Dudley's POV
It has been a roughly a year and half since that day and life has been going on as it usually does with some exceptions. I celebrated my birthday a month and a week ago so I'm currently five as of now.
As you can see from the behaviors of my parents and how they treat me daily, there was no way they were going to celebrate my birthday silently. Due to that reason, there was a lot of fanfare on that day.
It happened during the closing hours of the program, they came to the daycare with a bunch of stuff like cone hats, toy trumpets, candies, ice cream, etc. Honestly, looking at the amount of candy and treats they brought would have make a reasonable person sick of candies and sugar for the rest of their life.
But since the receivers of the candies and treats were kids, there was a lot of clapping and screaming in excitement when they arrived. Everybody at the daycare knew today was my birthday since it was posted on the wall calendar along with the others.
Everything was as normal as a birthday party should be, with the exception of my parents behavior. As annoyed as I was with my parents and the way they handled the party, I know that this moment only came once so I gritted my teeth and enjoyed myself in the celebration as everyone was.
Not to say I wasn't happy that my parents were celebration my fifth birthday. It was just after you keep hearing the phrase happy birthday once every five seconds for the whole damn day, you tend to become very irritable and my parents were not making this any less horrible with their constant bragging and telling everyone who could hear them thrice that it was my birthday.
Naturally, I handled everything with grace and hid my frustrations behind a smile. I also made sure I did not forget about Harry as I was sure Petunia and Vernon would not do anything for him on his day of birth except me if course. I always grab a cupcake from the fridge to give him on his birthday since I could walk. But today, I was not going to forget him.
In fact, I made him join me at the table I was sitting at. The one right in front of everybody and they were cooing about how cute it was that I was taking care of him. Me and him were the first ones to cut the cake together by holding the plastic knife together and cutting it at the celebration even with my parent's mild protest that he should not be there.
After the celebration, we headed home with some well wishes and presents from the daycare since that day was the last time I was attending there since in England, the starting age of school was five years of age.
When we entered the house, I got a surprise gift from my parents and Aunt Marge who sent her gift over from wherever she lived. I got a computer from my parents and different types of toys from Aunt Marge.
I was excited that I got a PC but then I realized that I did not know what to do with it as the internet was not that popular and useful yet. As for the toys, I had a hidden arrangement with Harry that he was to play with the toys I've got so that it would seem like I played with them.
I did not go into dept with him as to why he was allowed to play with the toys. I simply told him to have fun with it.
I've got to say, being five suits me well. I have gotten a little taller and my face looks more 'handsome.' During the time leading to my fifth birthday, I refined my mastery of body magic a little bit more.
I would have liked to see a huge improvement but, since I've no one to teach me this stuff I run into so some complications that should not affect me for a while. Due to that, I've been experimenting a lot. I also continue to improve the method I use.
I have also gotten fatter since I stopped trying to convert fat into magic. While doing that, I made sure to act like a model child in front of my parents. It has worked well since they don't suspect me of knowing magic.
Even if they see me doing weird stuff sometimes, they think it is my eccentricities since I am an acclaimed genius after all.
Have I ever mentioned what the benefits of being a genius is? I get away with a lot of stuff even when I'm in the wrong. 'Oops developing overconfidence. Better crush it.'
So, what had happened was that, a few weeks ago me and this kid got into a fight at the neighborhood 'hey, don't look at me like that. It was fun and was probably for his own good.'
What I did was, I taunted him by call him names 'I know very Dudley like' and started to provoke him. He responded by rushing to tackle me to the ground. But what could he do to me with the type of body he has.
While he was coming, I stood straight up with my hands to my waist like a superhero. I said to him in a condensing tone,
"what can you do with your skinny frame."
I could see that my words got to him because his face grew redder and he stumbled a little. He corrected himself and continue rushing at me. When he finally crashed into me, I moved back a little to minimize the impact of the force charging at me.
I stood there looking like an immovable mountain while he continue trying to tackle me down. After waiting for a while, I slapped him on the back causing him to fall on his face and eat dirt. He looked at me with reddish eyes and said,
"Why are you calling me names?"
I smirked and said, "Because I can"
I continue with, "why did you rush at me when I called you names but you are let the other kids bully."
"Because you insulted my parents and nobody insults my parents!" he said in resolution
"Hoh, you can't even defend yourself, how can you even talk about defending your parents honor?" I asked him in a taunting voice
"I'll find a way"
"Way! Way! you are delusional. If you can't even defeat me, the boss of this neighborhood. How can you defend your parents name anywhere? "
"Wait you are the legendary boss of this neighborhood"
I nodded at that with a smile on my face.
"I thought you were myth. It is said that all the kids in the neighborhood even the older ones fear,,, Never mind one day I will get strong enough to defend their names."
"Good, but before you start think about the future, you should start defending yourself now" I said to him.
If someone where to see this now, they would find it weird that a child was advising another kid.
While we were about talking, an adult came over to see what was happening. She saw the kid who's name I later found out was Pierce on the floor and me standing in front of him. She was about to scream at me but when she saw my face, she asked me,
"Dursley what is going on"
"Nothing, he told me to help bake his face in sand" I answered while pointing at him
Though she could tell that something was wrong, she could not do anything because the kid was
nodding while I was speaking. With that, Iturn around to head home with them watching my back.
As I was walking to the gate, I saw a homeless person sitting in a chair near the front entrance of the park. As I walk by him, I drop a few coin pounds in the bowl by his side like I always do when I see him. And as usual, he thanks me and calls me a nice kid.
