Chapter 430: The Past: Intertwined Fates Part 3

As the years passed by, Ar'en did not give up on chasing after Kana. His heart already belonged to her. But each time he did catch up to her, not only did she keep her distance from him, but she was growing stronger and stronger. The one thing Ar'en did not know was that Kana had already fallen in love with him long ago. But she would rather watch from afar than cause the one she loved to be harmed by a woman such as herself that was cursed.

But things changed one day. Fifty years after coming to the demon's domain, a war broke out.  The humans decided to try to invade the land of demons. Although the landscape was mostly desolate, it still held many valuable resources that the humans coveted.

As soon as Kana heard about the war, she headed to the border. She did not want the humans to get their way. Not when the man she loved was the ruler of these lands and truly cared about his people. She did not want to see anything taken away that belonged to Ar'en. So she ran head first into battle.

At first, she was just picking off groups here and there, but as the battle raged on, she realized that the humans had the advantage. Kana floated over the large battlefield and bit her lip as she looked at the scene.  She did not want this war to continue for a moment longer. Innocent people who were just trying to protect their homeland were dying because of people's greed. "I can not allow this to continue." Kana looked around and began picking out the ones in command.

Because of her actions, the orders from the top were no longer getting to the front lines. This threw the enemy into disarray, allowing the demons to regain ground. But her actions infuriated the enemy generals, who were much stronger than the rest. At the same time, in her blind rage, she had killed too deep into the enemy army, leaving her open for attacks.

"It's her! A Nephilim! Kill her! Kill her now!" A loud shout came from the sky. Many power figures suddenly showed up. One of them instantly recognized her distinctive traits. "We can not let her live, or it will be the downfall of us all!"

Hearing these shouts, Kana instantly knew that these people were part of those who killed her clan.  Her ruby red eyes slowly began to turn grey as she rose up into the sky. One old man already reached her and threw out a punch with all his strength. Kana instinctively blocked it, but the man's power was so strong that she felt the bones in her arms break as she flew back like a kite. Her eyes that were turning grey returned to their original ruby red color almost instantly. She was now at a serious disadvantage. She had no choice but to try to flee. Pain surged through her body, but she did not care. Her only thought was to find a way to escape. She knew if the enemy was too strong, it was better to escape so she could live to fight another day. She could not let herself die here.

"Quick! She is trying to get away!" The old man yelled out. He had beads of sweat dripping from his chin. He looked at this hand that was completely useless now and shivered in fear. If he had waited for even a second longer, they would have all been dead.

There were six powerful figures chasing after Kana at this time. She flew as fast as she could, trying to get away. Both her arms were purple and swollen, causing pain to shoot through her body over and over.  She could only grit her teeth and endure the pain. "You will not getaway, you damn fiend! Your kind can not be allowed to live!"

The old man who just yelled waved his hand, sending thousands of fireballs at Kana. Kana's face paled as she tried to dodge the incoming barrage of fireballs. Unfortunately, there were too many, and multiple fireballs slammed into her in sending her crashing into the ground. She landed right in the middle of the battlefield, causing everyone around her to pause their fighting.

The old man who cast the fireballs floated above her and looked down at her with a sneer. "Your race should never have appeared. You are too dangerous to the power balance. If you exist, then a third fact would form, and before long, all sides will be swallowed up by you. Do not blame me for being cruel. Blame the fact that you were born a Nephilim."

Kana was in so much pain she could not even speak. She heard the man's words and wondered why? Why must one suffer just because of the race they were born as? Why must one look down on others? Shouldn't one's fate be decided by how they held themselves? Shouldn't you only be judged by how you treat others?  A tear rolled down her cheek as she realized this was her end. Before she could avenge anything, she was going to die.

"I will now wipe you off the face of this world!" The old man's face was sinister as he created a large fireball and hurled it towards Kana. Kana was already badly hurt and unable to move, so there would be no way for her to dodge this attack. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she closed her eyes. She was going to meet her clan members much sooner than expected. She wondered if they would be mad at her for not avenging them…

"Who dares  to try and hurt her!?" Ar'en's voice boomed across the battlefield. A large magic barrier formed around Kana, causing the massive fireball to explode, destroying and killing all those around it except for Kana.

As the debris and smoke disappeared, Kana's eyes opened wide as she saw the back of a familiar figure. Panic set in as she saw Ar'en standing in front of her. She couldn't move to pull him back, she could only call out in a pained voice: "You fool! Why are you here!? Why did you show up!? It is better for me to die than for you to suffer because of me. I do not want to lose someone I care about again!"
