Ryzen POV
I really like my routine so far nowadays. It's been a carefree life so far and I've never had any worries. Going to UP Med, then volunteering at La Coron City, then hanging out with Millen Yu's loved ones.
At this point, I could really feel the love she gets from her family and her friends. They're all affectionate and sweet with her, which is like a new experience for me. Along with the red-haired man's notices, I just decided to accept it. Who knows how long this would last, right? After I complete my mission, I may never experience that kind of warmth again.
Besides, I'm also slowly getting closer to Zaynah as Millen Yu. I really wish I could tell her right away that it's me, her sister, but I know the rules wouldn't allow me to. Aside from that, the thought itself is crazy. Who in the world would believe that soul-swapping does exist? With Zaynah's personality, instead of believing me, she might stay away from me instead and lowkey think I'm out of my mind to declare that I'm actually her sister.
Today, after many weeks of not seeing each other, I decided to meet up with Millen's best friend, Juli. Although Millen's family definitely noticed the changed when I occupied her body, they didn't think of it much and were just glad that Millen was finally more "mature".
However, Juli is something different. After all, Millen used to spend more time with her before compared to her own family. Juli knows Millen by her whole heart. I'm glad she's not speaking up about anything suspicious but in my heart, I know she probably finds it a bit strange how Millen have changed from her previous personality.
"You know, I always thought that you'd also work at your dad's company after college. Who knew that you'd actually pursue Medicine, Millen." Juli said while we were walking together in a shopping centre.
My heart quivered a bit. I can fool Millen's family because they were indulge and spoil Millen but outside of them, her friends will really find it out of Millen's personality.
"Hmm. Yeah. Decided to go for it since my course was a pre-med course anyway. It's good to pass some time." I said nonchalantly.
Juli made a thinking expression for a bit before nodding.
"Yeah, that makes sense! Now working at my dad's company, I can feel some kind of pressure already. I should've pursued Masters or something before working. When we were studying, I always wanted to graduate already and now that I'm working, I want to study again and enjoy the student life." Juli sighed.
I giggled a bit. Even though I'm still studying now as Millen, I can definitely relate to her sentiments since in my original life, I've also felt that way. Studying medicine and practicing it are totally different things. If studying medicine was hard, practicing it was a hundred times harder. In actual practice, you just can't rely on textbook knowledge. You would have to use instinct and empathy since you have the responsibility for a person's life.
It's quite a heavy responsibility, I must say.
"But you know, I'm so jealous because you're so matured already. So different from before. It seems like now, you're so goal-oriented and know what to do for the future. As for me, I still want to party all the time and go to festivals even though I know I can't." Juli pouted.
I smiled at her and patted her shoulder a bit.
"It's okay, no rush, you'll figure out what you want and have the motivation to pursue it." I said calmly.
Juli was surprised for a bit before smiling with a cheeky expression.
"See, see! You even say mature things now. Gosh, I really need to step up my game and catch up to you, Millen." she said jokingly.
We enjoyed our stroll in the shopping centre and talked for a bit more before witnessing a grotesque scene near us.
A young boy was playing with a plastic soccer ball that he had. He bounced it and accidentally hit a glass artefact that was hanging above the ceilings. Since the ceiling was quite low, it hit quite hard and shattered the glass artefacts, hitting the ground.
But suddenly, a woman ran to the boy and shielded her own body to protect the boy. The glass artefacts kept on falling and even with the woman's protection, some of the small glass pieces still managed to hit the boy.
On the other hand, the one that took the most damage was definitely the woman. In fact, not only small artefacts were all over her body, but a sharp, glass artefact hit directly into her upper limb, seemingly cutting off her arm.
Even though I was already a doctor in my original life, everytime I see bloody scenes like this, I still couldn't help but have goosebumps.
Everyone in the shopping centre screamed in horror and couldn't even fully look at the scene. It was horrendous and the two people were all covered in blood.
Juli, who was beside me, even reached for my shoulder as an attempt to hide behind me. I noticed that her hands were shaking and along with others, she was the one who had the loudest scream.
After all, as someone who grew up in an aristocrat family, this wouldn't be a usual scene, right? If the original Millen Yu was here right now, she probably would have the same reaction as Juli.
After being dazed for a while, I decided to forcefully calm myself down. As a doctor, I feel like this is my natural responsibility.
I inwardly thanked the Heavens because I had a first-aid kit in my tote bag. Today, my schedule was to meet up with Juli during morning and then go straight away to La Coron City's city hall to accomplish my volunteer activities. Of course, I wouldn't waste a chance to at least have a small interaction with Lennox today.
As said in one theory, when small actions build up, they create a big effect. That's the strategy I'm currently using and I'm somehow confident with it. Anyhow, it's not like there's any other ways since big actions and direct seductions wouldn't work on someone like Lennox.
I ran towards the scene and suddenly, everyone turned their heads towards me.
"Millen, what are you doing!!" Juli suddenly screamed.
I don't have time to explain since there's this scene in front of me. I quickly got the first aid kid out of my tote bag and arranged everything in a fast manner.
"Juli! Call 911! You there, ask for help in this mall's emergency services or something! Everyone, don't just stand there, ask for help!" I shouted not only to Juli, but also to the bystanders who were just standing there.
Since I came to the scene, the bystanders grew even more and were on alert on what I was about to do.
Looking at the woman closely, I can confirm that she has lost her limb. What a pity. The boy she protected has fainted, probably due to too much shock. However, the woman was still conscious.
"My arm... I can't feel my arm... So painful..." she said slowly while in pain, with tears coming out of her eyes.
I gulped as I put a gauze over the glass that cut the limb and slowly, using a technique with the gauze, I took it out. Then, I used a cloth to cover her limb to stop the excess bleeding. Afterwards, using a large plastic bag, I put the cut limb inside.
"It's okay, emergency services will be here soon. Are you in pain anywhere else?" I asked gently.
The woman closed her eyes momentarily and answered, "Hmm... everything hurts. Is my son okay? There... were... also... some... glass... on... his... body.."
After she said that, she fainted right away. I checked her pulse and the boy's pulse and inwardly thanked as they were still breathing normally.
While waiting for the emergency services, I did what I could with the first aid kit and tended to the woman and the boy's injury.
After a long while, the emergency services finally came with an ambulance. I followed them inside and Juli momentarily said that she'll follow.
The nearest hospital within the area was St. Luke's Medical Hospital, which is also the number one hospital in the country. The paramedics wanted to go to a public hospital that was at least an hour drive but I insisted that they go to St. Luke's instead. Memories suddenly flashed within my mind and it looks like Millen Yu's father is also a major shareholder here.
I went along with the paramedics to check in the woman and the boy in the hospital's emergency ward. However, a nurse stopped us and turned into me.
"Wait, in our hospital, we don't accept anyone in the emergency room without any initial deposit. You will need to cooperate with our finance department first." the nurse firmly said.
Damn it! I forgot how rigged the healthcare system is in our country. I get it, it's a private and elite hospital but even the public hospitals are treating patients this way. It's like, there's no place for the common people and the poor. They're always treated so indifferently compared to the elite who get to enjoy all the good things in this country.
I cursed inwardly as I announced in an annoyed tone, "Kenneth Yu, my father, is one of the major stockholders here in this hospital. How do you think he's going to react if me, his daughter, got an emergency service refused just because I didn't make an initial deposit as soon as I got in the hospital?"
After I said that, the nurse widened her eyes and had a tense face. "S-sorry, Ma'am, we will administer it right away."
I bit my lips in order to not say anything more as I observed the nurse lead the paramedics into the emergency room.
It's unfair isn't? If I wasn't with the woman and boy today, they might not even get the emergency services they deserve. But because I am the only daughter of one of the richest man in the country, I get a leeway with everything. I don't have to go through the normal processes that these normal people do.
In this era, the classes are supposedly more equal now but in this country, it doesn't seem to be case. The elites and the rich always have it easier while common people and the poor can never have the equal treatment they deserve.
