Chapter 59 - [Epilogue-Ark 1]- Morpheus Somnus(6)

KARINA'S POV:-

From a very young age, I was taught how to live as someone from a higher birth, someone who is above others. I was taught how not to get along with commoners or even nobles of the lower hierarchy. My childhood was filled with rules, customs, traditions and education and as I grew up the distance between people who had the potential to be my friend were separated from me as being with them would have hindered my growth.

Born with Ice and Air Mana along with Light Aura, I was unmatched even among my peers. Being a genius from a young age I had always turned out to be better than those around my age. As time passed I grew numb to most of the human emotions. My sole purpose was to live for the Sol Kingdom. In the whole Sol Kingdom, there were only 3 people above me, only 3 people who had the right to stand equal to me. Not even my parents or siblings had the right to talk to me.

There were of course times when I felt jealous of the people who enjoyed their life freely, but with jealousy, there were also irritation and disgust as I saw them wasting their lives over such useless acts.

'This is what separates me from them,' is what I used to think whenever I saw them and compared my life to them. It became clearer to me why I had to stay away from them. The very reason, that I should not bother of those with lower birth than me, became clearer to me. They do not deserve to stand equal to me and they never will be able to get along with someone with status as high as me.

A noble or a commoner who deserves to stand along with me does not exist in this world, they can never get to stand with me. Never. At least that is what I had thought until I saw that 'child' standing there, treating me as if a mere insignificant object.

The World of Visca.

A world where magic decides your future. A world where your potential is decided from the time you enter into this world. Without Mana, you cannot survive in this world. Without Mana, you will be eaten before you can even think of anything. It would be better to die than to live without mana. Whatever I was taught, whatever I had learnt in my entire life as common sense was toppled by that 'child' in a mere few moments.

The first time I saw him was when he entered the city of Eslaine with his companions. The adult looked really strong so it slightly piqued my interest but I didn't have time to look into it so I didn't bother with it. As for the children, I took them as some rich brats who were trying to play adventure. Especially that mana less 'child.' He even looked at me before smiling and turning back to his companions. Earlier, it didn't matter much to me, but when I think about it now, it sends a chill down my spine.

The next time I saw him was the very next day along with Zwain and two other people, an elf and a white-haired human girl. They had a serious expression with a slightly complicated look on it. It piqued my interest again, but still, I didn't follow them. My pride does not allow me to do so. If I was really did needed in that task, Zwain would have surely asked for my help. But since he didn't it must have been something beneath me.

I was proved wrong in the very next few hours when I received the news that Zwain has found out Devils lurking in the city. If I were to be completely honest then the only thing I felt about the Devils was disgust. There isn't any particular reason except the fact that I grew up learning all the atrocities that they did. The fact that they kidnap children for brainwashing and rituals, the fact that they kill people for fun, their mere presence corrodes the environment. Clearly, anyone would be disgusted by them and their accomplices.

There was one thing that was bothering me though, why did Zwain not call for my help? Surely, having a powerhouse like me would have helped him get out of the situation easily. Does he not trust my capabilities? Or he is doubting me?

And soon in the next meeting, my confusion was cleared when,

"Is anyone of you collaborating with...the Devils?"

Zwain doubted everyone, not just the Pixies and the Wood Fairies but even Me. It disgusted me to no end. How can someone of status as high as us will be collaborating with the Devils? But given the seriousness of the situation, I simply cleared his doubts. His expression turned that of a relief before he looked at Aria and Leilena.

It was a waste of time but...I was once again shocked when his doubts turned out to be right about Aria and Leilana. The way Aria escaped and Leilena turned to smoke it was easy to guess which Devil was involved in this mess, Supreme Devil Reflector. His special ability to copy others and clone them to do his bidding was extremely handy for spying and intruding purpose, but when used against you it's a really annoying ability to deal with. You might not even be able to distinguish between friends and foes, you might even lose your ability to trust people.

I asked Zwain what he thinks about the duration for which Reflector could be lurking in this city, at which he made a rough guess and answered a month or more than a month.

I stood up and walked out of that place, I decided to clean this mess up by myself. I won't be able to sleep with the thought that a Devil is lurking somewhere around me. If need be, I will kill each and every person present in this city. It would be a noble sacrifice for the citizens too. At least they would be useful for something.

I soon moved out and started my own investigation. I also sent a report to the Sol Kingdom but it would take a few days before it would reach them. After the disturbance caused by Zwain, it was easy to see from where the problem was arising, the Adventurers Guild. What made it even more complicated was that all the leads were pointing at the Guild master. He is not as strong as me but if added the fact that Supreme Devils were on his side then it made things more complicated.

After looking into it for a few days, I saw Adolphus jumping up directly to the Sacred Tree. Knowing the seriousness of the situation I followed him to stop him...or maybe kill him. I was prepared for a strong one on one battle or maybe a few Supreme Devils along with him but never had I imagined that a Royal Mage from Skapia would also be present there. This made things more complicated.

'It might take more time than I thought,' is what I was thinking that suddenly Adolphus took out a red sphere and threw it down the centre line of the tree and fired strange mana into it. Before I could react

-Boom

A loud explosion occurred that burnt the Sacred tree lighting up the city. That bastard just straight-up burned the whole Tree at once. I used my ice skill to create a permanent platform. The only drawback was that I could not control that ice. The reason that I did not create a temporary one was simple, the fire that was burning the tree was not ordinary. Only Sacred Magic can withstand that. My permanent ice had Light Magic in it. As for the regular Ice Magic I use, I cannot continuously pour Light magic in it for a long duration as it would rapidly exhaust me.

The battle continued for a few minutes before Zwain joined in. His joining, made things easier for me. It was an easy win as Zwain being an Elf can draw infinite mana from nature, fighting him on his turf equals fighting against a King of a Kingdom.

Or at least that's what I had thought before Adolphus' mana started exploding all of a sudden. This made things ridiculous all of a sudden. He used skills that he shouldn't be able to. I even started doubting the situation. Have the Devils developed some sort of way to temporarily enhance their powers?

Things continued on for a few more moments, even Arlington that bastard from Skapia betrayed Adolphus for some reason. But then I heard a sound of a parade marching...

What?? Are my ears playing me? I enhanced my hearing sense and focused on that sound only to find that a parade of Humans and Devils was marching towards the City. Just what is happening around? Why is this getting more ridiculous as it is moving forward?

Zwain shakes his head as he puts his hand on it with a helpless expression as he speaks, "Morpheus, you bastard....just what are you trying to do?"
