Chapter 684 - The Second Test Part 1

Out of around one hundred and fifty people, there were only seventy five left. Just the first test alone cut the numbers down by half. Kana was actually quite surprised by this. She thought things would be much easier for the entrance test, but just the high standards Moon Crest Academy had was amazing. You would need at least an earth root or above to join. Those with a mortal root or lower would have to go home. Sadly spirit roots were not something one could change.

There were also those who failed due to a lack of spirit power. This was something that could be changed by cultivating. Those with spirit roots of the earth level who failed due to their spirit power could wait to test again when they had risen their spirit power by a bit more. And lastly, those who had the wrong bone age. They might have had good spirit roots and spirit power, but they showed up too late trying to pass themselves off as twenty two when they might be twenty three or even one hundred.

Luckily for Kana, her bone age did not show her true age and placed her at eighteen years old. She was well over one hundred and would soon be reaching the next big number up. At some point, she stopped counting the years in fear that she would end up crying at how old she was.

But the next test was different. This tested a cultivator's courage, strength, and mind. It was a test to see just how serious a cultivator was about cultivating. Moon Crest Academy did not wish to keep useless people who would do nothing but sit around all day using resources that could go to someone who was more serious about growing stronger.

That was to say that the next test area stood at the bottom of a cliffside. Kana looked up at the smooth rock face that rose so high that not a single person could easily climb it without using spirit power and tools. She couldn't even see the top as it was hidden beyond a thick layer of clouds.

Elder Ning and Elder Shaun stood in front of everyone with smiles on their faces. "You will have five days. During these five days, you will climb up this cliff and reach the top. Those who are not able to will fail. Also… You will all have your cultivation sealed. You will need to climb this cliff on your own."

"What!? Impossible!" One hopeful disciple yelled out.

"Yes, Elder Ning, this cliff is as smooth as my pick up skills. How can we climb such a rock face?" A young man yelled out.

"Smooth my ass. Your pick up skills couldn't even pick up a toad."

"Shut up!"

"I'd rather date a woman than touch anything that has to do with your pickup skills." A young girl yelled. This was followed by many more jeers from the other females. It seemed he had already tried his pickup skills on some of the girls.

"Silence!" Elder Ning yelled out. He looked over the crowd and only saw four people not paying attention to what was going on. One was even chasing a butterfly. "Ahem…"

Kana, who was in the middle of chasing a butterfly when felt pressure weighing down on her, and a loud voice entering her ears. She turned to see Elder Ning staring at her. She blushed and sat down in the shade. As she did, a butterfly landed on her nose, causing her to smile. She reached up and got the butterfly to climb onto her finger, which she then proceeded to admire. There was also one more person looking at Kana from the other side of the group of disciples. This was Fan Sengya. He seemed to be mesmerized by Kana's smile as he stood there staring at her with a stupid grin on his face and flushed cheeks.

Besides Fan Sengya, there were two other people who did not seem to be worried about the situation. One was a girl with a bow on her back, and last was a man in monk clothing with a large staff. Unlike the others who were whispering to one another, staring at the cliff with pale faces, they seemed to be like a lake's surface with no wind, very calm.

"All of you must know that this is a test that is given every year, and it is to weed out the weak minded. If you can not show us your determination, what is the point of coming to my Moon Crest Academy!? The next one to complain can just go home!" Elder Ning's words effectively shut everyone up.

"You will need to climb this cliff face in five days. That is all. Elder Shaun and I will be watching outside the array. I wish you all good luck." Elder Ning began to fly away when he suddenly stopped and turned back towards the worried looking disciple hopefuls and said: "If you fall from too high up, you will die without any cultivation."

Kana stuck her tongue out at elder Ning. He was playing mind games with the new disciples. As she watched the two elders leave, Kana felt a wave pass through her, and all her cultivation seemed to be sealed off. She didn't seem bothered by this as she walked over to the cliff wall. And looked it up and down. She touched the smooth surface and then bought her hand back and thrust it forward!

*Bam!*

Kana pulled her hand back and looked at the fresh hole she created, and smiled. "Looks easy…" With that, she used her foot to kick another hole for a foothold before jumping up and punching out again. Once she punched a few holes she began climbing.

"Look! Someone is climbing up the wall! Quick use the footholds she created!" Someone yelled out. A group of disciples rushed forward and began fighting with one another to be the first to climb up. But as they fought, something unexpected happened. The holds Kana had created suddenly disappeared. There was nothing but a smooth cliff face.

"What!?"
