The southernmost edges of the north. Even beyond the Evil Dragon Colchis’ nest. This was where the Evil Dragon had initially descended, and also where Kufar had resurrected.

“Um, Kufar, what are we doing in a place like this?”

Three silhouettes were visible there.

One was Kufar. Another was a thin Half-demon man that belonged to the same organization. And another was a two-meter tall humanoid covered in a mantle.

Needless to say, that humanoid was a Devil that they had summoned in disguise. If they did not hide it, there was no knowing when someone might see and antagonize it.

“A place like this?”

“Y-Yeah… I mean, there’s nothing here.”

Kufar responded a little displeased at the Half-demon’s statement, but the man did not seem to have noticed it. While sighing at his insensitiveness, Kufar started to explain.

“There is a ley line running through this place. If we perform the summoning here, we will most likely manage to summon a Devil stronger than any before.”

“Really!? Then let’s hurry up and bring the sacrifi—” (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

“But a Devil that strong might be beyond our control. If only we get destroyed while humanity continues to live on, they would be no point in it. The Half-demons have to grasp the title of the next generation’s ruler.”

“Ah, you’re right.”

If they conducted a summoning here, they could summon something beyond their control, something on the level of the Evil Dragon. If that happened, the first ones to get destroyed would be them, the summoners.

Destroying themselves in order to collapse the world domination by humans would be putting the cart before the horse.

That’s why, they had never attempted summons at this place. Not Kufar’s group, at the very least.

Because this was a land overflowing with so much “power”, Kufar was able to gain intelligence. After predating on other beings here and killing Adventurers that came to subjugate it, Kufar had evolved into something beyond a mere slime.

That was why he returned here.

In order to gain more power after suffering a harsh defeat by Reid’s hands.

“There are no houses around here. And my perception skill doesn’t detect any reactions either. You can remove the disguise.”

“Finally. It’d be pretty depressing if this fellow kept wearing these old rags forever.”

It removed the disguise by the man’s instruction. From underneath, a bald, one-eyed giant revealed itself.

From its rugged shoulders, four limbs, two on each side, were growing out.

“A soldier-class specializing in personal combat huh?”

“Yeah, it’s a Devil called Jarvis. It’s strong and has many arms, so your average Adventurers aren’t its opponents.”

“That’s great. The number of arms aside, it’s good that it’s strong.”

“Huh? Is that so?”

“It’s ideal for me to devour.”

“Hu—”

Just as Kufar said those words, his form dissolved and rushed towards the Devil. Abandoning his human form, he surged over the Devil like a sudden tsunami appearing on the shore.

As the Devil had not received instructions from the summoner, it could not even defend itself and took the attack head-on.

“A-A Slime? When did it substitute Kufar!?”

“Guaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”

The Devil that could neither defend nor attack, tried to tear the Slime off with random hand movements. But each time it tried to do it, the collar around its neck tightened more and more, making it suffer.

That collar was a magic item that punished the bearer if they made movements they were not ordered to.

The summoner man did not realize that it was Kufar who had turned into Slime and just yelled in confusion. Meanwhile, the Devil’s skin started to gradually melt.

Then finally, the man gave it an order to remove Kufar—the Slime.

“Jarvis, get rid of that Slime and crush it underfoot until it’s but a stain on the ground!”

With that proper order, the Devil’s restraints were finally released. Being freed from the frenzy brought about by pain, it started to haphazardly move its four arms.

But the Slime had already covered its entire body. Moreover, its skin was eroded and the flesh underneath was also turning purple, as if being poisoned.

The man could use magic too, but if he attacked the Slime, there was a high chance he would hit the Devil too in the process. He could only stand and watch without managing to get in the way.

Before long, the Devil lost its strength and collapsed on the spot. Its body turned into light particles and disappeared, but the Slime remained. On that puddle of mucus, a semi-transparent face of a human surfaced.

“Ah, that reminds me, you could use magic too, huh? Maybe you can be my food too?”

“W-What are you… Where did you take Kufar!?”

“You still haven’t realized? I’m Kufar. You guys were looking up to a Slime as your leader.” (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

“That…can’t be! To a mere slime!?”

“Well then… I’m digging iiiiiiiin ♪”

Kufar’s maddened voice became the final thing the man heard.

That day, three people that headed to the northern wastelands have returned as one. However, there was no one to witness it.
