She scooted closer to Kana and curled up next to her and gazed at Kana's sleeping face, waiting in anticipation for when Kana would wake.
The sounds of demonic beasts could be heard walking through the forest just under the tree Kana was on. It was now morning, and streams of light pierced through the treetops, dimly lighting the tree branch Kana was currently sleeping on. Ako had kept watch all night, making sure no demonic beasts disturbed Kana. She was trying to be as useful as possible, and as she was a divine beast, she had no need to sleep.
Kana's eyes fluttered lightly as she slowly woke up. She sat up and rubbed her sleepy eyes, and looked around in a daze. "Where… Oh yeah… Ako?"
"You're awake?" Ako's voice came from the side. She walked over and sat down next to Kana and began fixing Kana's messy hair.
"Mmm… I hadn't eaten for a few days, so I must have passed out. Sorry. I promised to do the contract after we were done eating." Kana felt bad. She did say they could do the contract once she was done eating, but in the end, she passed out.
"It's fine… I should be thanking you for trusting me enough to actually fall asleep without a contract. That means a lot to me." Ako replied, blushing slightly. She truly felt wanted by such a simple action.
"You came back with food even though you could have run away. You could have even eaten the prey that you caught, but instead, you struggled to bring it back. If that is not someone who is trustworthy, then I do not know what can be considered benign trustworthy." Kana was not saying this based on Ako's actions alone but because Ako herself did not give off a vibe of someone who was scheming. Because of this, with Ako bringing back food and her wanting a contract, she felt she could trust Ako not to harm her.
"She was up all night keeping watch for you as well." The caterpillar decided to help Ako out a bit more. He found the slime to be very likable.
Kana smiled and patted Ako's head. "Thank you. Since there is no time like the present, let's do the contract. What do we need to do?"
"Contracts are simple. Since we are doing a master slave contract, I just need to give you part of my beast soul. Once you merge it with your own soul, we will form a bond where if you die, I will die with you. I will also never be able to go against your words." Ako explained. Each demonic beast had a beast soul. They were no different than a human soul except that some beast souls held the knowledge of their ancestors. Only ancient bloodlines of demonic beasts would have this kind of beast soul. Ako's slime clan was one such ancient bloodline. Although her ancestors were first created by condensed spiritual qi, over time, they had gained a bloodline of their own which formed their beast soul. There were other kinds of contracts as well, but this was the only contract that Ako knew about.
Kana frowned when she heard the harshness of the contract. "Are you sure you wish to do that? I mean. If I die, you will die as well…. Or what if I am some kind of bastard and make you do all kinds of things against your will that goes against your own morals? Ako, I can be your friend, and you can stay with me without this contract if you wish."
Ako looked at Kana, and her bottom lip began to quiver. She couldn't cry, but she could feel sadness and happiness, and right now, she was very happy. "But you're not from this place… If you leave, I will be alone once more… Only by forming a contract will I be able to leave with you."
"How do you know I am not from this realm?" Kana asked curiously.
"Your scent. You do not have the scent of those from this realm. Slimes have seen many like you enter this realm. Some of which had fallen in slime traps and died here. But they all came from outside this place, and we the residents can not leave unless we are contracted with them." Ako replied before bowing her head, pleading: "So please, Kana, please form a contract with me so I can always follow you from this day forward. Just by hearing your concern for me already tells me you would never do those things you talked about. So I have faith that you will not make me do anything against my will. So I ask once more, please form a contract with me."
