Abigail stood in the twilight of the afternoon, her eyes wide in disbelief as she watched the fading silhouette of a car in the distance. What happened to the gentleman he was supposed to be?

So, beauty indeed is unpredictable.

Luckily, she was already in the city. Abigail hailed a cab to Sincere Hospital.

By the time she entered the ward, the police had already arrived.

“You have the nerve to show up!” Lincoln Green barked the moment he saw her. Noticing the police behind Abigail, he faltered, “What’s this about?”

“Dad, I heard that Aunt Rose and Ruby were severely injured. We can’t just let the culprit off the hook. We had to call the police.” Abigail declared indignantly.

Lincoln Green was taken aback. He looked at his wife and stepdaughter, then back at his earnest daughter. Could they have misunderstood Abigail?

“These two are the victims, aren’t they? Please describe the situation at the time.” The Green family might not rank in the top ten wealthy families in Gills City, but lately rumors had surfaced about their engagement to the Piers family of Swallow City. Their eldest daughter had even given birth to a son for the sickly son of the Piers family.

Because of her son’s noble status, they had to take the Green family’s case seriously.

The policeman said, pulling out his voice recorder.

“Abigail, what is this…” Rose Taylor looked at Abigail’s unwavering eyes, an unsettling feeling stirred within her. Did this wretched girl have some kind of evidence? Or was she deliberately trying to ruin Ruby’s marriage?

As Rose pondered, Ruby seemed to have come to the same conclusion. A cold glint flickered in her eyes. She was confident that she could deal with a silly fat girl. With a demure look, she reached out and tugged at Lincoln Green’s sleeve, “Dad, let’s just treat this as an accident. Don’t pursue it any further. Abigail didn’t mean to do it.”

Abigail looked at Ruby, “What do you mean, Ruby, I don’t understand.”

“Dad, the gardener Mr. Johnson might really just dislike mum and me. Please don’t make things difficult for Abigail anymore.” As Ruby spoke, large tears rolled down her cheeks, making her look pitifully delicate.

Abigail marveled at Ruby’s acting skills. Why wasn’t she in showbiz?

The policeman who initially came to flatter them suddenly felt anxious and excited. Was he witnessing the legendary family squabbles of the wealthy elite?

But looking at the pitiful Miss Green lying on the bed, could she really have been victimized by this chubby girl?

But if Abigail really attacked her, why would she call the police?

Both policemen, Ben and Mark, stepped aside, their ears perked.

“You have the nerve to pretend you don’t understand. Johnson Harrison has confessed, saying you paid him to take revenge on your aunt and Ruby. They were kind enough not to make a fuss about it, but you took advantage of their kindness and overstepped your boundaries. Policemen, arrest her! She needs a lesson – she doesn’t even know the law.” Lincoln Green, upset by Ruby’s tears, roared at Abigail.

Abigail had long known from her memories that her father always favored the Taylor mother and daughter. The incident today was an eye-opener.

“Isn’t there surveillance at the villa? Dad, why don’t we check the footage to see what happened?” Abigail said to Lincoln Green, but her eyes were fixed on the Taylor mother and daughter.

Unexpectedly, the mother and daughter appeared calm. Ruby in particular, glowed with an icy glare. She thought Abigail was stupid. If they had attacked Abigail last night, why would they leave the surveillance on?

Lincoln Green didn’t notice his wife and stepdaughter behind him. Just growing even angrier, he blurted out, “You know very well that the surveillance was off during that time, and you’re saying this just because you think there’s no evidence against you, right?”

“Officers, take her away.” Lincoln Green said, disappointed. If Abigail was brave enough to admit to her actions, he may at least have admired her courage.

Ben and Mark were stunned, “…”

Could it be so blunt and direct?

“If I had a video…”

“What’s got everyone so heated?” Abigail stood her ground, carefully choosing her words. The unexpected interruption came from a gentle male voice originating behind her.

Sure enough, it was the ‘gentleman’ who had left her on the highway just minutes before.
